  • who watches the news anymore... xD

  • This is an outstanding story and, more importantly, an outstanding Sailor! It is hard nowadays to find a story about a serviceman or servicewoman doing something good. BZ Shipmate! Kitty Hawk Vet 1996-2000. GO NAVY!!!

  • Thank you for sharing that.

  • Thank you Mr.Phillip. You are Hero!

  • Finally some great public representation of the U.S. Navy inside Japan. I lived in Atsugi for 5 and 1/2 years and nothing, but bad publicity made it to the populus. Thanks for displaying the United States Navy in it's true professionalism!!!

  • hello my name is phillip simmons and yes that is me in the movie i did not think i would see myself on youtube. well i left yokosuka with the kitty hawk and i am now in atsugi japan and i would to say thank you to everyone

  • An American hero you are. Thank you sir for your service to our nation. As you can read by the comments here, people in Japan are very appreciative. I received numerous messages from people in Japan in gratitude for your heroic action. Thank you for your excellent representation of our nation.

  • It must be an enormous source of pride for you to know you are directly responsible for another human being alive because of you. Not only did you save this man, you spared his family the grief they would have experience had you not been there.

  • I live in yokosuka and am japanese.

thank you phillip you are brave !

also thank you texas daddy !

  • Thank you Seaman Simmons for your service to our great country and for representing your country so gallantly and with such courage. This is truely an inspiring story. God bless and keep you safe.

  • Hello Simmons-san, I saw your comment and I just wanted to say thank you. You have the courage of a Samurai. I hope I will be able to do the same if I were to come across the same situation. My tremendous respect for you.

  • hell my name is phillip simmons and yes that is me in the movie i did not think i would see myself on youtube. well i left yokosuka with the kitty hawk and i am now in atsugi japan and i would to say thank you to everyone

  • Thank you.

  • I haven't heard about this Shipmate's courageous deed, yet there was a similar action by a civilian in New York, or New Jersey which was on CBS News. Media is always biased. Shows such as on Fox News claim to be fair, unbiased, "No-spin", etc. and yet, they always cater to the "right-wing" complaining about every democratic/liberal action and praising how better the republican/conservative side is. Believe nothing you here and half of what you see.

  • not meaning to side with the left or right, as there are shows that cater to each. I only mean that ALL media is unfair.

  • If that's the case, it's only ONE station, whereas the Repub/Conservitatives get BAD coverage on EVERY OTHER news outlet....never, not one positive word.

  • The Mr.Phillip Simmons, we Japanese thanks for your courageous action.

Mr.PropagandaBuster, we Japanese thank for having taken up this courageous action.

However, unfortunately this courageous action is not known widely in Japan. There is little news of the Japanese mass communication.

The Japanese mass communication reports the evil deed of the US soldier greatly, but reports the evil deed of a Chinese and the Korean small.

    The Japanese mass communication rots.

  • We in the USA also have the same bad news media (mass communications). It seems like both our nations could use a revolution in our news media.

  • It's not just the civilian Media. The military seems to pick and choose which soldiers, sailor, airman or marine is called a "Hero" I sometimes think it's a matter of Politics rather than the act itself. In my time in the military I saw many act's of true heroism that went unnoticed because the person involved was not the right "Type" of soldier or they did not know the right officers. Just like most things it's not what you do but who you know. Just look at John McCain. He's no Hero. Yet.......

  • Great video..thanks for pointing out the good some sailors do. I am married to a sailor and have moved and moved and moved. We in fact just arrived in Japan last night, myself and my son for a 2-3 year stay here as their ship replaces the kitty hawk. It's just nice to hear of some good some of these sailors do instead of focusing on the negative because they are not all that way.

  • Mr.Phillip Simmons

The Japanese doesn't forget your courage.

The maximum thanks are lifted up.

  • Japanese mass communications have no reaction to this good news....I didn't know this news.

I'd like to say thank you to this brave sailor.

  • I remember this happening, but I don't remember the publicity thing by the media :-/.

  • Thank you for reply, Mr.PropagandaBuster and Mr.MomOfSailorOnUSSKH!

Congratulations, Mr.MomOfSailorOnUSSKH. I hope Mr.MomOfSailorOnUSSKH's son and his fiance will be happy, hope you will enjoy traveling in Japan!

BTW, my father respect USA so much, he has always taught to me USA gave so much aid(foods and money) to Japan after WW2 though Japan and USA fought. He thinks USA is the greatest and the most respectable country. There are many Japanese who think so in Japan, therefor we love USA!

  • Thank you very much for the kind words you wrote about America.

  • Thank you very much, you are so kind. My uncle was a Lt. Col in the Airforce stationed in Japan as well. He really loved it there. When I was a little girl he send me a kimono to wear. Japan has really contributed to the culture in the USA as well. We have so many wonderful things from Japan like the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco. It is nice that our two countries are such great allies. God bless your family, and hope you have a lovely life.

  • Ms.MomOfSailorOnUSSKH.

I'm very happy to hear that.

Actually, I have a experience of homestay in L.A. for 2months when I was a university student during summer vacation.

It was my first experience to go abroad, I was so afraid. lol

However, it was so great time!

My hostfamily was so kind, especially the son was really kind. He took me to many good places, especially the experience of paint ball game in Yosemite National Park was so impressed me.

After that, I've really loved USA!

  • Please tell your uncle that his and his colleagues' contribution to the security in and around Japan is greatly appreciated by many Japanese.

  • And your son, of course.

  • Thank you! I'll let him know, he will be thrilled. My uncle unfortunately passed away a couple years ago in Hawaii. He lived a full life.

