Like Richard Lloyd of Television, Dee Dee was a part-time rent boy to support a heroin habit. Read John Rechy's "City of Night" and Josh Alan Friedman's "Tales of Times Square"...very interesting. Crime was so rampant that even the cops could barely stem the tide, and NYC politics were pretty much in a state of anarchy. As for 53rd & 3rd...beats me, but read Jim Carroll's account in "Please Kill Me" by Legs McNeil...there's a whole chapter on it!
