It sounds like you tried praying and God didn't answer you, well sorry but He doesn't answer prayers if you do not believe in Him. "Anything" didn't mean material things. Start by really believing in Him, then pray, and wait, I guarantee He will listen and answer, He does for me. But my prayers are related to real life needs. And Jesus definitely could have done that, but that would have changed His divine plan.
@followgood I was a believer for most of my life. Belief is not the issue and you know it. Prayers are not answered in the way Jesus in the gospels is portrayed saying they will be answered. It just doesn't happen that way. And here's the reason: there is no god to listen to and answer the prayers.
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
Maybe Mr Profmth is missing the point. Has he considered that God does answer prayer but yes, no, or not now? Second, maybe the way he does it not what we expected. Finally, there is a wild card in the deck. Freewill. Just my thoughts but no claim.
Interesting. And Jesus promises a HUNDRED FOLD RETURN, and ETERNAL LIFE to anyone who sacrifices anything for him: Matt. 19:29 "everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a HUNDREDFOLD, and inherit eternal life." I proved this scripture to be wrong during my 20+ years as a Christian. It's all HYPE. I hope that others will be spared my wasted years as a Christian by watching your videos.
@truthbknwn Live another 20 years and pay attention this time by understanding God's will and not your own. And how could you prove this wrong? your still here.
@followgood Why do you think god's will is a good thing? It makes absolutely no sense, unless you are a believer and think that all things will be explained after you die. I see no reason whatsoever to waste my life waiting for answers which will never come. What if I die and your god still decides not to provide any answers? Thought of that? And eternity sucks. I can't imagine spending an afterlife with those religious nutjobs I grew up with. Now that is hell.
@followgood "Live another 20 years and pay attention this time by understanding God's will and not your own." Your username says "follow good" but you resort to unfounded insults when confronted with facts that challenge your beliefs. I am quite familiar with the Christian perspective of God's will, thank you very much. Your just being yet another Christian jerk!
So what good is prayer to a little girl who desperately needs help and reassurance that is never forthcoming? Its been 40 years since, and I've never changed my opinion, not thru the death of my baby daughter, the deaths of both my parents and my sister by suicide. God was not the cause because there is no god. Things happen in this world, good and bad, whether we deserve them or not.
The last christian I talked to said god didn't answer prayers because I expected it on my timetable, not his. I had said that when I was a child, my mother was seriously ill for a number of years and we were sent to stay with relatives who took us in because it was their christian duty. I prayed and prayed, but nothing ever happened. I realized early on that its all a crock of shit, I've been atheist since I was 10. Its an easy answer to say its gods will to not help innocent children.
@8698gil That's funny because since I became a true believer I don't worry at all, love life and desire the eternal life. Life is as hard as you make it on yourself. And why is everyone's life so important to live and not die?????
The obvious answer as to why prayers go answered is this, NOBODY'S LISTENING!!! There's nobody up there to hear prayers. Christians are forever making excuses as to why their god doesn't answer, gems like "we cannot know the mind of god", or "all will be revealed to us when we join him in heaven", or"its part of his great plan". Bullshit. Copout. Nobody's there. Get over it and grow up.
@followgood I'm not angry at believers, I just think you are deluded. And it is a shame, because it prevents you from living your life here to the fullest. You choose to waste your life concentrating on another life afterward that you don't even know exists.
So god's kingdom is in harmony when innocent children die of starvation every day, when an entire country can be nearly wiped out by a tsunami? WTF??? Its far more reasonable to assume that many things are simply random events caused by nature, rather than by some mysterious plan that involves torture and suffering of innocent victims. And this is a good thing??? We are supposed to WORSHIP this? Why don't people see how twisted this kind of thinking is?
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
This verse is not a guarantee that we can get anything we want simply by asking Jesus and believing. God does not grant requests that would hurt us or others or that would violate his own nature or will. Jesus' statement is not a blank check. To be fulfilled, our requests must be in harmony with God's kingdom.
@ProfMTH If you were a child predator, because you prayed for a child do you think you should receive one? That is ridiculous. Like I said, our requests must be in harmony with God's kingdom. Also "Are you a righteous person?" The Bible says, in Proverbs 15:29 NIV, "The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous." So to answer your question, YES, GOD answer's all prayer, in His time, not our's. We will never be smart enough to understand.
@mustangpassurchevy So let me get this right. You know more than the all powerful perfect all omnipotent gawwwd as well as the lord jesus? Cause what you say is in direct conflict to what they said. So I have to ask (sorry can not help myself) Who the fuck died and made you gawwwd?
@mustangpassurchevy Let me guess you are another laughably idiotic moron that lies and says the bible does not say to kill disobedient teens to kill people that work Sunday to kill gays or to beat slaves and sell them or even that it is fine to sell your daughter into slavery? You are aren't you? Just another lying ass hole. Make up shit it never said and lie about the rest. But never consider the truth.
@chiefsforpres You will never understand the bible if you read 3 or 4 verses. I wonder why EVERY unbeliever starts there comments with 2nd grade level name calling. GROW UP ALREADY Is that the way you always communicate with people who have differences in option than you? Real grown up of you. You don't see us calling you name's. I won't judge you. God will!! But I'm very Sorry, you are so Misled. Its not the Christians but the unbelievers that are mounting up over 50 MILLION abortion's.
@mustangpassurchevy I was not name calling. You are a moron and an ass hole. You are a liar. Not name calling if it is an actual description. You are judging me and Since there is no god he will not judge me. Moron. I am not the one that believes in completely childish moronic fables so why don't you grow up.
@mustangpassurchevy Did you know that the same D.N.A. evidence that gives you your state mandated excitations that make you jizz your jeans and pray for the day they will be televised for your entertainment also proves beyond any doubt that all human life came out of Africa 200,000 years ago. Not Mount Ararat a few thousand years ago.
@mustangpassurchevy So if you say the bible is real you should not be wasting your life on your knees but fighting with every breath you have to free innocent men on death row. That would make a loving caring intelligent god more happy than burning live animals.
