  • What is this song called?

  • avatar meets narnia

  • FUS RU DAH! @ 1:10 !

  • who is the artist of the soundtrack in the trailer?

  • @LiberatedSpaceMonkey peter gabriel sings this song! "my body is a cage" great artist, i tell you!!!

  • @PrincessAmelica a cover of Arcade Fire

  • He-man knock off.. Why don't they make a Masters of the Universe movie again, but then better..

  • @illwillcruz Knock off? This book was written almost 100 years ago by Edgar Rice Burroughs who also wrote the original Tarzan. So this came first

  • Prince of Persia from Outer Space

  • @ANSYS754 While the language may be dated, I suggest reading the books for better... enlightenment.

  • @SpotterOz I was just kidding, never had any intention of profaning the work of Edgar Rice Burroughs

  • @Geeking yea, maybe you are right, Dune is too complex to become a movie, i will try to see that miniserie however. Is it the one where the spice-coloured eyes are shining and almost glow in the dark?

  • Pleeaaase make a movie about Starcraft and Dune!!

  • @juker92 ...there have been 2 efforts to present Dune. The 1st was in 1984; "Dune" directed by David Lynch...HORRIBLE, please don't see it. The 2nd was a 3-part miniseries written and directed by John Harrison (2000): "Frank Herbert's Dune"...much better, more faithful to the novel expect Princess Irulan had a bigger part than in the source material. Not certain a single movie can do Dune justice (such rich detail), it would have to be a series of movies

  • this has been my fav trailer! due to the music

  • You might also like "Glyphics"

  • Thumbs up if u heard this song in "House"..

  • meh

  • jak się nazywa ta piosenka?

  • @geekeing Why terraform a useless planet though.

  • @chiffmonkey ...if you are referring to Mars..by what criteria is it a useless planet?

  • @lenanana8 Clearly you forgot titan then. Also I seem to remember something about mars becoming habitable as the sun expands. But the point is this is sci-fi. Where you take a basic improbable assumption and build on it logically. The Mass Effect lore would be a good example, it's all based on a non-existant element.

  • @chiffmonkey ...yes, Titan does have a fully developed atmosphere but with a surface temperature about −290 °F (94K), an atmosphere composed of methane (1.4%), hydrogen (0.1%, nitrogen (98.4%) and 0.1% traces of other hydrocarbons terraforming doesn't appear to be practical. As lenanana8 said Mars is a more probable

  • @pharroahogreece actually yes it does take place upon mars or how the natives would say it "Barsoom"...... this series of books was written WELL over 100 years ago..... there are 11 in all...

  • This trailer is actually better than the second one

  • Does anyone know who's song they've used on the trailer? I would really like to know but can't find it anywhere...

  • Its not Mars, stupid.

  • @pharroahofgreece ...yes, it is Mars. The 11 novel Barsoom series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs all take place on Mars.

  • Ummmm... did they happen to forget that there is no breathable atmosphere for humans on Mars and therefore a man would not be able to walk on Mars without a spacesuit and oxygen supply???? Stupid....

  • @lenanana8 You do realize that it’s just a movie, it’s fictional, right? Or are you like, I don’t know, stupid….?

  • @TheSaupstad I'm not stupid, I'm an astrophysicist. I haven't seen the movie so I'm not criticizing the plot or anything. All I'm pointing out is a real astrophysical fact that some might notice about this movie. Just saying that most directors, esp. sci-fi movies tend to incorrectly use scientific facts. A classic example is The Day After Tomorrow - those storms that have super cooling effects defy fluid mechanics.

But I'm sure that this movie will be interesting!

  • @lenanana8 Sorry, it's just that your comment sounded a little stupid when I read it out loud and my friends agreed, but I'm backing off if you know a great deal about because I know nada.

  • @TheSaupstad ...you're right. lenanana8's comment was stupid. Stupid because this "astrophysicist" didn't use critical thinking skills or did research before commenting. Both useful skills for anyone, but mandatory skills for a scientist. And giving the benefit of doubt, this "astrophysicist" may know science facts, but doesn't know science fiction. This "scientist" doesn't know the Barsoom series? The literary grandfather of modern sci-fi writings and movies?

  • @geekeing Hi. I'm studying astrophysics btw. And I didn't mean anything mean by my comment, I was just confused because these kinds of movies just assume people know these things. And I am a fan of science fiction, who isn't!! I say things not to criticize but simply because I just want to know, and I accept that there are people out there who know way more than me. For that reason, I really want to learn from others.

Sorry if I have offended you or anyone with my "science" comment.

