Second bit:

And then goes on, didn't want to get all the chords but I think the pattern is roughly the same through all the song.

The D+ (first chords you suggest) is just wrong in my opinion

Nice try, Chris Martin is actually also not a really good live singer. Good guitar. You must spend some time on the voice. It's sometimes a bit out of tune. Do you sing often? You have to record your voice and play it at the same time with the song, than you can correct yourself while your singing. Keep the effort up mate.