@mustangpassurchevy Knowing that evidence the court uses is false and does not work but doing nothing about it and letting innocent men die that would truly piss of god more that you not selling you daughter into slavery right.
@mustangpassurchevy If you have to choose from bible passages to make up your own religion out of what the bible says as what you replied to me in the first place does not set of alarms beep beep beep this is bullshit. What kind of perfect intelligent god would write us an instruction book that had false instructions in it that you had to decipher?
@mustangpassurchevy Sounds more like a sick ass hole. I would not follow that guy to the store let alone out of the cosmos. You would think an all powerful omnipotent perfect magical god could get something as simple as an instruction book right. You say I am the cause of abortions? But the bible does not say it is wrong? So not only do we have to ignore what it does say to make god happy but then make up more rules it does not have on our own. Beep beep beep. Bullshit meter is melting now.
@mustangpassurchevy The truth is every question about the bible can be answered with one answer. The bible is fake fables and nonsense make up bye bronze age imbeciles and should be throw in the trash can.
@mustangpassurchevy I notice you take time to reply to my post but you ignore the one where you were asked to list the foretold prophecies that already came true? You are not another christian that makes up there own crap out of thin air and spouts it as fact are you? Cause it sure looks that way. That is ok though you are not alone in that practice. You are really not alone.
@mustangpassurchevy You can not answer the question. Because you made the shit up. You know you can not answer it so you give the most juvenile answer your childish mind can conjure up and then have the audacity to tell others to grow up? You think others can not see through your idiotic foolish bullshit? It is not that hard dude. When you limit your mind to something as childish as the bible your arguments will always be simple minded and easy to destroy.
@mustangpassurchevy I have a great life. Job wonderful smart children loving family rent houses my own house car dieses free drug free vacation home. All this having never believed in any bullshit god or asking any make believe magic sky daddies for anything. So do not feel sorry for me. That would be a waste. Remember all the innocent men on death row the false D.N.A. evidence put there. Feel sorry for them and save their lives. It can not be both ways.
@mustangpassurchevy Ether we came from Mount Ararat and D.N.A. is false scientific bullshit. And you know this and are doing nothing about it. Or the bible is bullshit. They can not coexist. One says the exact opposite of the other. One is right one is wrong. If you know the bible is right then god sees you knowing this but doing nothing to help your fellow man but to the contrary rooting for more death penalties. You will not fair well on judgement day.
@mustangpassurchevy So witch is it the bible or your so much sought after death sentences? If you are such a believer in god being real and the power of prayer and god always doing the right thing then you helping all the innocent men railroaded bye false evidence would be simple. Just get a court hearing bring your bible show that D.N.A. and science if false bullshit have god sprinkle magic god dust on the judge and poof all the innocent men are free at last.
@mustangpassurchevy Then while god has his magic god dust out already (I'm sure he is busy) he could sprinkle more on all the graves of the men that have already been put to death for no reason whatsoever and bring them back to life and then with some left over magic god sprinkles make your false statement of foretold prophecies come true. Would all be easy for a high stepper such as god huh? Or is he to stupid for that also? Cause from what I can see he fucks up a lot. I mean look at you.
@chiefsforpres And you said all that to say what?? Because trust me, you said nothing!! I only had to read two sentences and realized you have no clue. And I think you know it to. I think you just like to hear yourself spout off with your 2nd grade nonsense bull crap that you cant back up with anything except your warped backward thinking. I think you hang out with your hero ProfMTH too much. That guy and you are both clueless. But, Have a nice day.
@mustangpassurchevy I have no idea who you are talking about? But I do know you do not know one of my friends that I hang out with and anyone can see that you are the one that spouted of about something that you can not back up? You know you can not name even 7 of the foretold prophecies you claimed the bible actual told of. Once again you talk about one of your own shortcomings and say it is someone else that is doing it. You are the one that made a claim that you can not back up.
@chiefsforpres Tell you what.. I will name 7 prophecies that came true. And after I do you then have admit there is a God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Then you have to drop down on your knee's and ask God in heaven for forgiveness! Well??
@mustangpassurchevy So you still have yet to answer the question I see. How did I know that without even reading your pathetic response? I have no clue what it says but I know for a fact you did not answer the question. Or a bigger point yet is why the fuck you would waste your time when as I said already you will not free all the innocent murders and rapist wrongly convicted with false evidence? It can only be one way. The bible is right or the D.N.A. is right. Only one.
@chiefsforpres Yea well, if in your infinite wisdom you knew how to use a computer you would see I did answer your question. And if your so worried about the so called innocent murders and rapist wrongly convicted why don't you turn off your computer and get off your lazy ass and do something about it, or is it easier to blame it on someone else. And where in Gods name do you come up with such stupid crap as The bible is right or the D.N.A. is right.
@mustangpassurchevy You moronic fuck I believe it is real evidence. I would never want any of those ass holes free. I know they are guilty. You are the one that believes the bible is real. And bye the why christians are the ones that sit on there ass and think they are communicating telepathically to someone that does not exist instead of doing something about it. They are the lazy fucks. If you learned how to use your computer you would know that ether the bible is right or D.N.A. Lazy fuck.
@chiefsforpres No sense in commenting further. I hope you have the blinders removed before it's too late. You will see the end of the age come. We are the last generation. Have a very good life. God loves you.
@mustangpassurchevy The exact same genetic markers used to match evidence left at a crime scene to a suspect also clearly show a link to human assenters 200,000 years ago in Africa. As well as all the old bones found by scientist that all match the same D.N.A. evidence. It clearly shows all human life came out of Africa with no equivocations. You have this same genetic marker I have it there has never been any human on Earth tested that does not have this D.N.A. marker. It is a fact.