  • @lenanana8....Hi, thank you for your response. No worries, was not offended just disappointed. You commented without using your critical thinking/research skills. A Class-M condition for Mars would appear improbable but if you had, at least, accessed Wikipedia that would have told you the basis of this movie and the Barsoom series. BTW I agree with you about "The Day after Tomorrow" the plot devices for that movie are completely absurd.

    Success in all you undertake

  • @lenanana8 ....I see you are unfamiliar with the Barsoom series. In Edgar Rice Burroughs writings (inspired by the fanciful ideas of Percival Lowell) when the Terran John Carter arrives on Barsoom (Mars) it was in the final stages of a dying planet. It's breathable atmosphere was artificially maintained by a "atmosphere plant" designed and built the ancestors of the Red Martians.

  • @geekeing Oh alright! That sounds cool!!

  • @lenanana8 Have you never heard of the concept of 'terraforming'?

  • @chiffmonkey I have, actually. But not extensively... Mars is the most logical candidate I think.

  • What's the song?

  • I can hardly wait.

  • Can't wait. I was weaned on Edgar Rice Burroughs.

  • Looks like shit to me, I don't care how old the story is. It looks like a stupid story.

  • @lm108 Do me a favor adn give it a chance! I can garuntee it will be worth seeing!

  • Comment removed

  • don't look bad at all except for tars tarkus' benign appearance.

  • Star Wars meets Avatar meets Planet Hulk?

  • @Kotlettbengt ...actually it's more like Star Wars, Avatar and Planet Hulk are the literary grandchildren of the Barsoom series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs almost a 100 years ago.

  • @CorleytheCantelope ..the author is Edgar Rice Burroughs (best known for the Tarzan writings). Since the first writing of the Barsoom series was in 1912, the entire 11 novel Barsoom series is regarded as the literary ancestor of all modern sci-fi stories and movies, including Star Wars and Avatar.

  • Im optimistic, but the drop heigh for this movie sure is colossal

  • This kind of reminds me of a mix between Avatar and Prince of Persia.

  • @TheDrinkjuice you didnt read teh top comments, or you did and you are trolling!

  • @Ralokone I did read them. I know John Carter was made way before Avatar and Prince of Persia even came out. I was just saying that this movie kind of reminds me of those two films.

  • can someone tell me the name of the song?

  • @MultiHellios I'ts called "My Body Is A Cage". This versions is performed by Peter Gabriel but the original is done by Arcade Fire if I'm not mistaken.

  • Classic American going somewhere that doesn't need them

  • @trix2705 ...if you knew the background details (which you obviously don't) then you would know John Carter didn't choose to go to Barsoom, he just found himself there.

  • @CorleytheCantelope

Edgar Rice Burroughs, started in 1912 or so with the Barsoom books. He also wrote Tarzan. He helped inspire the golden age of scifi along with the lesser, more modern attempts like Avatar.

  • It's an alien planet....Is there air?

  • @screenwriterjohn is there a reason there shouldnt be? are you assuming all the air in the universe is on earth?

  • @Ralokone "Galaxy Quest" quote. They actually don't address that on many scifi shows. They just omit it. But only a handful of planets have breathable oxygen.

  • @screenwriterjohn we wont know until we are out there, and yeah . . . I figured that out after I commented > _ <

In burroughs books all worlds followed natural laws . . . like earth was teh default, including human life . . . I think the reason the books resonated and lasted so long was teh fact taht mars is so strikingly close to its real world counterpart! red from a distance, yellow up close, covered in wastelands, a dying world

you can see where other mars books failed

  • @screenwriterjohn ...Edgar Rice Burroughs provides a reason why Barsoom (Mars) has a Terran compatible atmosphere, which is rather ingenious considering he wrote the first John Carter novel in 1917: an Atmosphere factory which maintained the thinning air supply.

  • tim riggins...

  • @CorleytheCantelope Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the books, the story takes place after the civil war, and before world war 1

  • Frank Frazetta did a ton of art work for the Barsoom books. Nothing compares to his work. Im worried this movie is going to be a watered down bastardized milquetoast interpretation of one of the best sci fi series ever written.

  • @tavish68 Frazettas work was complete crap, well drawn, but complete crap! He didnt follow any of the rules of the book, his great white apes are black, his dejah thoris is fat, and the artwork you remember of John Carter standing triumphantly over a dead thark with sword in handd didnt really happen in teh book

it is going to be bastardized, but watered down probably not, as amazing as burroughs was . .. he was pulp . . . which means deeper levels are scarce to be found!

