  • This is a sketch off Jam right?

  • i don't understand you guys.. has Gary pissed into your serials or something? this is very insightful view on some of the most original, inspiring and psychedelic music made today. Get a grip.

  • Equinox Channel 4 TV

  • there's nothing wrong with being a douche.

  • what a knob head. fucking MORON.

  • @trevorgarford Thanks for your input Trev, you sure have mastered "beauty in language". I especially like the way you saved all the capital letters for the ending. Subversive wordsmith that you are.

  • ahhh good ol gary....still a dickhead

  • Ahh..

all you young bucks making negative comments about a group that has been around longer than some of you. The true sound connoisseur understands what he is saying and understands where he is coming from. Yage are persons who truly want to experiment and evolve. Unlike majority of modern music who don't really understand the purpose of sound. I think he has the right to act the way he is acting. After all, he is a part of one of the most influential groups of our time.

  • @stabl1057 young bucks???? i was into em when they made stakker humanoid i had all their music but gary still is a knob

  • Great music obvs. But this guy is some major douchbag.

  • Man, he had alot of anger inside of him, understandably, with society being so frustratingly oblivious. I love the music, and have for 15+ yrs. I hope he's mellowed out and found peace in his now older age. I, myself, was very much off-put and angry with the world when I was younger, and it caused me alot of pain. Luckily, I have learned my lesson and let the water of life roll off my back these days.

  • @everelusive9 hes a hippy now so i think so

  • sometimes i think about little chickens

  • It's often that the creative "geniuses" (or whatever) come across to the "normals" as arrogant or pretentious, because the "normals" are usually lame, smallminded fuctards. I think the fans who understand their music really get his message.

  • @bubblebooth I AGREE

  • Gary Cobain. It's amazing what recovering from lead poisoning can do. He obviously realised what a pretentious wanker he was. Now records under the Amorphous Androgynous moniker (one of Noel gallagher's favourites)

  • Nah, he's still pretentious as ever! But he and Dougans are still visionary geniuses

  • Christ! Christ! Christ! What a wanker!

  • Or is that I was jealous then and ten years of pent up frustration later, still am?

  • Sometimes when I have the opportunity to dream I daydream I dream like this.

  • what is the track when that girl is screaming in the park? 0:15 sec...please I wanna know

  • i think garys been locked in a room 2 long hes fuckin nuts but cool ha ha

  • Fell asleep last week at a party in Surrey and woke to find Tim Westwood rimming me. Getting rimmed by Tim westwood...the irony.

  • It is interesting that he comments: "I'm trying to fight the whole history of music. It seems like I'm losing." Actually he is joining quite a tradition dating back to Gregorian chant and continued through today in Western music--music and sounds have been borrowed and recycled for centuries.

What he is fighting against is more modern tendencies in capitalist societies who value privatization and ownership and wealth. They even want to own sounds!

  • @DerangedRanger1 Because he's clearly a pretentious nob. Good tunes though..

  • @MrSquareroots I don't think we can judge from this video clip whether he is "pretentious" or not. Clearly this has been edited and presented in a way that we can't see if the interviewer might be an ass or not. Maybe s/he asked questions or set a tone that wasn't so friendly. Rather than judge what you think his personality might be like based on this video only, you might do better to consider the words he says - they are quite interesting. Unless you know him personally, its not fair.

  • @DerangedRanger1 Come on man. This is a promo video by them is it not? In which case they would of been happy with it. Plus, even if it were edited badly, the level of douchiness is at sound dangerously high levels I stand by what i said anyway. Jeeeeeeez i mean just listen to what he says...multi-headed individual ya know?

  • @MrSquareroots Even if that is true, do you really think that FSOL is control of their own promo or would it be in the control of his recording company? Are you involved with the music business at all?

But let's suppose you are right. Are you so naive that you believe advertisements to be full of truths? It could be merely an act to shape the public's impression of FSOL and not a representation of his true character. I anxiously await your response.

  • @DerangedRanger1

    Spot on!

  • @LDNURECS LDNURECS, there are those that make the argument that today's music copyright practices are racists (because they force styles like hip hop to change). But if that were completely true then FSOL wouldn't be affected. That being said, authors certainly quote and cite each other when they write and they put the references in footnotes. Why can't musicians do that too? John Oswald tried that and was forced to destroy his recordings - even though he wasn't selling them!!!

  • @DerangedRanger1 interesting.

  • Wow. Thanks for posting this. FSOL has been one of my favorites for a long time - I first heard about them in the 80s but I really started liking them a lot in the early 90s. But I've never seen what they look like or heard what they say. What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that musicians have, for a long time, recycled sounds or made references to other music (the 19th century is full of it! See C. Reynolds, "Motives for Allusion".) I like the way he defends it in techno here!

  • This is awesome

  • Opinion FAIL

  • does anyone knows which plugin/programm shown @ 0:35?

  • Did anyone respond?

  • did anyone answer?

  • Nice upload brings me back i remember watching this on channel 4 - Equinox was always interesting

  • I love the music of FSOL so much. But this guy is a smug twat. On a Galactic scale.

  • Maybe you just don't understand what he is saying. Try reading it in another way. Also consider the interviewer might have been an asshole.

  • Amazing band.

  • The Prodigy are ripping these guys off with the young girl in their latest video.

