  • God damn. Watching this as a kid I never thought years later I would get to fight her in Kingdom Hearts. That dragon has to be one of the most bad ass dragons ever created.

  • and then they got divorced 6 months later

  • Wnen I was little I was one of those kids who liked the bad guys, I was always sad when Maleficent died. Don't know what that says about me! :)

  • Dragon:" hey there! get into my mouth!"

Philip:" *smackes her on the nose*"

Dragon:"grr... Bad Snack! Now i'm engry!! DIE!!!

  • <3 Once apon a dream

  • Disney at its finest for sure!!! =D

  • absolutely incredible, and besutiful for 1959

  • i haven't seen since 1991 thank you kind sir :')

  • I love this ending!!!

  • 0:34 a 5:21

  • Man (prince phillip) must overcomes his ego (...the bad fairy and her demons trickery) to reunite with his heart and soul... and realise *true* love.

  • I love philips face when maleficent turns into a dragon. Its like "Its ok, you can keep her!"

  • @hadomaru I don't get people like you. You can't have a good story or movie without a good villain, and a villain is not a villain unless they are clearly evil.

  • Anyone else think that these classic princess stories were written by necrophiliacs? I mean, kissing the ice cold lips of a corpse-like princess does not exactly appeal to me.

  • I still have the super old VHS from the 70's. It's not exactly widescreen so as a kid I was always trying to see if I can see Maleficent's tail lol

  • Aurora's eyes really are VIOLET. 6:16 I can see them so clearly.

  • Such an intense battle. A little too intense for the younger viewer

  • And that, my friends, is what you show people when they say Disney is for kids. If you really feel like pushing the envelope, try showing them the Hunchback of Notre Dame or Pinocchio

  • @hadomaru Oh man, Hunchback is so great. Frollo's song "Hellfire" is the ultimate most amazing Disney song ever. It gives me chills.

  • I liked the Dragon

  • this is incredible like being at the theatre, all the ambience and noises build up so perfectly to the conclusion, all the instrumentals sounding off the thunder and clash of battle this makes for one of the most beautifully captured styles of animation. A shame that there are not many and current productions that attempt this.

  • What are thos black trees

  • @nkirksey0114 they are meant to be thorn bushes.

  • 4:14 POW!!

  • @nintendoandsega1990 I hate Prince Phillip.

  • @hulleywood56 so do I, why did he marry our Queen???

  • @MartinK303 yeah why? it didn't make sense. from this day forward, phillip shall be burned down. thumbs up if u hate phillip, thankz

  • This video is taking too long to load...I have to be at work by 11am!

  • I think Aurora looked better in blue

  • ok this is by far the most amazing and emotional disney princess movie evr made!!!

    1. the way prince philip fought 2 save auroras life through all of that, i dont remember any other princes doing that.

    2. the fairies were an excellent touch to this masterpiece.

    3. the end when aurora and her parents were reunited was just incredible 2 c

    4. aurora and prince philips love 4 each other is not like any other disney princess couples

    5. it has 2 b the only princess movie thats funny

    6. it scared me!!!

  • Maleficent is in my top 5 Disney villians and I think everyone think the same

  • Blue tbh.

  • maleficant should have started her plan by rubbing of the good fairies.

  • I don't understand why Maleficent was so surprised he got through the thorns, what was she expecting? "Hmm...he got past my guards attacking him with axes, shooting arrows at him, dropping oil on him, and dropping boulders on him...I know what'll stop him! A BUSH!"

  • @SPSFOREVER Well the guards were the guards not her herself haha

  • @SPSFOREVER An EVIL BUSH

  • @SPSFOREVER Maleficent: "so... you defeated my cow?"

  • @SPSFOREVER Well, when I was a kid, I fell into a rose bush, and it took what felt like hours to get out (safetly, at least). I think a giant forest of thorns wouldn't be so easy to get through in real life xD

  • @iwantoldschool CGI can be great when used sparingly and correctly. When it's overused, such was the case in Green Lantern, then it becomes annoying. I don't think getting rid of CGI is the right answer because it's the next step in animation (so long as it doesn't replace traditional animation completely). What we do need are more directors who know how to handle CGI properly.