  • This movie looked good up until... Ugh nevermind

  • Dejah Thoris has too much clothes on for martian society. Type her name in google images to see what she is suppose to look like.

  • @Freax84 ...quite right. Point of fact EVERYONE on Barsoom is overdressed. They should all be wearing jewelry and leather harnesses for holding weapons or supplies. Of course there is protective clothing for the polar religions but otherwise near-nudity was the norm in the novels.

  • thumbs up if you clicked on this thinking it was star wars.

  • Tim. Riggins. :)

  • Well, their world is dying and they are on Mars...so I guess we know how it ends. lol just kidding. The books are awesome.

  • I've read the comments, I can see that the movie is based off a story that was written a long long time ago. BUT. I will say that in terms of quality of acting, and direction, the movie looks like it will be another Cowboys and Aliens. But it may be one of those movies that surprises us and may actually have good editing, good direction, good acting, etc.

  • Unfotuantly people... Disney has not been promoting the fact that it is based off a 100 year old (yet still incredible) series of books. Also they kepp leaving out the fact it is based on a story by the Creator of Trazan.

Disney's marketing department is dropping the ball all over the place with this move. So much potential and marketing is making it look like the knockoffs every one is complaining about.

  • @cfirpi Disney is a corporate conglomerate parasite. You can tell the marketing alone has SUITS written all over it with "Disney's John Carter" title....Not Edger Rice Burroughs JOHN CARTER.

  • 29 people do not realize that this story was written LONG before Avatar, Prince of Persia (or whatever it's called), Star Wars and Cowboys & Aliens. All I can say is do your f***ing research before b**ching about a movie.

  • @nineteennintytwo ...and that is exactly whats wrong with this planet. People open up there mouths before they open up there minds.

  • @nineteennintytwo dont hate prince of persia, it has an amazing story completely unrelated this

  • @SantaBantaVEVO I don't hate it. I'm just a little annoyed at people for thinking this film ripped it off.

  • @nineteennintytwo this is what all sci fi is about, i do hope disney make their sequals, clearly they take the effort to make these amazing movies but fail to make it an awesome franchise, i am waiting for tron legacy & prince of persia sequals

  • Isn't that an Arcade Fire song playing in the background? Anyway, looks like its going to be a nice movie.

  • That sounds like it will be good

  • John Carter...neat. Now it's time to try Lovecraft...and good luck with that!!!

  • anybody know the song from 0.31-0.51 ?

  • @xConnolly97x my body is a cage peter gabriel

  • the main character (john carter) reminds me alot of the prince of persia from the original games

  • My dad was excited when he saw the trailer when we went to see Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and War Horse. At first I was like (ಠ_ಠ) <(Y u so excited?) He told me, and I really wanted to read the books. He even has them. Started reading them 4 days ago, and I just finished Thuvia, Maid of Mars. ^(O0O)^ <(THEY ARE AWESOME! READ THE BOOKS!)

  • I bought the John Carter books last week and read A Princess of Mars in 2 days; it was awesome! I hope the movie is decent, some details in the trailer bugs me.

  • @LeeAnnOfAlderaan how many did you get cos there is eleven books in total.

  • @adsasfd I think it's the first 5 books.

  • From the creators of Tarzan.

Hey didn't Marvel comics make a comic book series based on John Carter of mars? Disney has the full rights to the series then.

  • I loved the books, this film better be fucking good. If it isnt I'll just pretend it never existed. Its chances arent looking good, I struggle to think of any disney film I actually like.

  • @TH3R34LD3aL I struggle to think of any disney film I COMPLETELY hated, sure i can think of alot I hated, but they at at least had one moment to them . . .

If this movie is bad, I am going to pretend its not XD

  • John Carter gets his first glimpse of Dejah Thoris

...She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied

her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely

naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect

    and symmetrical figure."

Ok, so I realise that it is a Walt Disney movie, but will Lynn Collins get her kit off?

  • @oarfrost why do you care? it wasnt integral to the novel!

Burroughs did not create this aspects for the purposes of sexual perversion, but insisting it should be this way is indicative of perversion on your part

that is to say, you are disgracing burroughs by caring

  • @Ralokone "it wasnt integral to the novel!"

Of course it bloody well was.

Jesus, what a headdick. He probably gets his rocks off on Bambi

  • @oarfrost No it wasnt, it was only brought up enough to remind us what the martians looked like

It wasnt a perversion, it was just an aspect of martian culture that was minor

  • @Ralokone "it was just an aspect of martian culture that was minor"

You reckon Lynn Collins running around in the altogether is a minor matter? Tell me, have you ever thought that maybe you need a little more protein in your diet?