@chiefsforpres 200,000 years ago in Africa ha ha.. Now I know your sitting around your house smoking crack. No Proof, None what so ever. Sorry, now you put you faith in Scientist. And there is absolutely NO way to date accurate back that far. Not even close. Boy has someone got you deceived
@mustangpassurchevy So if god was do ever fucking smart how the fuck did he get something so simple as the age of the universe and how humans came about so wrong? If he was there and the most powerful and perfect how did he get out done by people that were not even around till 200,000 years later? You really think someone that fucking stupid and that much of a fuck up should have one ounce of credibility? Here is another one for you. If god created us from his own image.
@mustangpassurchevy Why would a all powerful all mighty god need a body? Why would it be a he? Why would it need nostrils? Why a mouth? Why would it need a belly button? A Dick? An ass crack? An ass hole? If it had to breath and eat it could be killed. Not a good design at all for someone perfect. Why would it need balls? Why would it need toes? All things that make since here where we evolved but make no since for a god in heaven. Yet another perfect example of stupid design?
The Bible accurately foretells specific events in detail, sometimes centuries before they occur. Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, over 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. The remaining may be seen unfolding as days go by. Prophecies are for the most part independent of one another. The odds for all these prophecies having been fulfilled by chance without error is less than one in 1 with 2000 zeros written after it! But you are smarter
@mustangpassurchevy "The Bible accurately foretells specific events in detail, sometimes centuries before they occur. Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, over 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors."
Name 7.
After that, please tell me what, if anything, this has to do with unanswered prayer.
This issue brings up a host of other issues. For example, a high school student knows that one cannot write an effective thesis based on a singular source of knowledge or wisdom. But that is what religions like "Christianity" expect - base all their actions and thoughts on only one source to live their lives!!! Total disregard for other sources of wisdom as in the Kybalion is to their peril, if they seek understanding about the universe, from the perspective of energy, not brainwashing.
@brightsorcerer I am an atheist and tend to treat all philosophical and theological tracts, including the Kybalion, with a certain amount of cautious reserve. However, Apart from that, when it comes to the gist of what you said. I couldn't have said it better. May I quote you?
@HonestMan395 We are in agreement regarding cautious reserve. The idea that there is gray-haired man watching everything I do, already knowing the outcome is a done deal, with or without the prayer, truly is as ludicrous as you've mentioned. Can I quote you?....lol.
When I talk about the failure of prayer, I'm referring to myself & others I knew when I was a Born Again Xian. I seldom prayed 4 things for myself, and seldom for material things. I'm talking about intercessory prayer, and heart-felt, faith backed prayer of a believer. I never saw prayer answered & especially when my whole Congregation prayed for a 7 yr old girl to be healed from Bone Cancer. She died horribly, as did the other children on her Cancer ward. It doesn't work (see studies).
Theres a lot of excuses for unanswered prayer, when it fails
Dont know if someone mentioned isaiah 59:2, psalm 66:18 there are loads verses in the bible why it fails
I think what is more interesting is job.....as you said it doesnt matter if righteous or not.....as you said it rain on the just and unjust....so why bother being righteous
Furthermore, jesus even asked/prayed ..that all would become one....and even that failed....so that really says it all
I have to admit a lot of your arguments make sense. However, I refuse to believe there is no God or creator. And it's possible he is no "Christian God," as we were taught. It's possible that he has placed everything within "time," rather than the way the bible presents them. For example, I may receive a cut...no matter how much I pray, it will not magically disappear. But that cut will heal in time. So, the creator has placed "healing" within time. All things revolve around time.
And, just to let know, there was a number of things I was having a stuggle with as a Christian. For example, we were taught (and it's recorded in the bible), that everyone must accept Christ if he/she is to receive Eternal Life. My question is: why doesn't everyone born into this world even get an opportunity to hear the gospel? I mean, we have infants who die even before they are aware of their very existence! How can one see the importance of the gospel being preached to the.....
"whole world" when such is the case? And Christianity also points out that it is because of Adam & Eve's sin everything that is considered negative, including physical death, is affecting our lives. But it seems (and considering how much the bible says God loves Christ), that his so called "perfect sacrifice" for sin is not enough to pacify God, so as to allow things to return to normal. I am not so sure about these things anymore. I encourage every believer to be open-minded and..
@therog76 So if you ask God to do what God was going to do anyway, he will answer prayer in the affirmative. If not, he will anser with a no or wait. Aren't those the outcomes of non-prayer? Doesn't that make prayer irrelevant? Doesn't John 14:13 indicate God will do whatever you ask so as to glorify God? Even if we allow for logical contradiction i.e. god can't make a square circle, Shouldn't a believer ask to heal the sick and recieve it every time, according to the infallible word of jesus?
@therog76 So every believer who asked god for something believing he/she would get it recieved what they asked for? Could one of you go ahead and pray (and believe it will happen) for world peace?
Very good point, & it's 1 in my paper that, "god doesn't answer prayer."
I know that when I was a Born Again Xian, I had the faith of an angel, yet I never saw any prayers answered. The one that finally broke me was in watching a 7 yr old girl die a slow and agonizing death from Bone Cancer.
But to your point...how many devout Xians have prayed for world peace, to feed the starving, & especially, to end Cancer. Yet all of those things have not only not ended, but have increased!
I think when Jesus said "ask and it shall be given to you and knock and it will be open to you and seek and you will find" simply means that he was referring to hey you idiots, don't just walk in, knock first or to kids, hey don't just real for the Apple, ask to have one or don't wait for miracles, look fir it you dumb ass.
I was a minister. I prayed for others as the Bible tells me to do. After five years, there was no answer. Imagine my dilemma; I'm the guy who was supposed to tell others to pray, yet I couldn't do so because I hadn't seen evidence that prayer worked. I no longer have the dilemma. I simply tell the truth.
Probably the reason why the church was so against the idea of bibles in any language other than latin.
If the lower orders can read it for themselves there are bound to be unwelcome side effects. Like increased expectations apart from an entry into heaven.
