  • IT'S LOVELY...

  • I think so too (the sound of tenths, that is).

    Thanks

    George

  • been playing bass for a while, but i've been stuck in a rut for making new songs.. so i was looking for some inspiration- but i found this instead. nice work!

one thing.. a lot of people use tabs and because of that they might not understand what you're trying to explain. maybe put the camera a bit closer to the neck so they can see better?

barley a problem tho. i added some of your vids to my favorites, i'll be sure to let anyone interested in learning the bass see these videos!

    cheers!

  • Instead of the "look" method, I use the "listen and look" method. For example, I say "D with the first finger on the 12th fret of the D string".

Thanks for your kind comments and "word-of-mouth" offer.

    George

  • Thank you for these videos. VERY HELPFUL!

  • I'm always happy to be helpful. Thanks for your appreciation.

    George

  • how do you make it sound like that??

  • Hello, I don't know exactly what you mean. The sound is quite normal and the technique is explained in the video.

    George

  • @BassLessonsOnline lol you are right,..my comment idnt say what i wantend to lol....i mean....what do you use to record and get that awesome deep clean sound..thanks

  • Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with S1 Switch

ADA MB-1 Programmable Preamp (with some compression in this self-made preset sound)

Tascam Portastudio 246 as a mixer

    iMovie on a MacBook

  • We have the same bass guitar :D

  • ... and we are loving it!

    George

  • ive been on your site and it is well set out. how may i use this as a novice left hend player????

  • Thanks for checking in.

My step-by-step Beginner series of Bass Lessons Online can easily be used by left-handed players - just use the "mirror image" approach.

Also, especially in the early stages of my lessons, I often make relevant and useful suggestions for left-handed players (also for 5 and 6-string bass players).

    George

  • thanks

  • I can hear everything just fine. Thanks! You're awesome :)

  • Excellent. Thanks for your enthusiastic comment.

    George

  • Love your lessons, you just got yourself another subscriber!

  • Excellent - thank you!

    George

  • I really can't hear anything you say ._. the others videos are ok, but I can't hear anything in this video =/

    "why? whyyy??? buaa" xD

    *sorry for my poor english*

    hugs

  • This is one of e few videos I recorded in full stereo mode, where the voice is on one channel and the bass on the other.

Please check your computer/stereo settings to get either both channels or mono.

    Good luck!

    George

  • double stop?

  • Yes "double stop" is a classical term, meaning to play two notes simultaneously on a stringed instrument.

    George

  • I can't hear anything you say, and barely hear your bass.

  • This video is recorded with the voice and bass on separate channels. The bass is quite loud, on the right channel.

    Please check you system setup.

    George

  • @godot93 VOLUME !!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks a lot!, very good lesson.

  • That's great - I'm glad you had the benefit!

    george

  • i didnt now bass had chords just one note strikes

  • well a bass has 4 strings, making it possible to play chords, usually they are only 2 or 3 note voicings though

  • for your information, some people (including myself) actually enjoy listening to people explain the theory that is used behind music. Go play your power chords to your pop punk music..

  • Your Aussie? like me!

    Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

    Oi! Oi! Oi!

  • Hello Reub -- thanks for your enthusiasm.

    George

  • i really think that your lessons are awsome. some of them helped me too. helping others is really rare nowdays. keep up the video posting! cheers and best regards

  • Thanks for checking a couple of my You Tube videos and for your positive comments.

    George

  • i have played some months but not so intense, just maybe 2 times week, i have yust teached me slap best, do you think i have to go to a teacher and learn more, or can i keep learning on watching on you, becouse your pretty good

  • Nothing beats good face-to-face lessons from a qualified bass instructor ... plus your own practice and application, for example in a band.

    Bass of Luck!

    George

  • can you make some realy! noobs lesson, for me who is realy noob, and dont understand some of bass guitar lessons on youtube, but i understand you better, so plz help me!

  • Hello

Just go to my Lessons 1-4. You'll find them in the scroll bar over there >>>>>

    George

  • i think it's much better to play the major chord with the 2nd and 4th finger...

  • I haven't got a musical bone in my body...

Do you think I should take up playing the base?

  • no u shouldnt

  • People often think and say that they don't have musical bones. This is usually just a perception based on inaccurate or incomplete info.

A good teacher will help you regardless of your perception. However, do consider "We are what we think."

    George

  • you're the best bass teacher ever george ...your lessons are great

  • I'm flattered - thanks.

    Happy learning!

    George

  • thanks for the lesson but i really could not see your finger placements. Also you need to explain in more detail some of the musical jargon that you are using. Even if you explain it in another video it is still great help to explain it properly each time you use the word. Even just saying the "3rd" and the "10th" can zoom way over my head. Thanks for the video

  • Hello

Thanks for your appreciation of this video.

I do explain and demonstrate. Take another look and listen. (Some subscribers say I talk too much and I know very well that we cannot please everybody all of the time.)

You probably should get a music theory book. They cost less than $10.

    George

  • I am CZ no understund... :(

  • when u play by chords do you have to play all the strings at the same time?

  • No, on this video I play only the two outside strings simultaneously, then, from 2:34 I play them separately.

My suggestion to you: Experiment - what sounds good is good.

    Bass of Luck!

    George

  • HAHA this was the bass i spoke of on ur number 3 lesson vid, this would have been helpful if i didnt know "Tabs" barely and from the deepest to highest strings i was taught E-A-D-G or maybe other way around, think its the eadg part but idk if its right anyway if u could get back to me with this it would be much appreciated =P

  • E A D G (deepest to highest sound, thickest to thinnest) is correct.

    George

  • Sir George, your videos have been a huge help!

    Thank you ;)

  • Thank you too ... and greetings from Australia!

    George

  • very helpful!! Thank you!!!!!

  • Thank you too - I'm always happy to help.

    George

  • Thank you!It really helps me a lot!I'll be very appreciate if you can give me some bass chord on tabs!!

  • Hello Red

    I'm happy I could help :)

Check out my You Tube video "Learn a Jazz Blues" where you will see more chords, this time in 10ths.

There are heaps of possible chord voicings on the bass and my recommendation is to work some out for yourself and then write your own tabs (if you still need to).

    All the chords to you!

    George

  • All the best to George!

  • thank you again,,...wit this im understanding.. other cords.. thank again.. "i can see clearly now"

  • I am having trouble making my chords sound clean, I get frett buzz, any suggestions?

  • My first thoughts/questions are

    1. Is your "action" too low? This is set at the bridge.

    2. Is your bass neck too convex? This can be set by altering the truss rod tension.

    3. Are you fretting close enough to the fret wire?

The cause could be any combination of the above.

  • I think my action is a bit on the lower side and I need to work suggestion 3! My fingers are a bit stiff making the chord shapes!

  • VERY useful. I kinda knew it - but after you spelled it out I really know. thanks and cheers from ATL

  • Hello ATL

Thanks for your comment. It certainly helps (sometimes) when we know exactly what we are doing.

Through more than 30 years of teaching (and playing) bass my explanations are starting to work :)

  • sir tnx for the very usewful lessons for a begginer bass player

  • I'm happy to get such positive response and it is great to see that people such as you find my bass lessons useful.

  • This video is awesome. I play these chords but never new what they were actually called. Thanks!!!!

  • I'm always happy to give new insight.

    Thanks for your comment.

    George

  • wow thats simple! and it sounds really effective! Thanks

  • You're welcome. Thanks for you comment.

BTW: I saw the Iron Maiden at Abbey Road performance (posted on your profile site) on TV just a few days ago ... and loved it!
