@sportinlife2006 There were a few music reviews and articles I came across that had provided the set list for Mehldau's performance. As for who J.B. is I believe it's Jon Brion. Brion was the producer for the Largo and Highway Rider albums that Mehldau composed. Of course, Brion is also a musician and in fact I think the song that best reflects Mehldau's waltz is "Here We Go" by Jon Brion. Hope that helps.
@TheJoshanky Thank you for the input. I was wondering if it was Brion based on the fact that he would have worked with him extensively over the years. It does share a few similarities with "here we go". I've found three different recordings of it (the rest being horrible quality compared to this) and not one of them said what song it was.
"Waltz for J.B." is my favorite Mehldau right now. I've been listening to it an insane number of times. Just perfect. I wish he would put it out on an album. Until then, I found an audio copy that's not bad. Great video!
The third song is not "Don't Be Sad," although it is similar in its being a waltzy tune and is played at a similar tempo. I would really love to know which song it is though, because it does not appear on any of Brad's albums that I'm aware of.

A classically trained jazz pianist interpreting The Verve and Nirvana while wearing a Grateful Dead tour shirt. Gotta love that!

I think that his interpretation of this song and also of "Teardrop" is a bit inspired by Steve Reich... I mean, look at his left hand...

He always plays things that previously people would have attempted only with two pianists... Mehldau.

Mr Brad Mehldau can take just any song and make it a masterpiece, what a genius! And the transition between the 2 tunes is brilliant!

Or Waltz for JB, or whatever (see discussion under Oslo concert). Anyway, there is clearly another tune after Smells like Teen Spirit and applauses.