  • Thank you very much. My son loves it in Japan and has extended to stay a few more years. His fiance is Japanese and has a great job as an interpreter for a German Company. She is so bright and beautiful! So sweet and polite, and I'm glad they are going to get married! We absolutely love her as our own daughter. My son, even before meeting his sweetheart, would travel to very interesting cultural spots in Japan. He is learning Japanese too.

  • I wanna thank to Mr.Phillip Simmons. I went to YOSHINOYA to eat GYU-DON(BEEF ON RICE) after I watched this video because YOSHINOYA serve only American beef! They have never used other beef because they think the quality of American beef is the best.

    We most Japanese think so!

By the way, I will never eat Aussie beef because it is a kind of garbage.lol

    American beef is the best!

  • Thank you partner. We in Texas love to hear that about American beef.

  • You know, We Japanese consumers are very picky about food, especially imported one. Our primary concern is not its price but its taste and safety. It might be said we are the most difficult customers for you in the world. With all this, we accepted US beef. Do you know what does this mean? Just for our alliance? No way. That does mean we recognize the US inspection system on beef is trustworthy, and thus US beef is safe as long as the US government guarantee its safety.

  • Thank you for the comment and your trust. Perhaps you may want to post the above comment on my video about Korean protest of USA beef.

  • Thank you, but I do hear that Japanese beef is very tender because the farmers massage the beef. I think Japanese meat is extremely excellent as well. My son is on the USS Kitty Hawk. He is currently at sea, and I'm packing him a couple boxes of goodies and treats in his care packages. I know my son loves it in Japan, he extended for a few years longer. His fiance is Japanese, and she is so beautiful, sweet and intelligent. We just adore her! I am hoping to go to Japan for their wedding.

  • Thank you for you and your son's service to our nation. I can only enjoy the security and freedom I have becuase of brave men and women as your son. God bless him, you, your family, and your soon to be expanded family.

  • Thank you for recognizing that. I really do miss him, but he loves it in Japan. Even before he met his Japanese fiance, he would go by train to see temples and go for hikes all over Japan. He loves learning about the culture there. His lady is very sweet, and kind. She is also very beautiful and very intelligent. She will make a good wife and mother to my future grandchildren. I am very proud that she will be coming to my family, as we already think of her as a daughter.

  • Today, U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk left her home port of Yokosuka for Hawaii, ending its nearly 10-year mission in Japan.

The U.S. military will replace the Kitty Hawk, the Navy's last conventional fuel-powered carrier, with the nuclear-powered George Washington in August.

In this news, Japanese News medias repeated negative words to add supplementary information about Kitty Hawk,

but never reported about the courageous act of Seaman Phillip Simmons, crew of Kitty Hawk.

  • I knew this news by the Internet news other than USFJ.

Therefore, it is very regrettable because it was thought that he was a hero in the

    US media.

  • Unfortunately, he is ignored by japanese people also. Nobody knows about it in Japan.

  • This is a heroic action. He couldn't have been run over by the train if he had stayed in the lane a little bit late. Praise for his bravity!

  • I am Japanese, but I didn't know about it!

He has to be a Korean or Chinese in order for the incident to be on the news!

  • Communist China insists that Tibet is a part of China and also Taiwan.

Tibet ware invaded and occupied by China, but Taiwan is not, because Kitty Hawk can not go to beside of Tibet.

The crews of Kitty Hawk save lives using several ways.

So medias controlled by pro-communists hate Kitty Hawk and her crew.

  • Isotoma:

The Taiwan issue is a product of the Chinese civil war. Speaking of invasion, I'm sure you all remembered who colonized Taiwan. lol

  • Koxinga?

  • No not really. Koxinga fought the Dutch colonizer.

I was talking about Japanese people colonizing Taiwan =.=....

  • Was he a native Taiwanese? Koxinga?

  • No, Koxinga was half Chinese half Japanese. His dad was Chinese his mother was Japanese.

  • That's right. Koxinga was not fighting to liberate his motherland Taiwan. He emigrated to Taiwan to gain a strategic foothold for competing Daicing gurun.

  • The media just doesn`t consider the story of seaman Phillip Simmons` heroic action as worthy enough to milk it for all it`s worth as it wouldn`t sell like Abu Ghraib prison stories do.

I pays to check the world news from all angles including the net as i do to find the worthwhile news.

  • a person did good, and he didnt get the respect, attention and rewards he deserves. i guess that is y the moral values r decreasing all over the world. it also explains y some ppl do really bad things just for the fame. good = ignored. bad = attention. really bad = fame.

  • Japanese Medea reports only the bad place of the U.S.Forces.

    They are not fair.

  • Thank you for the USFJ website. I just read the article about Phillip Simmons on that website.

  • Good post PB, that sailor deserves recognition for his bravery. thank God for people like him.

  • I agree there is a threshold, that being: good news about the USA military gets ignored. While bad news about the USA military is front page news.

  • The Japanese media didn't report his brave action. They dislike U.S. forces!

But many Japanese thanks for his brave action.

  • Yes I have been told by many people in Japan that the Japanese news media is as left-wing as the USA news media. However it is disgraceful how the USA news media ignores such men as this brave seaman.

  • USMC crime rate is far below the average crime rate in US or even below the all crimes commited by Japanese in Japan. Actually USMC is very disciplined but the News Media even in Japan want to creat own story..

    Japanese News Media

    Asahi = Left

    Mainichi, Yomiuri = Right

    Sankei = far right

What a braved individual, this Seaman is more than disciplined, deserves to be praised and recognised!!

  • Mainichi = Right?!

    It's Joke?

  • If he had raped a teenage girl the US media would've have a feild day with him.