  • When Maleficent starts to transform into a dragon, Darth Vader's theme music should have played.

  • That's some flamethrower she's got!!!

  • What happened to cartoons? i mean they used to be all innocent like this...

  • @BellesBeauty16 People forgot what cartoons were supposed to be. That's what happened. The last decade we had good cartoons was the 90s. But now, cartoons aren't that fun to watch anymore.

  • @BellesBeauty16 the answer is that adults want to regulate what their kids actually want, & then the market starts to bend, creating another soulless trend again & again. Horrible, let the kids have some goddamn quality & care in their stories I say.

  • Anyone else think Fauna should settle the debate by simply changing the dress to green?

  • @UNLebanon Or maybe they should simply settle for violet.

  • 7:17. Anyone who still thinks digital 3D animation is worthy to tie the shoelaces of traditional animation needs to watch this entire ending, from the death battle of Maleficent to moment 7:17. Watch the movement of the train of Aurora's dress.

Digital animation is an oxymoron and a lie. Send it back to optics, effects and explosions where it belongs.

This, folks -- hand-drawn, hand-painted cels as rendered by the peerless Walt Disney and his crew -- is animation.

  • Merewither reminds me of rosie o'donnell and delta burke but she's voice by Lady from Lady and the Tramp. I'm glad she shut that bird up too.

  • Play this video with the Elderscrolls v them Sons of Skyrim playing, at about 2:08, if you start the Chorus part right when the flame hits Philips shield.. things turn even more epic.

  • @hulleywood1 You don't fuck Phillip, Phillip fucks you!

  • Whenever people say being gay is a choice made later in life, I'm like, "No. I was madly in love with Prince Phillip at age 3 or 4. Both of my parents can attest to this. Good day, sir." The one and only Disney prince I have eyes for.

  • This is my fave Disney princess film and maleficent is tied with the wicked queen from snow white as best villains lol

  • Maleficent is my favorite disney villain. I love how she uses her evil powers. Plus she has the best evil laugh!!!!!

  • Maleficent...damn. You can't really blame Phillip for needing help, guys. Can we say "outclassed?"

  • Maleficent is dead! (Victory grin and thumb).

  • Disney's greatest masterpiece. The animation and music in this film were truly amazing.

  • The remains of Maleficent at the bottom with the sword sticking out always used to puzzle me- is that black and purple splat her cloak? And what is the meaning of the sword turning dark after the zoom in? Whatever it is, it's a brilliant way to show the villain's end and a classic scene (and film) all round :)

  • @cameronboy18 It is a way to show that the sword lost its holy power of love but also sent Maleficent, which symbolises the greatest evil to her/its doom.Maleficent is after all is a female form of the devil, she summons all the powers of hell, she is self proclaimed "Mistress of all evil",she even wears black horns and transforms into dragon, symbol of evil in christianism(Apocalypse)So the sword is actually all that is good.

  • @santoouin--- Thanks! I always loved that bit, when Philip pokes his head over the cliff and there's that dramatic sound and zoom in, kind of makes sense :)

  • Might I remind everyone that this is all due to the mere fact that Maleficent wasn't invited to some little bastard's birthday party.

  • Merryweather is such a badass!

  • THATS a final :D

  • Maleficent saw this video 12 times.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL THE KINGS.

"Oh shit sorry, the wine, bro."

  • Every Man must search for the sleeping Beauty (your SOUL) WITHIN himself. Only when the Prince (Your MIND) has decided to go in search of Sleeping Beauty within yourself does the "Quest" really begin. In order to awaken the Beauty within himself the prince (Your Mind) must overcome all the trials and challenges of life, only when you have slayed your INNER DRAGON (Your Lower animal nature ie Lusts, bad habbits ect) can you awaken the Beauty within yourself and truly become a Man.

  • @SwordOfTheSpirit25 so you are talking about Chivalry?

  • I can just think of Edna Mode goin "No capes!" when he got caught in the thorns xD

  • @LinCat16 "Jingle Bells" when he got in the thorns

  • @LinCat16 Ha ha I know right?