The last thing the church would have wanted would be a load of impoverished and starving peasants with awkward questions to be fielded instead of simply paying their tithes and just dying in a orderly fashion.
@canhazthought I never said I don't know God, I said the way HE does things are not the ways which man would choose to do things. HIS ways are higher than ours, because HE sees the end, and the beginning of everything. HE knows every possible decision man can make through life, and every possible outcome of events, form those decisions. All I can see are the events that touch my life, one by one as they happen. Therefore I seek God to guide me, in all things. Some look at horoscopes, I ask God!
@canhazthought Yeah! Here in Louisiana we have had our share of disasters too. In 2005 a hurricane hit my area, not Katrina, That was further north, but Rita hit where I live, in Lake Charles! Before the hurricane, people asked me where am I going, I said Nowhere I am staying, I am not running from God's wrath, because I am not one of the ones HE is mad at. All the houses around mine had bad damage, mine was barely damaged. Tornado's ripped through my neighborhood, God protected my house!
@RudeAwakning I've seen an opposite situation when back in the last lebanese war here in Israel, near the neighbourhood i live, there lived a deeply religious family who decided to just stay without going anywhere and as a consequence their house has been demolished by a bomb and 5 of the 7 family members did not survive while the most of the secular neighbours and even their property around remained safe and unharmed. Your case proves no existance of no god, just a good karma thats all
@canhazthought Not a chance! But those who know God, do not try to undermind HIS saving capacity! Sometimes people have to go all the way to the bottom of the barrel, to where there is no other hope to get them to realize that God is real. You might be there someday!
Well, I guess the "spiritual gifts" thing makes some sense. Maybe I'm only thinking that because it's an answer I haven't already heard a couple hundred thousand times already.
The problem is that I've begged God for spiritual gifts and signs, and I haven't seen anything.
I don't have that problem, God always answers my prayers! But I don't pray for stupid, selfish stuff, or lustful stuff! People who do God's will, don't pray for things, outside of God's will!
@RudeAwakning You're pretty much steering around the problem presented by the broad, unqualified promises about prayer that one finds in the gospels. But most believers do that because those promises are not fulfilled in real life.
@ProfMTH Yup, I am steering around it I guess, because the truth is, if you pray for something stupid, selfish, or not within God's will, You will NOT get it. You CAN NOT negotiate with God. You either trust HIM or you don't. If you don't HE will not even, listen to your prayers, let alone answer them.
@ProfMTH Those sayings there, are for HIS people only, But the definition of a true christian is one in whom, God is in complete control. God wants to RULE your life! If HE does not control every facet of your life, you are not a christian. So there is a little subliminal message on that that may be missing from the text, "According to HIS will" should have been there.
@RudeAwakning you don't know of a childrens charity that could use a couple million dollars? why don't you pray for that? Why is it in "gods will" that thousands of people should die everyday from hunger in the world? why don't you pray for that?
@Raptors09999 God sent the horses of the apocalypse. One of them is famine! Why do you suppose HE did that? So if I prayed a basic prayer to feed the hungry in general, I would be praying against God's will. Instead I pray for God's people, within the famine. The rest are hungry for God's reason!
I became an ex-Christian because of unanswered prayer. I speak Japanese and Christians told me that God gave me a heart to minister Asian people. I prayed unselfishly for years to only do God's will. I wanted to use my spiritual gifts to reach out to the non-Christian nation of Japan. It seemed like God was on my side when I ended up rooming with Japanese Christians and a having a Japanese missionary landlord.
They never wanted my help. The Japanese church also rejected me. -- So much for God.
I have lately been dealing with a lot of doubt. I wont go into my story but I will say this much. To say there is no "god" or any creator whatsoever and everything you feel, see, love, hate etc.. just happened? Thats a stretch, that is absurd. And people know it, otherwise why would most if not all of us be so desperately seeking?
@DInstinct "why would most if not all of us be so desperately seeking?"
Because most, if not all, of us are idiots. If there is one thing that is a given when it comes to human nature. It is the fact that the promise of a fat payoff for your time will motivate almost everyone. And there is so many promises that every religion has. Wealth, happiness, everlasting life, reunited with loved ones, etc. There is something for everyone.
Two things can happen in any situation that is prayed for ( And more often than not, the prayer is very vague anyway ), but the two things are A) The prayer can be 'answered', B) The prayer is 'not answered'.
Every time one is 'answered', you make a connection between you praying, and the result you prayed for. I would just like to ask, in which way, you think that you asking for it to happen, actually caused the result?
Yet predominantly Protestant societies have never prayed for material wealth and lustful things. I wouldn't assess a religion based on your interpretation of its text because it isn't grammatical. Looking at the Christians' appeal to hard work and industry for material gain and faith for salvation, I discern that one shouldn't pray for earthly things.
I've always had problems with the idea of un-answered prayer, but I've seen so much prayer answered, in such spectacular ways, that I'm not ready nor willing to ever hop into the atheist-train-to-hell over a mystery.
Your conclusions are saddening at the end, I wasn't sure where you were going with it, but to conclude there is no God, etc, is laughable. God is seen everywhere, and the humanistic, naturalistic explanation for our world has been evaluated and found wanting. Find Christ, Prof.
Well, there are more conclusions, but they all come down to either believing or not believing. They come down to doubt in the bible, and if a christian doubts the bible, he really has no reason to believe in a christian god. He could make up hos own god, which is what the christians I know do, because they don't want to beliece in what the bible says. But then again there is no point in calling themselves christians.
There are only two conclusions to this problem. Number one, god doesn'r exist.
Number two, there is no such thing as a true believer. If god gives people everything if only they believe, that means people don't really believe in god, but lie to themselves.
But I think none of those explanationa would be very popular among christians. One would have to change their worldview, the other one their view about themselves, and people don't like any of those.
