Kubrick is as good as an artist can be without faith and I have difficulty calling Kubrick an artist - he was more of a brilliant craftsman. Tarkovksy was the Bach of cinema and was an artist. Kubrick is great but cannot hold a candle to Tarkovsky.
Tarkovsky . How do these people get to be taken so seriously. Kubrick yes and for ever but Tarkovsky and his penchant for Bergmanesque riddles ...these r not movies u want to watch again & again. The Sacrifice is beautiful beyond almost anyting i can think of .Look who da cinematographer is and its ideas r rendered superbly.Mirror,Stalker,Ivan is a favorite but I thinkn he is overrated.
does anyone know about the music used in this trailer, it's not in the film, more like popular music especially right at the beginning and at the end of the trailer? thanks.
The obvious comparison is between Solaris and 2001. More specifically their pension for epic films with stunning cinematography and slow pacing. Although I'm aware that Tarkovsky disliked Kubrick's films (believing them to be too impersonal), I think the comparison stands nonetheless. I personally prefer Kubrick to Tarkovsky, but they're two fine filmmakers regardless.
Absolutely beautiful film! This was Tarkovsky's first & only Italian film he've worked on. Tops with ANDREI RUBLEV, SOLARIS, STALKER, & THE SCARIFICE, in which they are on my list (top 5 favorite Tarkovsky films). It's really odd that Tarkovsky made his last 2 films outside of Russia (this in Italy & THE SCARIFICE in Sweden), but he somewhat shined a light in arthouse cinema. Great filmmaker, love him & his works.

An absurd trailer - "a loony." Only in America could Tarkovsky be reduced to a clumsy narrative.
The music is Peter Gabriel, btw. From the "Passion" ost.

@Topophobia Most of us Americans, I am sorry to say, are a linguistically clumsy people :P

Horrible narration. Utterly unbecoming a trailer (even an American trailer) to a film by the Russian Kubrick.

@tabber87 Russian Kubrick? They're so different, I don't know why you would compare them.

@tabber87comparing kubrick with tarkovsky is like comparing britney spears to mozart :P

@stivntouzos more like beethoven to mozart. Surly you must be joking. Stanley Kubrick is one of the greatest director ever.
