I believe some Native American tribes were accepting of homosexuality, until us crackas came along. :)
The people arguing that gay marriage should be banned don't have a real argument. Reason WILL prevail, and prop. 8 WILL be overturned. They never actually had a right to ban it. It's not a "popular opinion" issue. It's a human rights issue. Oppression is oppression, no matter what the majority says!
Go Micheal! Woot woot! mattereich, you shouldn't be talking like that if you don't know how its like for others. America is a free country. Have you ever experienced being homo before?
Are you kidding me!!! YES ON PROP 8!!! its not that hard to understand... regardless of what the bible says. your an idiot. NO you DO NOT have the right. you already have all the other rights other than marriage. keep it traditional. whether you like it or not you came from a man and a woman! can a ask you a question... whats next marriage between a man and a dog or what? you may think its retarded to say but GAY MARRIAGE is retarded. YES ON PROPOSITION 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well first, I'm not an idiot. Second, no, gay people don't have the same rights. Third, man and a dog... THAT is idiotic.
I doubt you watched the whole video. By the way, grow up. You'll influence far more people by not being such an asshole when you talk to them. Lots of luck.
haha you are idiotic!!lol no i didnt finish this video because i couldn't stomach it!! idk why you guys keep protesting we already won.... idk why thats so hard to understand!!
hahahahahahaha ok good one. dont worry ill stay far away and im pretty sure that sane people will too. Oh and dont talk about lds people like you know what we are taught and you know what we believe, because you don't and neither does anyone else!! thanks!!

Thats a retarded example. Gay people only want the same right as you not a different right. If you are allowed to marry a dog then we want the same but thats not the case. Besides we're not worried. The supreme court will overrule this as its so blatently discrimatory.
I realize not everyone will be satisfied and I am speaking my personal opinion but I believe that the best benefit for all is to vote yes the way the laws and proposition are worded at this present time.
Yes actually it will give teachers the liberty to teach about same sex marriage as they "see fit" as being part of marriage, I have already spoken to teachers who state that as it would change the definition of marriage and thus the curriculum of what is taught students as young as 5 and there is no option for parents to "opt out" the ones who have in Massachusetts have even been arrested for non-compliance Ie: not allowing their children to be taught this curriculum.
No actually, children DON'T learn about marriage in kindergarten. We live in California with a different system of education. As someone who works in the public school system, I know that there isn't a topic about marriage, not even in Health. There are so many things taught in school that christians and LDS don't agree with. At least, there are many private schools and even home school that let YOU train your child in the way they should go so that they won't depart from it.
That is just the problem it HAS been happening in Massachusetts and you are correct private schooling or home schooling are the only other alternatives. Unfortunately not everyone can afford them especially in challenging times as these.
So why does this matter to the California Proposition? Marriage hasn't been taught in public schools here in California (at least, not when I was in school, and I'm a twenty-year-old who has lived in CA my whole life). Why do we need to eliminate a homosexual's right to marry in California based on the school system in Massachusetts?
It already has been taught in SF, CA to 1st graders when a teacher took her class as a "field trip" for her same-sex marriage October 13, 2008. So very recently, she stated that she "felt she was within her parameters" to do this.
The best way to judge what will happen is to observe what has & is happening in other states and countries where same-sex marriage already has been made legal.
There's no agenda. And defeating Prop 8 DOES give equal rights to everyone. Wouldn't it be strange if African Americans were never given the right to vote because someone said "I'm for equal rights for all, not just the African Americans and their agenda."? Voting "No" on Prop 8 doesn't give homosexuals and special rights. It just evens out the playing field for all members of society.
Show your dad the CIVIL *MARRIAGE* ACT of the Commonwealth of Canada. A number of my GLBT friends found it quite interesting when it passed back in 2005. :)
Well, the Supreme Court of California based THEIR decision, as they R EXPECTED 2, upon the state CONSTITUTION! Proposition 22 and anything else from B 4 that goes against your state's Constitution (I love that state BTW!)
OR against the Constitution of the UNITED States, just has 2 "suck it up!"
I agree. I think the CA Supreme Court was doing it's job overturning 22. It's the job of the court to interpret the state constitution and protect it's people from unconstitutional infringment of their rights.
The reason that would effect any religious belief is that force churches to except a belief that is exceptable for same sex marriage. That would be a government abridging or creating a government religion. Just a thought that I had. Even though there is no such thing as separation of church and state, this would not be. No on 8 would not even change any rights that homosexuals have now.
Churches remain unaffected by Prop 8. It doesn't force any church to redefine their doctrines. Ministers won't be forced to marry gay couples if they disagree. Without Prop 8, churches are free to practice any and all beliefs that make them unique. My father is a pastor. Opposing Prop 8 doesn't force him to marry gay couples or rewrite church bylaws, doctrine, or dogma.
It WOULD benefit homosexuals. Finally there will be equal recognition in CA, at least.
They can't be sued for discrimination. And they definitely will not lose any tax exempt status as long as they remain a place of worship. Pastors refuse to perform marriage ceremonies for a number of reasons, one of which can be homosexuality. Religious freedom is protected by the Constitution. No on wants to take that away. Not even homosexuals... some of whom, are very religious, even within the Christian faith.
@PianoMusic37 But then we'll have people marrying animals (even though the state of Washington has no laws against having sex with animals), pedophiles marrying children (even though they are currently allowed to marry, just like other criminals and children as young as sixteen can already marry in certain states) and even mother and son marrying (even though we already allow first cousins to be married in the state of California and all states allow second cousins to be married if they desire.
I dont agree with gay marriage and I dont agree with your life style...HOWEVER, as much as it pains me to say this I do believe that gays should have this very same "human" right. I do not call this a progressive movement, I call this a right to be, to have and to decide of self, a right of belonging to that person whom you love and vise-versa.
I think I should say thanks. I'm sorry it pains you so much to say that. However, I would hope that your "disagreement" with my lifestyle stems from religious sources. To be frank, anything other than religious conviction would prove to be a result of fear and hate. But I appreciate your honesty here and your support, in spite of the trouble it causes you.
The civil rights of those who wish to keep marriage between a man and a woman are in peril. Vote yes on Prop.8 The majority must be free to choose the lifestyle that best identifies them without interferences.
Have I told you how awesome you are lately? :)

i forgot to say civil unions dont give gay people any rights it simply recignizes that you've lived together for a long time and love each other
straight people dont even have to live together to get married
aleezabohm 3 years ago
the points you make are true
plus gay people lose 1138 rights by not having the right to get married
and children of gay people have half the rights of straights couples' kids and these children did nothing wrong to deserve oppression
good job :]

Just because you make valid, truthful and reasonable arguments does not mean you are right.
And, just because you point out all the flawed, misleading and irrational arguments of the other side does not make them wrong.

So you argue that if homosexuals can marry, then you won't be allowed to practice your religion?
How are those two ideas even entangled?

Exactly... the freedom to choose without interference. Prop 8 is one huge interference.
The rights of those who want to keep marriage between a man and woman are not even affected. Nothing changes for heterosexuals.
Don't be surprised when the majority does NOT pass Prop 8.