Further clarification: the Spirit Realm exhists in the extra dimensions that physics tells us exists. The spirit realm is where God, angels, and demons exhist, and where prayers are heard - the only place where prayers are answered. They must be in the spirit realm to be considered prayers. Not just Christians enter into the spirit realm. New agers do this all the time through their rituals and meditation and even yoga, but their prayers aren't answered because they are not born again.
My summary: God answers all the prayers of born-again Christians, especially the prayer of 2 or 3 Christians in agreement. But I must define prayer in a way that may seem different for most people: prayer is not just praying anything. Prayer is going into the Spirit Realm - the supernatural atmosphere - where a person can discover God's will. Once that will is discovered, then a person can pray. God will always answer. He can send someone else to pray if you don't, but doesn't have to.
No, we cannot change God's will. If we stop talking to God, God will send someone else. God will always send someone else because God's will will be done. We know God's will b/c God still talks today. He has been talking to me since I was 11. He can tell us His will either by speaking to us or by a message beyond words given to us by the Holy Spirit in the Spirit realm.
God can heal people many ways. Sometimes this is through the medical community - doctors, nurses, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, etc. There is nothing wrong with going to the medical community. God has allowed us to discover cures for various diseases b/c he wants us healed, so there is nothing wrong in using them. However, when the medical community has done all it can and can do no more, what a miracle it is for God to step in and heal that person.
When we pray for somthing and then that something happens, then that shows God did that thing. For example, if a person was healed without being prayed for, then we might not know that God did that. But if the person is prayed for in Jesus name and that person is healed - especially from something hard to heal of like cancer, being raised from the dead, or an organ that had been surgically removed but is now present - than there is no doubt that Jesus did that. This gives honor to God!
So you are basically saying that whatever will happen will happen, but if we prayed for it to happen it happened *because* we prayed for it. If we didn't pray for it it just happened because God felt like making/letting that happen. And if we pray for something and it doesn't happen it wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.
No. Maybe I didn't explain myself well enough. God CAN send someone else to pray and certainty God has sent before, but DOESN'T MEAN HE HAS TO send someone else. I guess it sounded like God has to send someone else when I said, "God's will will happen." I thought it sounded cool to put two will's right after each other, but God doesn't have to send another person. If he chooses not to send someone else to pray and that the orginal person He chooses doesn't pray, than that thing will not happen.
hmm... at the risk of going round in circles, that would bring me back to: By not praying we can influence God's plan, specifically stop it from taking place. Think on a global scale when answering this: If everyone on earth stopped praying alltogether (hypothetically!) God's plan for Armageddon would not come to fruition.
On a hypothtical level, would that be correct to say, according to your beliefs?
No. God can send someone else to pray but He doesn't have to. If God wants to, He can send someone else. God desperately wanted the Israelites set free from Egypt. God wanted to send Moses as His spokesperson. Moses didn't want this, so God sent Moses's brother Aaron instead as God's spokesperson. It depends on the situation if God sends someone else. There will always be people praying. And Armageddon will happen. It's happening is not depenedent on people praying for it to happen.
Okay, so you do again return to total fatalism. Which I personally think is a very saddening approach to reality, given the prophecies you accepted (Armageddon and all it entails is not a very happy prospect for me).
I feel you rely a bit much on spritual sounding catch phrases and a not enough on making sense. My tip would be to try and rephrase your ideas to make them understandable for people wothout your experiences.
I'll have to leave for now (it's 4am here and that paper doesn't write itself, as much as I try to make it do exactly that) and so these are my closing remarks for the day.
Thank you for taking the time to answer to my comments. Feel free to give me some final thoughts of your own.
Wow, you must not be in the US then. It is 2 AM here in the Eastern Hempishere and I am responding to your message when it is 4 hours old. I don't believe everything is fate. What phrases in particular do you feel I should get rid of?
Regarding your argument: It's not so much a phrase, it's the logic of your point as a whole (I'm avoiding the word argument because I don't feel like you're trying to make one). If you want to convince or appeal to anyone who doesn't share your experience, think about the words you use. You weren't talking about prayer but prophecy in the general sense (the act of speaking for a deity or having it speak through oneself).
And don't jump back and forth between different positions. Yes, your position *is* fatalistic. And it needs to be if you have an apocalyptic believe. You're a self-described fundamentalist, so don't shy away from fatalism. Free will has no place in biblical beliefs anyway (it's definitely not mentioned in the bible). Every description you gave did clearly show that humans (and prayer) are completely powerless in any meaningful sense. Make that clearer.
You definitely describe mankind's fate as sealed. And if you're going to end up at a fire and brimstone theology anyway, just run with it. You believe that all who haven't done what you've done (accept total obedience to an immoral dictator deity) are going to be tortured for all eternity. There is no good news in there, no matter how you try to spin it and how enthusiastic you are about it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, hell awaits me and I have a shitton of masturbation to do before that. ;-)
Yes, God can move mountains! If while in the Spirit Realm, the Holy Spirit reveals that it is in the Lord's will to move a mountain, then a Christian can pray for this to happen and it will!
Two years ago, I was very sick for 4 months - flu-like symptoms and couldn't swallow anything except soft food. Early on I really wanted healed, but I perceived in the Spirit Realm that it was not time yet to pray this prayer. Thus I did not pray. Then I perceived when the right time was, so I prayed. God gave me a dream that he would send someone to me pray for me and my dream was answered according to the dream's details. I was healed! In the spirit realm, I knew God's will when to pray.
There is one prayer God will answer from anyone who means it. Anyone can pray this and have it answered - no matter what religion they are from, no matter what sins they have committed, no matter what, as long as they mean it. What prayer is this?
This prayer is when a person prays to make Jesus his or her Savior and Lord. That is how a person becomes a born-again Christian - by praying that prayer and turning to Jesus as their savior from sin and unto eternal life.