  • The word genius is over used, but these guys here really were cutting the edge.

  • FSOL = better than sex.

  • anybody know which is this track at 15 second with the girl crying?

  • Genius...pure genius

  • He reminds me of Alan Partridge.

    FSOL is immense!

  • ...reminds me of Nathan Barley, Lol! Jus Kiddin'... iLove FSOL ...

  • i own every album he made and i have a few singles. i buyed my 1st in the 90s when i heard his interview on radio nottingham in the 90s

His music makes you realize life! And some times we tune into another way of looking at our whole world.

He gives the impression that dimensions and the secrets of life! are just there!

  • Damn, if i made music like that I would be a little bit proud too. People don't really get how complex it really is, in many ways.

Nothing sounds like it, and probably never will. It's really cold sometimes, but delivers such incredible, almost supernatural moments.

  • destiny foreteller, listen again and think of the internet, "makes us addicted"

  • Gaz's voice seems a fair bit higher these days...

  • I remember watching this as a 14 y old and being completely blown away!

I love the way the guy from FSOL is sooo soo intense as an artist.

but christ they've made some fuckin great music.

    Nice one for uploading!

pls upload rest of programme if u have it.

    thanks

    Rennie

  • great interview

  • That should have been "not disparaging". It would have been an obvious mistake, taken in context with the rest of the post, and also with the previous posts. I guess spelling nazis' wouldn't notice that. You don't have to respond. No one is forcing you, or cares particularly. Youtube opinions are some of the worst idiocy on teh interwebs, and some wanker policing spelling on them is an even bigger idiocy.

  • probably never did acid on its own, lol!

  • did you? I wouldn't dare :)

  • Definite proof that if you do enough acid, you will start believing anything you say! You can't imagine Brian Eno or Autechre talking up Ego like that. Some great sonic moments in their past though, I'll give them that.

  • Allegedley he never did acid - its such an enigma!!!!!!!!!

  • Yage... you don't get it, FSOL that is.

  • Oh, I got FSOL alright. All the way from Stakker and Eurotekno, up until they went psychadelic. Then I decided to get off that train. I'm disparaging their musical accomplishments, but boy, that's some nauseating overly-pretentious verbage spewing out of his porcelein cake-hole. I think he might be high from the smell of his own bullsh!t.

  • I'm not going to continue responding to a person who said "up until they went psychadelic".. "up until" and psychedelic is spelled wrong you twat. Your disparaging their accomplishments? Ha ha.. and there you are rattling off about Gaz being pretentious.

  • "Your" should be "You're" ;-P

  • Ha ha.. ah the irony.

  • Can we have them back please?

  • Gary was an insufferable, pretentious twat back then, but damn was he a genius.

  • Sometimes Progression depends upon Unreasonable Men with healthy egos. I think Gary shows his humility when he says- "its a vry very cheap way of making yourself look anything but the truth....cosmopolitan..... multi-headed". Its also worth noting he was dying of Mercury poisoning with acute symptoms allegedley. And besides -are any of us so perfect? Would we ant to be?

  • Is the Track playing in the Background from "Lifeforms"?

  • Never realized what a bell end he was! Q is one of my fav tunes to this day.

  • Your a bell end, a gay bell end.

  • They never made a bad piece of music.. Great band...

  • WOW

  • Feeling a bit self important area we? Sheesh. I liked Dead Cities.

  • whats the song playing in this video? please respond to my account. thanks

  • Space songs!! Lifeforms it's my favourite FSOL Album but ISDN it's not bad, it's great. Amazing

  • decent post - I love Lifeforms...its a soundscape. Quality album and I wack it on as and when as it stands the test of time.

  • this is where the rave scene got scary to me - geeks with machines no longer able to see outside the fantasy world they've created. It's a slippery slope, fellas! not really dance music anymore, just studio boffin behaviour on shitloads of drugs. Look at him compared to the interview from a couple of years earlier.

  • too bad nowadays they play that Doors-like hippie shit

  • yeah i recall watching this , May 1995

  • I think he might take drugs....

  • Yeah, maybe :-P

  • Say what you want about Gaz Cobain - FSOL are fucking legends, the lot of them.

  • Early use of lsystems and particle effects in music vids. They were cutting edge.

But the real genius of fsol was in the 'spaces' they created with sound. Very influential stuff.

  • "if we can make people go impotent, we r doing something" genius!!!

  • great to see him talking. check him out on myspace

  • damn I need a new electronic album of them it's been a while!

  • Always ahead of their time, FSOL keeps it real.

  • Nice to see an interview from back in the day, looking back they were well ahead of there time back then.

  • Original!

  • i think it was from a tv show called equinox 'rave new world'

  • this video changed my life

  • fucking die SonofCastille

  • i've always believed that their music is brilliant, but i've never expected them to be nice guys, even if that would be a bonus

  • what a pompus ass! This is the same old doper stuff recycled over and over!

  • I saw this when it was first broadcast and thought it was good to hear someone with something to say for himself rather than the usual false modesty crap. It's also worth remembering that he was suffering from mercury poisoning at the time.

  • they are genius

  • FUCK YEAH ISDN IS BADASS

  • this

  • excellent

  • Great video!

  • Thanks to the person who posted this.

  • Fantastics.
