It's a continental baritone which is a cylindrical-conical bore hybrid that places it somewhere between a true British-bore baritone and a euphonium. A baritone has a predominately cylindrical bore while a euphonium has a conical bore meaning its tubing expands in size gradually throughout the horn giving it a softer sound.
A continental baritone is distinguishable by the bell-front and canted-valve design and is a hybrid of the two bore designs.
Is there a special name for baritones with a "crooked" bell like that? We have one at my school and my friend seems to think it's a marching baritone. I've recently seen a marching baritone and it doesn't look like that.
Was there any need to be insulting, just because your friend plays the same instrument in the video it dosen't make it a baritone, i have been playing baritone for 20 years and all the ones ive seen being played by other players looked nothing like that.
Yes it's an F.E. Olds & Sons baritone - this video's the only thing I have to remember it by as I sold it on Ebay (as my Ebay name: MichaelD4000) to a guy who calls himself dukelax80. Nice fellow who makes cool periodic tables - His plan was to restore the horn to its former glory.
i thought that was an olds... ive got a 1956 olds studio model that was my grandfathers.... its white and yellow gold plated but im a little unsure about refinishing it because it might ruin the tone... they are great horns... i only have to oil my valves about once a month
I quit playing about two years ago.. Had to give my baritone away.. no I regret !! :( But I still have the skills (I hope... :P )