  • whats the song playing?

  • The actor that plays John Carter is from Kelowna, B.C.

  • Avatar a great movie??? It was cliche ridden crap without an original thought in it at all. Not only that it was filed with naive climate change and green propaganda that only a hippie or a fool would swallow. The book for this movie was written almost 100 years ago - I so hate ignorance!

  • @ideaphile Originality is not synonymous with quality you know!

Avatar was not a great movie, it was a Decent movie that really steered off in the wrong direction and should have focused more on the seperation beetween the navi and humanity.

The navi by default have a psychic connection to their planet, they literally cannot understand or conceptualize living without it, humans are a huge enigma to the Na'vi . . . a void . .

if they had focused on that, it would have been better

  • Agreed ChrisMc staggering foolishness on display here. Sadly however such is the nature of many these days - largely illiterate and devoid of knowledge about most things beyond reality TV and celebrity gossip. Looking forward to this rendition of "A Princess of Mars" which was the first of 10 Barsoomian (Martian) novels written by the author of Tarzan - Edgar Rice Burroughs.

  • Gambit !!!

  • Bunch of ignorant idiots on here. Do your research before spatting out all of this garbage about the movie. It's not trying to be avatar or anything else. It's based off a fucking series of books written almost 100 years ago. Get your shit straight before speaking.

  • @ChrisMcC7692 apparently the martians in John Carter of Mars, also are the ones in war of the worlds which. John Carter also has appeared in Dc comics and a bunch of other things.

  • @T1N0pwnzy0u1 no, John Carters martians are incredibly different from the war of the worlds martians

  • @Ralokone okay, cuz i read that somewhere. I know that the martians in War of The Worlds come in big metal walking thaings

  • Comment removed

  • Just re-read the first 5 books last week. Can't wait to see the movie even if they mess up the story line a bit. The books are very action packed, well suited fo modern hollywood movies.

  • Just saw this commercial on tv literally right now . thought it was a joke for the first 10 seconds hahahaha

  • @baseballfreak989 Why? Are you just an asshole?

  • @Ralokone I'm not following your logic... I don't see how me thinking the movie trailer possibly being a "joke commercial" makes me an asshole. People who accuse other people of being an asshole for no reason however, are assholes

  • @baseballfreak989 Nah, he called you an asshole for a pretty good reason. You rushed to conclusions about a movie you know nothing about. Especially a movie based on a series of books that basically shaped modern day science fiction.

  • @darkfire532 Yes me simply WONDERING if the commercial was fake because I never heard about the series makes me an asshole. Great logic. Fucking dumbass

  • @baseballfreak989 Read my comment again, and this time actually think about it. People aren't calling you an asshole for simply not knowing the series. They're calling you an asshole for rushing to conclusions like an ignorant thick-browed neanderthal. But let's not get into an internet cock-contest. Get the last word in if you want, whatever makes you feel like "the winner"

  • @darkfire532 What u still fail to understand is tht I wasn't rushing 2 conclusions, I just didn't know anything abt the series. Upon first glance I thought it was a little out there, but u fanboys get so defensive about everything so when somebody says one thing that isn't considered positive about your precious >insert any fanboy obsession here<, the slightest remark is considered absolute blasphemy to you. And now ur trying to pretend u wont read this but u will and u'll respond

  • Of course the hidden sub plot is, John Carter aka, Jesus Christ. a savior myth on top of a savior myth LOL

  • @MrPredict2010 it's like a dream within a dream!

  • @MrPredict2010 There are some people that think that Edgar Rice burroughs wrote that intentionally into the original books, but Edgar Rice Burroughs was always heavily critical of religion and it wasnt quite clear based on his writings what he believed.

The Mastermind of Mars outlines two extremist societies one of scientific and logical advancement and the other religious both of which are hellholes!

  • What is this Prince of Persia XP

  • The song is a cover of Arcade Fire's My body is a cage. This version is done by Peter Gabriel.

  • My Body is a Cage, Peter Gabriel

  • @TheAzokuu Thanks!

  • What's the song name to this trailer?

  • Also, where's Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) Whit companion's lol :P

  • Conan-jedi in a cowboy town on Tatooine.

  • @sprite0nation Human on earth, in a town on earth, wearing a hat on earth

  • Here's hoping that its good and that they make "Master mind of Mars", and "Warlord of Mars".

  • @5474n Chessmen of Mars would be good. Human chess in a coliseum to the death? Epic.