When Jesus was talking, He was only talking to those who were born again. Thus a person must be born again before any prayer can be answered. If 2 or 3 born-again people agree and pray together (the important number is 2 or 3, not more), God will answer all the prayers of these 2 or 3.
@spreadthegospel Did you know that if you go to the river and pick up a rock you can bring that rock home and pray to it every day? It's true! And it always answers your prayers! Mind you, sometimes the answer will be YES, sometimes it will be NO, and sometimes it will be WAIT, but it will always answer your prayer. Just like God. Just exactly like God.
That sounds very intriguing! Would you mind gathering one or two of your born again friends and praying for God to end poverty, hunger and disease in the world? That would be totally boss!
I would of course like to help out but apparently I'm spiritually underequipped to be noticed by the almighty. :-(
Either way, in the name of this world's population: Thanks in advance! It's about damn time (pardon my language) that someone does something really helpful.
Your suggestion is absolutely going to come true! Jesus is going to come back and there's going to be a great war called Armagedon. It will be Jesus Christ versus the antichrist and Jesus will win. Then the earth will be revamped to be absolutely wonderful and there will be peace on earth for 1000 years. There will be no war, poverty, or anything like that for 1000 years. Jesus will rule during that time as king over the entire earth. After the 1000 years, then eternity starts. Revelation 20.
But what if I were to pray, "well start all this today"? Well, I wouldn't pray this b/c this is not what God has set up. He has a whole plan of when this 1000 years will happen. And when you pray in the Spirit, you pray according to God's will. You have to pray according to God's will because that is what praying in the Spirit is all about. You know what God's will is because this information is provided to you by God when you go to Him in the Spirit realm.
Many Christians simply say whatever they want to in their prayers. They do not allow time to wait on the Lord and hear from Him first what He wants them to pray for. They simply dive into their prayes saying what they want to and not diving into the spirit realm. They are simply talking to the air. They are not actually praying. If they were praying, they would enter the spirit realm. Thus there prayers cannot be answered b/c they never actually prayed. Their "prayers" were in the natural realm.
A person who prays in the spirit realm is actually praying. Praying in the natural realm is not actually praying. It is just talking to the air. or thinking to yourself. All prayers prayed by born-again Christians that are entered in the Spirit Realm will come true because these prayers follow the will of God. These people know what the will of God is b/c God let them them His will through the Spirit Realm supernatually.
Sooo... you *could* pray for it to happen now and it *would* happen now, but you don't, thus accepting billions of people's suffering even though you could end it? And that does not cause any kind of conflict with your consciousness?
Also, couldn't you at least ask for Him to leave out the whole 'war'-part? Does it have to be so damn melodramatic?
Also also, what good are fulfilled prayers if you have to reduce prayers to what God wants to do anyway?
Isn't that a bit like me saying: "You can ask me to do anything right now, and I will do it! As long as you ask me to write a psychology paper and watch a few YouTube videos inbetween. All other wishes will not be fulfilled because they are not part of my plan."
Your argument seems to make prayer something that *can* be relied upon but at the same time it completely strips the idea of prayer of any meaning...
God hates war!!! But as strange as it may seem, there is a purpose to war. God will put a complete stop to war very soon. The end of time is very close. If I were to pray for war today to end war, then that would go against the Bible because the Bible predicts there will be more wars, especiallly the battle of Armagedon. God will not answer a prayer that goes against the Bible. It is impossible to pray in the Holy Spirit if your prayer goes against the Bible.
If you can only pray for things that are going to happen anyway, why bother? Aren't you talking about something completely different than, say, Jesus did when he talked about prayer? What about his famous example of the mountain being moved? Why give that example if it refers to something God would obviously never do?
God revealed early on why He did not want me healed right away. The longer I was sick, the more of a miracle it would be when I was actually healed. God allowed me to have dysphagia (swallowing problems) since I am going to be a speech therapist and speech therapists, besides working with speech, also work with swallowing problems. Now I will forever be able to relate to my patients. 4 months was just the time period I needed to relate to them. Any shorter period of time wouldn't be sufficent.
Congrats on overcoming your illness. But unfortunately that does not answer my question. Why won't God make things happen that he planned to have happen unless born again people pray for them to happen?
Also, isn't your job just going to consist of telling people to pray and find out whether God wants them to be healed or not, then? Going to school for that seems... a rather overprized way to be able to do that.
God greatly desires a relationship with people. He doesn't want to be distant. He wants us to be close friends with Him. Prayer is a supernatual connection with God. It is not just about asking for things, but also about talking with God and God talking back. Prayer allows us to be a part of God's will. It's all about relationship.
And *yet* we can influence God's will, even stop Him from following His plan by not praying? Are you saying that He puts so much importance on the 'realationship' idea that He would indeed give up His plans if we didn't talk to Him?
If there was... "god", why would HE (or SHE) listen to YOUR prayer(s) when the god doesn't even listen to people whose much less fortunate than YOU are (i.e.: childrens' prayer from dying of hunger throughout the world)!
Maybe, if you love God and you pray alot, you will get what you want more often than not.I would be interested to hear from experieced christians about this.BTW this is a very good vid, even though I dont agree with atheism.
I always thought that the quote "It rains on the just and the unjust" was great. Prayer will not save you from pain and suffering, we all suffer. Learning to accept this and to go on with life is something everyone must do but few chose to. Great vid ProfMTH
The problem is that Jesus *does* offer a few convenient qualifiers to his claims about prayer:
Matthew 21:21 Then Jesus told them, I tell you the truth, *if you have faith and dont doubt*, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea, and it will happen. (emphasis mine)
So you have to believe it before it will happen. Kind of like with "The Secret". LOL.
And Jesus definitely could have done that, but that would have changed His divine plan.
followgood 3 weeks ago
@followgood I was a believer for most of my life. Belief is not the issue and you know it. Prayers are not answered in the way Jesus in the gospels is portrayed saying they will be answered. It just doesn't happen that way. And here's the reason: there is no god to listen to and answer the prayers.