  • @cartooncritic01 My sister and I used to bicker about that when we were young xD Her favourite colour was pink and mine was blue xD

  • dude this is a princess movie, and this scene is totally freacking awesome fucking dragon from hell

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE DISNEY ANIMATED FILM..BECAUSE THE ART IN THIS ONE IS SO GOOD...

  • @swimchick345 Play Kingdom Hearts and you will!

  • so now there's the tough question that must be answered: pink or blue?

  • Disney said hell?

  • @davidanderson49 Lol, back then it was okay to say as long as it was a religious reference and not swearing.

  • Prince Phillip is so hot. First guy I ever crushed on as a kid.

  • if i had to fight a giant malificent dragon that big i would piss myself...

  • omg i remember watching this so many freaking times as a kid i miss watching disney movies all the time it was such a fun age but i never realized that :(

  • anyone notice that the Prince accomplishes NOTHING on his own?

the fairies are responsible even for his killing of the dragon! (he doesn't even have to aim well since they enchant it to "fly swift and sure")

  • @journeyman2mage Yup he doesn't prove anything hahah

  • Comment removed

  • You know, seeing those faires flying along side the prince makes me wonder if this is where Nintendo got the insperation for the Legend of Zelda

I could vision Maleficent as a man... but Ganondof would make a very ugly woman XP

  • The final dance scene in Beauty and the Beast is the same as this dance scene! The things you find out from imdb!

  • Really? "Doug Walker sent me"? How have people not heard of this sequence prior to his review for Sleeping Beauty? And even if they had, they pick now of all times to discuss it? This scene deserved that respect long before Mr. Critic came along and talked about it, so don't come praising it now because he told you to.

  • Seems like Malificent went to alot of trouble just to get revenge for not being invited to a party, just saying...

  • I LOVE Prince Philip.

    Seriously.

He makes every other disney prince look like crap XD <33

His smile...oh my goodness. Such a hot prince hahaha.

  • @KJaishiteru96 i want him

  • @KJaishiteru96

He is more proactive than all the other princes

  • the St. George allegory aaaah so well done god bless the old disney good times. Frog Princess was the last great movie and we all know Lion King is the greatest

  • So much childhood memories!

  • "And all the powers of HELL!"

    Shit just got REAL.

  • spanish dubbing is better xd

  • This has to be one of the best climaxes in Disney history. Everything just oozes epic here. Maleficent is awesome, the prince actually gets to kick some ass, the animation is great and the backdrop music (from Tchaikovsky's ballet) is just amazing. It's just epic! :D

  • OMG Philip is Dragon Born!

Nah, but still this is my favorite scene in any disney movie.

  • I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took a spinning needle to the finger.

  • why aren't men like prince phillip out there?

  • Comment removed

  • @marilou1695 We're still around. Really...

  • @NAMEMEPLEASE it's good to know that there is at least someone who would be willing to fight a dragon for the one he loves..

  • It has to be the most impressive battle Disney has ever done. The amazing thing about it is this was done in 1959 and all hand-drawn. Today's CGI can never compare to this mastery of animation.

  • Comment removed

  • Doug Walker sent me here!

  • i wouldnt want to be by her when she sneezes... or coughs... or pukes.. bottom line i wouldnt want to be by her when shes sick. but i love maleficent

  • After Snow White and Cinderella, it's great that the prince FINALLY gets something to do!

  • Maleficent: haha I'm a dragon now you will never top me!!

(Prince laughing) Maleficent: why are you laughing whats so funny!!!

Prince: you mean no one ever told you?

    Maleficent: told me what?

    Prince: I'm a dragonborn.

    Maleficent: Oh Shi....!!

    Prince: FUS ROH DAH!!!!!!

  • Love it how the dragon mouth sound effects were used in the Rescuers for the two alligators

  • @Ducttapestuff And the crocodile in Peter Pan! :)

  • Tchaikovsky, one of the best composer in the world...

  • @TeenGemini01 hahah this reminds me so much of legend of zelda: LINK! i mean cmon...the sword that can kill a dragon (master sword), an evil wizard turns into a monster (ganon becomes ganondorf), and has faires to help him (navi fairy)! He also rides a horse like Epona in the game!! Oh yeah, he rescues a princess usual XD

  • @TeenGemini01 forgot to mention that he alone was fighting a 100 foot dragon!! which is pure warrior man :D

  • The original Green Pigs!!! ^.^ Where are the Angry Birds when you need them?! xD

  • I wish I could sleep standing up like all those people.

