  • You should build a tamiya 1/48 p-51

  • Great model does not matter how long it takes imho but you enjoy doing the build . "Its the journey that counts ". Could you havea go at a Wheeled tank such as a puma or LAV etc . keep up the good work . Best wishes

  • good job keep it up :)

  • THREE months?? Isn't that kinda long...? A kit like this should take no more than a week. I airbrush everything, including the camo. Cutting out the holes in the paper for the camo takes a lot of time. Still, a kit like this should be finished within a week if you work on it every day. If I remember correctly this airplane should have far more (smaller) spots.

  • make a t34 tank pls nobody does

  • Sorry. I sold mine :(

  • eh i got that too , but only i accidently sat on it and crushed it , lol

  • LoL

    How unfortunute.

  • It took you THREE MONTHS!!!???? (Please reply..)

    Really nice looking zero! :D

  • Yeah. Everyday for three months. The cockpit alone took me two weeks. Any more questions?

  • Hehe, nooo! :D

  • The competition is closed! Thanks for your entry.. this is the second judging (by me)! Please allow a few days for the results to be posted! Thank you!

  • Ah well. Next time I guess. I swear youtube is forcefully making it take a long time to process. Oh well. :)

  • Rest assure there will be another competition.. :) :)

  • Yes!

  • Hooray! I've always wanted one of those... :) :)

  • what telepathic abilities...I just finished a message to a friend and I mentioned the USNavy version of a C-131...that will be nice to see from you :)

  • C-131, eh? I'll look into it.

  • jpm, do you have a source for all the military camouflage colour referrence(military color matching pallete), i have been slow in modelling paper and plastic models so most of my home made paints dried up.

    my projects are:

    1/72:

    V-22 osprey

    comanche

    paper:

    viper Mk7 galactica

    Cylon basestar

  • Hi,

    who piloted this aircraft?

what is the unit or squadron for this aircraft?

    i thinks it's Tamiya A6M5c not A6M2 lol...

  • To be honest, I'm not sure.

  • how many coats of white did you need

  • I used a white primer first and then did five additional coats of flat white.

  • ever tried paper modeling?

its way cheaper, more challenging to build, more pleasure after building!!

  • Yeah, but the extra money on a really nice Tamiya or Haseagawa kit really pays off in the end.

  • but in the short time to achieve what others can easily achieve is no achievement to me..

whats special to paper, is there are limits but at the same time there are benefits not present in plastic modelling.

the challenge of building a kit no LARGE plastic modeler ever thought making(Viper from BSG, Cylon Raiders, Battlestar galactica(new and orig series) in 1.5 and 3 foot size for free)

    etc...

  • ..'easily achieve'?? There's NOTHING EASY about plastic modelling.. :)

  • yeah, I would built a plastic model in a couple hours and it looked bad :)

don't know what that always happens but it does :)

  • The clue here lies in the 'a couple of hours' bit, me thinks.. :)

  • you think?

  • Not often..

  • you know you should spend more time with a model if you really want scale looks.

    same with papermodels.

if your the average guy who once built a tamiya mini 4wd, then just stik to mini 4wd or, graduate to rc stuff.

  • I spend as much time with a model as I think it neeeds.. I'm not after exact replicas, as that is near impossible anyway! When you get too pedantic I find it spoils the hobby! A prime example is the chairman in our club, who has more or less given up building, as he can't get the models exactly the way he wants them.. and what fun is that?? I rather build mine to a level where I'm happy with them, and they look like whatever it's supposed to be.. but not neccesarily an EXACT replica.. :)

  • thats the problem when you are too much of a perfectionist.

it does no good in modeling and in real life.

perfectionism in modeling actually detracts it from being a relaxing hobby as a lot of us see it..

a scratch here, a missing pito tube, cracked modified canopy, can give character to our models...

never mind on the color chart, found one in my free office time(yup i go to work..)

  • well you just diverted to just one line of my previous comment, about nothing easy.

compared to paper, plastic is WAAAY easier.

no i am not talking about mere origami.

my style of paper modelling involves software tinkering, photoshop stuff, for textures, colour etc.

card cutting, folding, trimming, rolling, shaping gluing, even scratchbuilding.

    buildin own canopy.

using several times more techniques that what you need to build plastic.