@ProfMTH God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

8698gil 3 months ago
The last christian I talked to said god didn't answer prayers because I expected it on my timetable, not his. I had said that when I was a child, my mother was seriously ill for a number of years and we were sent to stay with relatives who took us in because it was their christian duty. I prayed and prayed, but nothing ever happened. I realized early on that its all a crock of shit, I've been atheist since I was 10. Its an easy answer to say its gods will to not help innocent children.
8698gil 3 months ago
@8698gil Think of eternal life and what you need to do to recieve it and this tempoary life will have a very different meaning.

8698gil 3 weeks ago
@8698gil That's funny because since I became a true believer I don't worry at all, love life and desire the eternal life. Life is as hard as you make it on yourself. And why is everyone's life so important to live and not die?????
followgood 3 weeks ago
The obvious answer as to why prayers go answered is this, NOBODY'S LISTENING!!! There's nobody up there to hear prayers. Christians are forever making excuses as to why their god doesn't answer, gems like "we cannot know the mind of god", or "all will be revealed to us when we join him in heaven", or"its part of his great plan". Bullshit. Copout. Nobody's there. Get over it and grow up.

8698gil 3 months ago
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.
This verse is not a guarantee that we can get anything we want simply by asking Jesus and believing. God does not grant requests that would hurt us or others or that would violate his own nature or will. Jesus' statement is not a blank check. To be fulfilled, our requests must be in harmony with God's kingdom.
mustangpassurchevy 4 months ago
@mustangpassurchevy So, then, the statement "if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer" is not accurate, correct?
ProfMTH 4 months ago
@ProfMTH If you were a child predator, because you prayed for a child do you think you should receive one? That is ridiculous. Like I said, our requests must be in harmony with God's kingdom. Also "Are you a righteous person?" The Bible says, in Proverbs 15:29 NIV, "The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous." So to answer your question, YES, GOD answer's all prayer, in His time, not our's. We will never be smart enough to understand.
mustangpassurchevy 4 months ago
@mustangpassurchevy So let me get this right. You know more than the all powerful perfect all omnipotent gawwwd as well as the lord jesus? Cause what you say is in direct conflict to what they said. So I have to ask (sorry can not help myself) Who the fuck died and made you gawwwd?

Not Mount Ararat a few thousand years ago.

chiefsforpres 2 months ago
@mustangpassurchevy Ether we came from Mount Ararat and D.N.A. is false scientific bullshit. And you know this and are doing nothing about it. Or the bible is bullshit. They can not coexist. One says the exact opposite of the other. One is right one is wrong. If you know the bible is right then god sees you knowing this but doing nothing to help your fellow man but to the contrary rooting for more death penalties. You will not fair well on judgement day.
chiefsforpres 2 months ago
@mustangpassurchevy So witch is it the bible or your so much sought after death sentences? If you are such a believer in god being real and the power of prayer and god always doing the right thing then you helping all the innocent men railroaded bye false evidence would be simple. Just get a court hearing bring your bible show that D.N.A. and science if false bullshit have god sprinkle magic god dust on the judge and poof all the innocent men are free at last.
chiefsforpres 2 months ago
@mustangpassurchevy Then while god has his magic god dust out already (I'm sure he is busy) he could sprinkle more on all the graves of the men that have already been put to death for no reason whatsoever and bring them back to life and then with some left over magic god sprinkles make your false statement of foretold prophecies come true. Would all be easy for a high stepper such as god huh? Or is he to stupid for that also? Cause from what I can see he fucks up a lot. I mean look at you.

You are the one that made a claim that you can not back up.

@mustangpassurchevy So you still have yet to answer the question I see. How did I know that without even reading your pathetic response? Or a bigger point yet is why the fuck you would waste your time when as I said already you will not free all the innocent murders and rapist wrongly convicted with false evidence? It can only be one way. The bible is right or the D.N.A. is right. Only one.
chiefsforpres 2 months ago
@chiefsforpres Yea well, if in your infinite wisdom you knew how to use a computer you would see I did answer your question. And if your so worried about the so called innocent murders and rapist wrongly convicted why don't you turn off your computer and get off your lazy ass and do something about it, or is it easier to blame it on someone else. And where in Gods name do you come up with such stupid crap as The bible is right or the D.N.A. is right.

Some biblical scholars say that prayer is actually arrogant and self-centred.
If god is omniscient, then he has already decided what is to happen in the world.
If you pray to him to for something, then you are assuming you can change his mind. Whether or not your prayer is answered is irrelevant.
If what happens was always god’s plan then your prayer was wasted and useless.
If it was not his plan then you have the power to change god’s mind, therefore he is not omniscient.

But it seems (and considering how much the bible says God loves Christ), that his so called "perfect sacrifice" for sin is not enough to pacify God, so as to allow things to return to normal.

Very good point, & it's 1 in my paper that, "god doesn't answer prayer."
I know that when I was a Born Again Xian, I had the faith of an angel, yet I never saw any prayers answered. The one that finally broke me was in watching a 7 yr old girl die a slow and agonizing death from Bone Cancer.
But to your point...how many devout Xians have prayed for world peace, to feed the starving, & especially, to end Cancer. Yet all of those things have not only not ended, but have increased!

Ahh, the good old days.

RudeAwakning 1 year ago

Well, I guess the "spiritual gifts" thing makes some sense. Maybe I'm only thinking that because it's an answer I haven't already heard a couple hundred thousand times already.
The problem is that I've begged God for spiritual gifts and signs, and I haven't seen anything.
CaptSeriouspants 1 year ago
I don't have that problem, God always answers my prayers! But I don't pray for stupid, selfish stuff, or lustful stuff! People who do God's will, don't pray for things, outside of God's will!
RudeAwakning 1 year ago
@RudeAwakning You're pretty much steering around the problem presented by the broad, unqualified promises about prayer that one finds in the gospels. But most believers do that because those promises are not fulfilled in real life.
ProfMTH 1 year ago
@ProfMTH Yup, I am steering around it I guess, because the truth is, if you pray for something stupid, selfish, or not within God's will, You will NOT get it. You CAN NOT negotiate with God. @ProfMTH Those sayings there, are for HIS people only, But the definition of a true christian is one in whom, God is in complete control. God wants to RULE your life!

First of all there is NO SUCH THING as an unanswered prayer.
God answers yes or no to ALL prayer.
Second of all people pray amiss. They think that God is some magical genie that when rubbed correctly He will answer.
However, the prayers of rightious people is far different from the KNUCKLEHEADS begging for a limo to drop from the sky.
Pray is NEVER an attempt to get God to do YOUR WILL. Prayer is getting YOU to do HIS WILL!

You have seen so much prayers answered?
Two things can happen in any situation that is prayed for ( And more often than not, the prayer is very vague anyway ), but the two things are A) The prayer can be 'answered', B) The prayer is 'not answered'.
Every time one is 'answered', you make a connection between you praying, and the result you prayed for. I would just like to ask, in which way, you think that you asking for it to happen, actually caused the result?
dodlord 1 year ago
Yet predominantly Protestant societies have never prayed for material wealth and lustful things. I wouldn't assess a religion based on your interpretation of its text because it isn't grammatical. Looking at the Christians' appeal to hard work and industry for material gain and faith for salvation, I discern that one shouldn't pray for earthly things.

