  • T. chloromera can be a little skittish but will respond to finger snapping. This is how I coaxed this one to crawl on to my net and subsequently on to my hand and continue to call!

  • @epb471 how do you time the snaps. i can never catch theese as adults. the call about 1 or 2 times then they go to the next tree? i didnt think finger snaps worked on most tibicens exept dorsatus

  • @grungeguy83 Wait to the end of the call and snap your fingers. It may take a few times. If it works, the calling cicada will begin to respond with wing flicks. The faster the tempo the better the response.

  • @epb471 i will have to try this next year. finger snaps do well with dorsatus and tredecims well. i use my mouth to coax linnei and pruinosus and pronotalis. if you can bare to do it in public it is very usefull but rather odd lol. dorsatus realy respond to this method and you can trigger a group of 15 males to call by making a loud hum vibro with your mouth

  • I love the way T. chloromera is not shy about singing. Any other Tibicen won't call if you're within 20 yards of them.

  • Awesome footage!!

  • @wonderwallmusic Thank you!
