I saw it now that it's not an boeing 747SP, the cockpit of boeing 747SP look like that cockpit, i saw that it is 2engines and an boeing 747 have 4engines
Ughhh...I would NOT be too happy to be on that flight! I HATE the way those engines sound. Were they ready to conk out?? Anyway, glad you made it safe!
@figget44 I'm sure you are joking. I'd never fly any type of jet that would lose power because of hail. Fortunately the FAA would never certify such a ridiculous design.
@a090006 I agree.. Sorry but we should not be transparent regarding the comments to avoid "more burocracy" with FAA.. That's why we could not show every thing including the plane prefix..
@DrBPhD He is the happiest guy i meet... In fact he was having real bad time there.... You don't see, You listen, and you are just waiting some major failure and alarms going on..
@boeingLL747 So far we don't know who's responsible for that. In fact they had skills, but we would like to have pilots who had avoided that situation.....
@wye4379 Not sure if they got fired, but the pilot has final say in where he takes plane, if he deemed it dangerous he could have told controller hes changing course due to safety reasons and control cant argue. Hence the words "Pilot in Command"
@esbrabr Sound like the pilots forgot who has the final authority for the flight. I would like to think the captain would be more interested in keeping his passengers out of a storm than in avoiding the paperwork involved in overriding ATC.
@esbrabr I'm sure the ATC's would have to answer for this if an incident occurred. If I were to see hail on my wx radar, I'd be demanding a change of course.
@esbrabr Yeah those pilots needed to exercise emergency authority and deviate against ATC instructions. Controllers have NO final authority over the safety of that aircraft. I had to do it once as an Airline Pilot, controller didn't even seem to mind.
@moebzez Fuckin stupid ass comment. Obviously your have nothing more than a sub-private pilot knowledge of how things work. If every commercial airplane diverted or grounded due to a convective sigmet, no one would get anywhere. Get a life and quit trying to pretend to be a real pilot. Fuckin stupid ass poser.
@biggestMetallicAfan "Sometimes the weather can be worst than you can believe, but sometimes you just gotta go through." Not correct and apparently the philosophy of the PIC. I can only assume both pilots lost their jobs. They really were fortunate if the only damage was the nose. Would like to have seen the leading edges of the wings and elevator and the engine's turbine blades. The sound inside that aircraft must have been incredibly violent.
@TheTemest Yes i know... i have flown through some pretty serious shit in my career, fortunately nothing as bad as this hail.
But yes any damage to the aircraft could have been avoided, the PIC should have seen and decided to either wait to land, or divert, i don't have the knowledge of an Captain though, as im only an FO.
@TheTemest No it is not, i was in jump seat on route from KSLC to KLAX, i wasn't flying, and FYI not all of those pics are mine, only about a quarter of them are.
Does this happen every time a plane goes through a rain cloud? in other words takeoffs and landings at raining conditions. Note: if my knowledge is accurate hail is always present in all rain clouds, most of the time we don't see it because it melts before it reaches ground, am I right?
Ararara78, What? What if conditions get worse? Are you even a pilot? If so, one of the first things you should have learned is the safest thing to do is a 180 - back to where you weren't in the storm, icing conditions or turbulence.
Unlike lightning, hail can actually cause damage to the aircraft. Most aircraft that travel through hail of any moderate size are grounded until damaged flight surfaces and fuselage skin can be replaced. Ice striking aluminum at 250 miles per hour isn't pretty. I don't think any pilot would intentional travel through hail, but during an approach system likes this can spring up with little warning.
ooooo no no no hahaha I have nerves but I'd be flippin out on the inside!!!!!!