  • now absorb the dragon soul

  • Thank you for being the only person who has a video of this in English without it being a cross over with other Disney films.

  • wait what?

    4:00 phillip charges maleficent

4:04 phillip is knocked off his horse, horse runs past him towards dragon

4:05 bridge is empty, no horse

    4:08 bridge is destroyed

4:14 horse is stuck in thorns behind phillip, on other side of the bridge...?

    horse uses teleport hacks

  • IT WAS PINK!

  • My brother and I like what Phillip does to Malificent at 4:14. XD

  • 4:35

I am so getting a Skyrim vibe right now

  • If it were Link at 3:50, he'd be all "....challenge accepted"

  • I love it how the "mistress of all evil" uses a sparkly catherine wheel to transport herself :P couldn't do something a little bit more evil :D

  • you know.. ive always been wondering but, isnt the kiss scene somewhat necrophiliac?

  • @Graverobber94 Aurora wasn't dead, she was asleep.

  • @theeGLAMstarr09 yeah thats why i said "somewhat". really.. do you really kiss someone while they sleep? it sounds kinda wrong

  • Because of the Nostalgia Critic, I over-think on the movies growing up as a child.

1.) If the three good fairies could help Prince Phillip escape, why didn't they help him fight against Maleficient?

2.) Maleficent's technically isn't really dead because of Phillip's sword infected with the darkness. Unless if someone touches it, the darkness could affect that person. Was Maleficent human?

3.) Disney is just going to let go that Prince Phillip just kissed a dead corpse. Necrophilia anyone?

  • @jsteffey88 i dont think kissing aurora as necrophilia.. sence it was just a kiss to bring her back to life. And same goes for Snow white.. the only slight difference was that the prince that kissed snow white didnt know she would come back to life. . i always saw it more as a goodbye. its still not gross sence it wasnt like either princes had sex with the dead princesses.

  • @Belindagirl13 true, disney left that for the original stories

  • @jsteffey88 As opposed to all those live corpses?

  • @kyris0 I don't know what you mean by "live corpses", but dead is dead. No hard feelings. I'm just saying I'm making a few points here about the final battle scene in Sleeping Beauty. It's Disney, I know, what do you expect. Again, because of the Nostalgia Critic (not that he's a bad person or anything) I can't stop thinking too realistically about the movies I've grown up with. Speaking of Maleficent, I don't get why Tim Burton is making a whole all about her. What else is there to tell?

  • @jsteffey88 1) Some have said it's because it shows that Philip is willing to go up against the ultimate evil for true love.

    2) What legend did you hear that from? Whatever other story you've read that from doesn't mean that it'll apply here.

    3) Aurora isn't even dead...

    4) Kyris0 said live corpse because you said "dead corpse". Which is basically a double negative.

  • @GhostPirate6 It's fine if Prince Phillip goes on a one-man-army for true love. It's just just the three "good" fairies were temporarily helping him. There was no legend out of Sleeping Beauty that made me think that Maleficent was someone else. Again, I said earlier because of the Nostalgia Critic, his views and opinions on films made me think of the movies I grew up with in a different way. Aurora is so dead. Didn't you see her skin from green to normal in the end. Corpse.

  • @jsteffey88 If you rewatch the scene where the faries put the whole kingdom to sleep, the entire place is bathed in green. They return to their bright colors when Aurora is awakened. And also if you remember earlier in the film, Merryweather weakened Maleficent's deadly curse into a magical ageless sleep. So she's not dead.

  • @GhostPirate6 Over-thinking movies has it's points as well as its undeserving points. However, one thing I know about colors (most people as well) is that the colors: black and green, mostly in children's animated films, represents evil or death. That's why I thought they put them in some kind of lifeless kind of sleep. Then again, it's Disney; what do you expect. Again, I don't hate Sleeping Beauty; I just over-think on movies growing up as a kid thanks to the Nostalgia Critic.

