I am so glad you asked these questions, because it's part of GH history that GH has forgotten. Edward and Lila lived at their family home on Long Island, although they often came to visit and stayed with either Alan and Monica or Tracy, as they both had separate penthouse suites at the HarborView towers. Alan bought this house and gave it to Monica for Christmas 1978, and they spent a lot of time renovating it -- and nearly breaking up -- before moving in in July 1979.
All My Children spent much of 1978 sharing the top-rated spot with Days of Our Lives. One life To Live went back and forth between #2 and #3. But by late 1978, Days fell to No. 4, and General Hospital shot up to number 3, with the David Hamilton story. Early 1979, the Quarantine put GH at number 2, and by October, the rape put them at number 1---where they stayed for 10 years.
Also, let's not forget the Jeff & Heather Webber/PJ is Stevenlauras storyline. That was popular as well with the fans I mean that storyline ran for 3 years on GH (1978 - 1981) before it was really resolved after Diana Taylor was murdered (or killed by accident by Ms. Grant) around February of 1981.
Dear Lord! How the heck did you find such a clear clip after all of this time. It's flawless. And Alan was such a total sweetheart to Monica...well, when he wasn't trying to kill her or sleeping around.
I love this scene! Thanks for posting it! I wish that I was around when these scenes actually aired! Someone should post clips of Alan performing at the nurses ball!
I started watching in 8th grade b/c a friend who was really into the Ice Princess storyline got me hooked but what kept me watching was A&M; this was around the time when Alan was living with Susan and A&M kept having these love/hate moments. They were by far my favorite couple and I became very obsessed. I tried to find clips from the R/M/A triangle which I missed and managed to view a few over the years but MonicaQuartermaine is my hero for letting me finally see some I've never seen.
caprica011986 - I think its great that your only 21 and caught up with A & M because these two characters have a great history together and its nice to see someone in ABC's demographic scheme (18-34) who appreciates them. It just shows how wrong GH/ABC can be when evaluating the popularity of their veteran actors. If MQ keeps posting videos, you're going to get quite a A & M history lesson.
Thanks for thinking so. I've always liked them. And I so agree with you that GH/ABC doesn't know what they are doing.I really hope I get a history lesson because I am a History Major so I'm interested in every history included that of soap operas.
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one back to being addicted to A & M and how can you not fall for Alan. When I was watching the show in the 80s/90s, all my girlfriends loved Luke & Laura or Noah (Rick Springfield), Scorpio, Scotty, etc. I was the only one who thought Alan was the "sexiest" guy on GH. Obviously, I'm not alone.
I keep reading others comment and feel really young. I'm only 21 and because you are posting these clips I'm getting to see where their history is coming from. And I must admit that I was obessed in the 90s but now I'm even more obsessed. Thanks.
Questions: Where Edward and Lila on GH yet? And where did they live? Was this their family home or did Alan just buy it?

This was June of 1979, they were still #2 in the ratings. By October 1979 they would be #1.

@maxineweiss Luke & Laura were what sent GH's ratings through the stratosphere.

Almost surreal how young they were and that this was the "beginning" of the Q's as we know them now.

If you still want to tell ABC what you think about Stuart Damon call 818-460-7477, press 2 then 4 then 464 and then leave 30 second message.
