  • We played part of this for our marching band show. It was very easy to play the notes it but it was another thing to play it well.

  • the girl at 4:35 playing the oboe solo sounded really good! good job guys.

  • I really don't care anymore about this song i do harder music now (lot harder)

  • My freshman band is playing this, its really hard sense were such a big band and have to practice in separate groups then have one rehearsal to put it all together. Everyone on the 32 notes (1st clarinet, flute, and 1st trumpet I think) are having a difficult time with those too. This band preforms it really well, I hope my band will do just as well.

  • Our eighth grade band is playing this and it's a great song, it takes a Lot of endurance needed though

  • srry

  • Sorry I didn't realize

  • its not about how hard a piece of music is its about how well it is performed, a song may be easy to play but hard to perform well with proper phrasing and blending of the different sections

  • We have to play a song called Twist of Fate by Larry Clark, you can go to his website and find it no links are allowed on the post sorry

  • Sorry i didn't mean it that way we have to play 2 songs that are really hard its easy compared to them ill give the link to one of them

  • Our middle school band is playing that it is so easy

We have to move on to real high school music now though

  • @agent7039pie it's not easy at all :( I think out of all our performances, this is the one we did worse in. just because it's so hard to keep tempo on such a hard song when clarinets are playing runs throughout the middle of the piece. also, everyone was out of tune lols

  • @agent7039pie I'm sorry, you must be terribly confused. Yes, the notes and rhythems are for the most part easy, but the song itsself is by no means easy. A song like this takes passion to sound good, and I have trouble believing any middle school band as a whole could even bear the thought of passion. Most of them will drop out before highschool, I guarantee it.

  • @agent7039pie The difficulty of a piece can not be measured by how easy the notes are. It is not "easy" to make this piece sound as beautiful, emotional and powerful as it can. It is a beautiful composition by Samuel Hazo, and provides a challenge to musicians in the area of musicality and creative/emotional expression -- there are far too many 8th grade plus musicians who have virtuosic technical skill, yet struggle to play with the emotion that is required to truly make music.

  • @agent7039pie its kind of easy... but when you get the notes down, you have to worry about making it musical and blending and dynamics. otherwise its boreing if you dont.

    very pretty piece though ^-^

  • our high school concert band just played this for large group contest =) it is listed under "shadows" if anyone wants to check it out, but you might have to just search for benson high school MN if it does't come right away. i love this song so much. I get goosebumps everytime i listen to it, without fail. there is an incredible amount of emotion.

  • Splendid performance of a very moving piece!

  • I was in the SC All State band that performed the world premiere of this song conducted by Mr. Hazo himself

I will never forget that performance ever

  • Love the Oboe solo at 4:34!

    Oboes FTW!

  • Personaly, i liked Solas Ane by Hazo a tiny bit more then this. Either way, the peice is still quite nice to listen to and even better to play. Good Job.

  • This is beautiful!!! Well played!!! Hazo is by far my favorite composer!!!

  • I remember playing this. It was my favorite piece that year

  • My freshman band is playing this song this year, but theres a problem, 2 of the alto saxes think there so "funny" and laugh around near the ending

  • What a fantastic piece. Very nice band; you sound great! Piccolo player is a little off on higher notes but she plays beautifully with a nice tone! :) Some of the people that commented were one of the first to perform this live?! So lucky! I'm playing the flute part in this piece with my high school's top band for a VMEA conference. Thank you for sharing! 8D

  • @wowitsmekate

wow me to im playing it at VMEA with my band plus Samuel Hazo is conducting it.

  • @TheWolfer90 Oh and yes Hazo conducting. That was cool.

  • Beautifully performed. This song holds so much power and emotion. It's amazing.

  • nicely done

  • I played trumpet in this recording, good year for Top Band.

  • im in this band playing this piece. from what i remember we were the second ever band to ever play this piece live. it is a really beautiful piece

  • Great piece. About time I found a recording of it since hearing it at SC all state 2 years ago at the premiere by Sam Hazo.