  • @jsteffey88 Which is unfortunate seeing as Fauna is far from evil.

I usually associate green with vomit.

  • @GhostPirate6 That's your opinion, of course. But, seriously, I'm talking about colors and it's special meaning to audiences in movies. Black and green usually represents evil or death, which is why I thought Aurora is in a temporary lifeless sleep. Possibly the same for the kingdom.

  • I think Maleficent and Cruella de Vil are sisters. See the family resemblance?

  • Malefecent is the wicked stepmother in Cinderella and

    Flora is the Fairy Godmother

  • The raven is ANNOYING!!!

  • Why does Maleficent... remind me of... Endora?

  • Maleficent is my favorite villain of the good old movies aside from the Queen from Snow White. Sad thing is she doesn't know how to pick henchmen.

  • the evil woman sounds like the voice of the evil step mom in cinderella.

    kinda looks like her too

  • @MusicIsMe1444 They were played by the same voice actress

  • :| is that the prince's dad off of cinderella?

  • 3:50

    "Holy shit!" moment

  • You guys gotta give Philip credit.....taking on a sorceress that turns into a hellfire breathing dragon like that. Takes balls of steel....

  • hes the most badass prince charming in all of princess disney films :DD

  • the blue fairy is susan boyle! xD

  • haha omg, when I was little I always laughed about the blue one at 1:30. Now I see this.. I did the same thing xD! <3

  • Pretty good movie. Too bad the prince and princess were barely even characters. The supporting cast and the witch were more interesting. XD

  • @Starbat88 The good faeries are totally the heroes of this movie.. but I love it.

  • I adore how they used Tchaikovsky's original music for the orchestral settings and revolved the songs around them (with some creative licence, of course...)

  • I LOOOOVE her locomotion at 3:28 . researcher should invent this instead of beaming cause this would be much tasty :P

  • The simple use of laight and shadow in this scene is just stunning...between Phillip looking up in fear at the dragon (3:50) and the Sword of Light turning pitch black after slaying Malificent (5:15)...the color, the sound...so classic.

  • Whatever else one has to say about Disney, old disney sure knew how to write Faeries. Both the good fairies and Maleficent (who, in the swedish dubb, is reffered to as "Den onda feen" AKA The wicked fairiy) treat all kinds of logic like their henpecked husband with little regard to the consequences for the humans involved.

Even Tinkerbell, who´s the straighest use of the modern fairy ever produced, was vain and jealous to the point of trying to kill Wendy.

  • I looove that dramativ music from 01:54

  • the fairies did all the damn hard work...

  • 4:07 holy crap those green flames are potent, it can melt through stone :O

  • YAY Phillip!

  • [Maleficient visits Minion Recruiting Ltd]

"... I might add though, Ms Maleficient, that although these goblin minions are fairly good in archery and operating castle lair defense systems, they are terrible at hand to hand combat - small size, lack dicipline of our finer minion products, screaming like bloody lunatics and has a habit of THROWING the weapons instead of swinging them. Terrible choice, really"

    "But they are cheap, right?"

    "Well, yes..."

    "Good, I will take them"

  • maybe she shouldve put something there that couldnt be chopped

  • Is it just me or is Aurora's hair color dustier in 6:09 than in 7:45????

  • Disney really needs to make a good old fairytale again. I was so excited when they announced a Rapunzel movie - and while Tangled was entertaining, and the visuals were beautiful...it wasn't magical like this.

  • Really, this movie could have been awesome! But the reason I didn't liked this movie was its slow-paced climax and zero-personaltied AURORA!!

Please don't take this negatively because the deficiency of this movie was fulfilled in THE LITTLE MERMAID!!

  • wow, more than 50 years old and this is still such a wonderful scene to watch :) new stuff just can't compare.

  • "Now shall you deal with me, oh Prince, and all the powers of hell!"

Disney Execs: "So, how are we going to top this?"

"Beata Maria, you know I am a righteous man..."

  • @TheWiseGuy784 Also 4:57 you see blood.

Disney just ain't the same anymore...

  • @TheWiseGuy784 I'm sorry, mate, but even that song is not going to top that line. It comes close, I grant you, but still falls short.
