I propose a summit meeting where critical mass enthusiasts and concerned motorists get together to work out their differences. Understanding the opposing side's wishes and concerns, would help us all reach a fair and reasonable plan to allow motorists and cyclists to share the road peaceably and safely. When the plan is worked out, we'd all shake hands, lock the doors, pull out our 357 Magnums, and systematically execute the cyclists, one by one, with a single shot to the back of the skull.
Obstructing traffic is illegal, creating traffic jams does nothing for your cause other than make a bunch of motorists sit in traffic wasting fuel and creating pollution. Critical mass is retarded, end of story.

@cwk415 You are incorrect. The taxes that pay for the roads are vehicle property taxes. So no, bikes do not pay for the roads; however, they are allowed to use them if they follow the laws. For example, if I drove my vehicle down a highway that had a speed limit of 55mph and I was going 5mph, I will be cited. Yes, there is a below the speed limit violation as well.

Sure, we're progressing and adding bike lanes to more and more streets and roads, but cycling on the road is dangerous because cars travel at much higher speeds than bikes. I'm a bike messenger in SF and I can not stand critical mass. Most of them only ride there bikes in CM and they ruin it for the rest of us. Most Messengers do not even ride in CM because.

i don't get it, for one day a month, its a mass of bikes that take over the road (some cyclists share, others like to pretend theyre as fat as two lanes of cars). but the rest of the month its a mass of cars, with different but similar assholes that tailgate, run red lights, speed, cut you off etc. yet no one hates motorists on such a great scale, what a double standard! leaves bikers alone, and stop crying, i'm glad critical mass here in Spain isn't as dramatic, I wish you Yanks the best.

@cwk415 You are incorrect. The taxes that pay for the roads are vehicle property taxes. So no, bikes do not pay for the roads; however, they are allowed to use them if they follow the laws. For example, if I drove my vehicle down a highway that had a speed limit of 55mph and I was going 5mph, I will be cited. Yes, there is a below the speed limit violation as well.

@cwk415 If you are traffic, then you should not OBSTRUCT. It is illegal to obstruct traffic, which is what you (assuming you are one of the cyclists shown here) are doing. What you are doing in this video is the equivalent of if I decided to stop in the middle of the freeway, and then have some buddies of mine stop along with me, hang out and chat. If you can't understand that, then you certainly should not be riding anything on public roadways.

Sure, we're progressing and adding bike lanes to more and more streets and roads, but cycling on the road is dangerous because cars travel at much higher speeds than bikes. Therefore, bicyclists should be treated as pedestrians and should have to yield to motor vehicles.

I see what I see and I see patterns - most vehicles in London where I live = single occupancy, large-ish cars, SUVs, etc. NOT carrying a load (I respect APPROPRIATE vehicle use, I'm not crazy). Come cycle the streets of London - it's the fastest (most appropriate then) way to get around, but cyclists ARE oppressed by the traffic, lack of safe cycle paths and general hostile attitude to cycling. That came before Critical Mass, it's the cause.