  • Yes, I just admitted to that.. plastic is easier.. then again, anything is as easy or as hard as you like it to be..

But that's why I won't do paper.. I haven't got the time or the patience to fiddle aroound with all that, to be honest!! :)

Paper obviously gives you the option to create something unique of your own, as you can print the patterns and whatever else directly to the paper, and that gives unlimited options. I appreciate all that!! Trust me..

..but it just isn't for me.. :)

  • hmm it may not be for you..

i understand, but why not give it a go?

    i mean a basic model?

i am in process here of improving my V-22 with some bits of paper "cockpit clutter".

p.s. got any scans of paperwork that should be in cockpits of airplanes?

some modelers say they cant make the v-22 nacelles movable, but watch me, lol!!

  • and you besmall paper modelers just because of the medium?

    come one sir.

there are things you can do with paper that you cant with plastic.

often you can make more realistic models with less materials, but more skill.

paper has its limits, but has its niceties you know.

why not go check our zealot website, especially look for username dhanners.

    see his 1/96 shuttle.

    yeah paper.

  • Oh no, I certainly don't besmall any kind of modelling.. have built a few things in card and paper before, and it is more work doing that than it is building plastic kits.. I have to admit! Especially to get it to look good.. :)

That's why I stick to plastic.. :) As for expanding, I'm quite happy doing what I'm doing, but I enjoy the work and skill of others who do build RC planes and the like.. just don't want to go there myself, as my space and budget is very limited.. :)

  • forgive me for giving that bad assumption sir hehe..

    well, lets just model away!!!!

  • By the way, judging by the comments on your channel, you seem to have gathered quite a 'fan-club'.. :) :) Still, I subbed and hope to see some more good fly simulator game videos whenever you post any.. :)

  • I think you do very nicely...me, I'd do that kit in a couple hours mainly because I've no patience and not because I'm a hotshot model maker so I look at vids and enjoy them...myhuxpo makes great tutorials and shows from Norway. :)

  • Yeah, and people watching this video: Before you get ready to build one of these things, make sure you have NOTHING to do. These things take every ounce of model building you got.

  • and same for basicmodelling from whose vids I met up with the Norwegian guy...that makes youtube such an interesting place because you never know whose vid will be listed as related :)

  • Yes, you end up meeting all sorts on YouTube... :)

  • so true; I met up with that Hollander, Wildebeest or something like that...I think his given name was Toivo. He had this thing for chickens and bananas, but we all have our foibles and he's a good model maker so that's what really counts, eh? :)

  • ..but who's counting? :)

  • counting chickens or bananas?...that is the mystery:)

  • Banickens.. Chinanas.. let's call the whole thing.. Fred!

  • how 'bout Toivo?

  • voine, voine.. pickupa volvotaxi ja cosmeticsurgerixa!! Hotdoxi..

  • sure ting...and to maddensomething, I was born about 450 miles nortwest of Toronto and we talk Canadian too for sure :)

  • You talk?

  • Nice entry.. :) Your request has been duly noted.. :)

  • I am in love with Tamiya :) Really good kits (probably the 100th time I am saying it)

  • Yeah, I've only built one of them, but Tamiya makes excellent kits. (I do like Trumpeter and Acedemy as well.)

  • are u canadian

  • ???

  • I just sent you a PM with a link re. the 'JayHawk'.. :)

  • Any model will do, as far as I'm concerned.. but a 48 scale 'Spit' would be nice.. :) :) Or some 35 scale armour.. I've heard of the Tamiya Zero, it is supposed to be very good.. I don't do much in 48, but now I'm sorely tempted!! I'll probably get round to building the Academy 1/48 T-33 before too long though.. saw a very nice T-33 in Helsingor, Denmark, less than a year ago.. I took a lot of photos of it, all bar the cock-pit interior, as there were no ladder.. :)

  • Yeah, I added alot of modifications in my Zero cockpit as well. I'm trying to find an HH-60 Jayhawk, or at least the Coast Guard decals to add to a Blackhawk.

  • HobbyBoss will release a Sikorsky HH-60J Jayhawk in 1/72 scale sometime this year, I believe.. Keep an eye out for it!! :)