  • @5474n I want them to make an animated trilogy out of Mastermind, Synthetic, and Giant

Gian would be a sort of tongue in cheek parody though

  • Why are so many characters in films, called John? There are millions of names in the world, but why the fuck John?

  • @Geoff900 Why don't you pick up a book.

  • @Freax84 @Geoff900 is too stupid to read let alone to look stuff up.

  • i don't get why people gave this trailer so much shit, i think it's way better than the second one, more of a sense of wonder and mystery her as opposed to just showing off everything action beat.

  • It looks good.

  • everythings a copy of something to say this is similar to avatar is ignorant when avatar is a carbon copy of dances with wolves just set on another planet. get some knowledge people dont need to over react about who copied who everything these days is remakes from th past or inspired from the past. hollywoods run out of ideas and originality. Ps. Avatar sucks!

  • I didnt see any 12 feet tall green people!!!!

  • this film is for the girls

  • @MsH1h1h1h1 how?

  • Looks like it's trying to become the next Avatar.

  • @MrGeekFreek Maybe but it was written a considerable time before avatar

  • @MrGeekFreek ..the next Avatar? What makes you think that?

  • Not another mighty whitey movie.

    Jeez...

  • @Keakboxer the character is a CONFEDERATE soldier, no other races are applicable!

  • attack of the clones?

  • Trying to copy Avatar in some places! -.-

  • @barneyjimbob I am going to explain why that is impossible, this movie is an adaption of a book written in 1912

look up when James Cameron was born

  • @Ralokone Avatar was in the making for 10 years, james cameron wasnt happy with the quality of the effects, so he waited..... this film was in the making let's say about a year ago....Avatar was one of the best films ever and i'm sure other films would try and copy it! idk the trailer is similar to avatar!!

  • @barneyjimbob This movie is based on the saga of Barsoom, that had its first publication in 1912. The movie itself has been in development hell for 79 years, through various studios. It inspired Superman, Flash Gordon, Star Wars, Avatar, Chronicles of Narnia and plenty other sci-fi stories. Most consider it the 'Grandfather' of Sci-Fi novels (even though its not THE first sci-fi saga)

  • @ProtoMarcus True dat!

  • @ProtoMarcus i agree with you except Narnia. It was inspired by the actual book: Ch. of Narnia by CS Lewis and its a fantasy movie/book not sci-fi

  • @CSRiddick From my understanding C.S. Lewis actually despised pulp, but he DID write out of the silent planet, which is considered to be the third greatest mars novel of all time by many of burroughs fans . . . and it has many similarities to burroughs work

  • @CSRiddick In all the things I listed I was refering to the original work, must it be a magazine, book or movie, not its adaptations. And it doesn't mean it was HIGHLY inspired, it could be only a few similarities (I believe the one for narnia is the idea of 'traveling' to a distant 'fantastic' world)

  • @ProtoMarcus and what is THE first sci-fi saga, hmm???

  • @charmander4533 Uhm... That's a tough one. As a 'SAGA', I'm really not sure, but as 'Sci-Fi' story, there's 'Somnium', written between 1620-1630, then there's always 'Gulliver's Travel' (considered sci-fi more than fantasy) published around 1726, 'Micromégas' (1752), ' Nicolai Klimii iter subterraneum' (1741), 'Frankeinstein' (1818) and of course, anything Jules Vernes wrote (19th century). The thing is, the Saga of Barsoom really inspired most modern Sci-Fi stories/Sagas

  • @barneyjimbob This film has been in development hell for over 79 years, there is footage of the original version here on youtube. It was to be an animated film, if it had been made it would have been the first theatrical animated film!

So dont you DARE claim that this film is in any way a ripoff of avatar!

  • @Ralokone Woah chill out! I didn't say it was a 'rip off'. All I said was that in some places it looks similar to Avatar!!! I can tell some people are a bit touchy when it comes to films!

  • @barneyjimbob ....you see similar aspects to Avatar? Let James Cameron himself tell you why (as quoted in an interview with The New Yorker/ 2009 OCT 26): “With ‘Avatar,’ I thought, Forget all these chick flicks and do a classic guys’ adventure movie, something in the Edgar Rice Burroughs mold, like John Carter of Mars—a soldier goes to Mars,” So, who influence whom, eh?

  • @geekeing Jesus I only said it looks a bit like Avatar! Everyone get off my back!

  • Comment removed

  • Why do people think they are clever when they say "John CArter kinda sounds like John Conner"

  • i expect that i'll find a comment about taking an arrow in the knee !