FierceRodents 2 years ago
There are only two conclusions to this problem. Number one, god doesn'r exist.
Number two, there is no such thing as a true believer. If god gives people everything if only they believe, that means people don't really believe in god, but lie to themselves.
But I think none of those explanationa would be very popular among christians. One would have to change their worldview, the other one their view about themselves, and people don't like any of those.
FierceRodents 2 years ago
Prayer has been proven 100 % ineffective in earthly matters. The effectiveness in spiritual matters can not be measured nor ascertained or denied.
lizazoon 2 years ago
Further clarification: the Spirit Realm exhists in the extra dimensions that physics tells us exists. The spirit realm is where God, angels, and demons exhist, and where prayers are heard - the only place where prayers are answered. They must be in the spirit realm to be considered prayers. Not just Christians enter into the spirit realm. New agers do this all the time through their rituals and meditation and even yoga, but their prayers aren't answered because they are not born again.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
My summary: God answers all the prayers of born-again Christians, especially the prayer of 2 or 3 Christians in agreement. But I must define prayer in a way that may seem different for most people: prayer is not just praying anything. Prayer is going into the Spirit Realm - the supernatural atmosphere - where a person can discover God's will. Once that will is discovered, then a person can pray. God will always answer. He can send someone else to pray if you don't, but doesn't have to.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
No, we cannot change God's will. If we stop talking to God, God will send someone else. God will always send someone else because God's will will be done. We know God's will b/c God still talks today. He has been talking to me since I was 11. He can tell us His will either by speaking to us or by a message beyond words given to us by the Holy Spirit in the Spirit realm.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
God can heal people many ways. Sometimes this is through the medical community - doctors, nurses, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, etc. There is nothing wrong with going to the medical community. God has allowed us to discover cures for various diseases b/c he wants us healed, so there is nothing wrong in using them. However, when the medical community has done all it can and can do no more, what a miracle it is for God to step in and heal that person.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
When we pray for somthing and then that something happens, then that shows God did that thing. For example, if a person was healed without being prayed for, then we might not know that God did that. But if the person is prayed for in Jesus name and that person is healed - especially from something hard to heal of like cancer, being raised from the dead, or an organ that had been surgically removed but is now present - than there is no doubt that Jesus did that. This gives honor to God!
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
@spreadthegospel
Pretty sneaky. ;-)
So you are basically saying that whatever will happen will happen, but if we prayed for it to happen it happened *because* we prayed for it. If we didn't pray for it it just happened because God felt like making/letting that happen. And if we pray for something and it doesn't happen it wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.
Have I summorized your beliefs correctly?
defcore108 2 years ago
If he chooses not to send someone else to pray and that the orginal person He chooses doesn't pray, than that thing will not happen.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
@spreadthegospel
hmm... at the risk of going round in circles, that would bring me back to: By not praying we can influence God's plan, specifically stop it from taking place. Think on a global scale when answering this: If everyone on earth stopped praying alltogether (hypothetically!) God's plan for Armageddon would not come to fruition.
On a hypothtical level, would that be correct to say, according to your beliefs?
defcore108 2 years ago

Regarding your argument: It's not so much a phrase, it's the logic of your point as a whole (I'm avoiding the word argument because I don't feel like you're trying to make one). If you want to convince or appeal to anyone who doesn't share your experience, think about the words you use.

There is no good news in there, no matter how you try to spin it and how enthusiastic you are about it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, hell awaits me and I have a shitton of masturbation to do before that. ;-)

In the spirit realm, I knew God's will when to pray.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
There is one prayer God will answer from anyone who means it. Anyone can pray this and have it answered - no matter what religion they are from, no matter what sins they have committed, no matter what, as long as they mean it. What prayer is this?
This prayer is when a person prays to make Jesus his or her Savior and Lord. That is how a person becomes a born-again Christian - by praying that prayer and turning to Jesus as their savior from sin and unto eternal life.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
When Jesus was talking, He was only talking to those who were born again. Thus a person must be born again before any prayer can be answered. If 2 or 3 born-again people agree and pray together (the important number is 2 or 3, not more), God will answer all the prayers of these 2 or 3.

Revelation 20.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
But what if I were to pray, "well start all this today"? Well, I wouldn't pray this b/c this is not what God has set up. He has a whole plan of when this 1000 years will happen. And when you pray in the Spirit, you pray according to God's will. You have to pray according to God's will because that is what praying in the Spirit is all about. You know what God's will is because this information is provided to you by God when you go to Him in the Spirit realm.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
Many Christians simply say whatever they want to in their prayers. They do not allow time to wait on the Lord and hear from Him first what He wants them to pray for. They simply dive into their prayes saying what they want to and not diving into the spirit realm. They are simply talking to the air. They are not actually praying. If they were praying, they would enter the spirit realm. Thus there prayers cannot be answered b/c they never actually prayed. Their "prayers" were in the natural realm.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
A person who prays in the spirit realm is actually praying. Praying in the natural realm is not actually praying. It is just talking to the air. or thinking to yourself. All prayers prayed by born-again Christians that are entered in the Spirit Realm will come true because these prayers follow the will of God. These people know what the will of God is b/c God let them them His will through the Spirit Realm supernatually.
spreadthegospel 2 years ago
Sooo... you *could* pray for it to happen now and it *would* happen now, but you don't, thus accepting billions of people's suffering even though you could end it? And that does not cause any kind of conflict with your consciousness?
Also, couldn't you at least ask for Him to leave out the whole 'war'-part? Does it have to be so damn melodramatic?
Also also, what good are fulfilled prayers if you have to reduce prayers to what God wants to do anyway?

Isn't that a bit like me saying: "You can ask me to do anything right now, and I will do it! As long as you ask me to write a psychology paper and watch a few YouTube videos inbetween. All other wishes will not be fulfilled because they are not part of my plan."
Your argument seems to make prayer something that *can* be relied upon but at the same time it completely strips the idea of prayer of any meaning...
defcore108 2 years ago

Now I will forever be able to relate to my patients. 4 months was just the time period I needed to relate to them. Any shorter period of time wouldn't be sufficent.

Congrats on overcoming your illness. But unfortunately that does not answer my question. Why won't God make things happen that he planned to have happen unless born again people pray for them to happen?
Also, isn't your job just going to consist of telling people to pray and find out whether God wants them to be healed or not, then? Going to school for that seems... a rather overprized way to be able to do that.
defcore108 2 years ago
God greatly desires a relationship with people. He doesn't want to be distant. He wants us to be close friends with Him. Prayer is a supernatual connection with God. It is not just about asking for things, but also about talking with God and God talking back. Prayer allows us to be a part of God's will. It's all about relationship.

LOL.
