  • Perfect fly water!

  • @louisfriendhastaste there is some great fly water for Chums all through the Fraser valley and we just finished many succesful days fly fishing with clients for Chums. Checkout our Facebook page at facebook dot com/VancouverFishingGuides

  • what bait/lure did u use

  • @crankbaity we fish jigs a lot

  • nice vid..and nice song too.....oh and yeah.haha..nice fishing as well...keep the fun up...

  • Sure looked like a snagged fish to me. Nobody plays a mouth-hooked fish that way. Notice that they didn't show a close-up of it being landed? The camera cut to him holding up the fish right away.

I'm not against accidental snagging, but seems odd for a fishing charter to run this video.

  • @Georooney

old french men with weak arms take a long time to play fresh hard fighting chum!

It is VERY clear looking at the fish near the end of the battle that it is hooked in the mouth, and if you freeze the last few frames before the holding pic it is proof. Short Float fishing with dead drifted jigs has yielded thousands of hookups over the years with only 1 foul hookup and that was in the lower jaw!

Are you working for my competition? Its a lame comment!

  • @Georooney

    oh, yes,

you are not against accidental snagging!! Great!!

how could you be against it anyways? I mean how could you control that??

  • @Georooney yeah man chums fight in such a manner that people always think they're snagged, its because the don't fight with the jumps and quick runs of the other salmon species, they just hold the current hard and never give up

  • Hey im going fishing this weekend i was wondering what i could use?

i know everyone says jigs but what color? what size?

also spinnners, what colors? what brands?

i need some help here pleae

im going in a slow moving clear river this week what should i use?

  • Great vid. what kind of rod r u using and what lenght?

  • it says dont eat Atlantic salmon! This is a Chum salmon video! 2 dead CHUMS on the bank. Harvesting wild Pacific salmon is and has been sustainable for thousands of yrs, while corporate manufacturing of farmed salmon in open net cages IS NOT.

  • @SilversidesFishing wat a dummy eh?

  • awesome; how do you drive to this location or is it boat only?

  • It's been almost 30 years since I lived at the coast, Victoria. I heard you couldn't catch a chum as they eat jelly fish. Won't take a lure. Additionally I thought they didn't eat on entering fresh water. Is this a new technique?

  • Chums eat like other salmon - herring, shrimp etc.

Salmon dont eat in the rivers but they do bite many offerings. We get Chums very easily on jigs and some spinners. Jigs for Chums is a hot technique they cannot resist!

  • @benwinterburn Salmon dont eat when entering fresh water colors piss them off or you can bottom bounce for them

  • Bottom bouncing for Chums is NOT SPORTFISHING, its snagging!

Chums bite Jigs dead drifted under a float. Chums are easily taken using jigs, flies, and spinners! Why would you want to snag them?

Fishing is a game that involves tricking a fish into biting your offering, not flossing or snagging like so many do do on some of our local rivers.

  • In this video you said don't eat Atlantic salmon because they're all farmed these days. Well you're wrong. There are still populations of wild atlantic salmon that can be caught in canada on the east coast. Also Maine still gets sea run Atlantics, and Massachusettes. I live in NY and we have many landlocked Atlantic Salmon as well. Also here in the markets you have the option to buy wild Atlantic salmon that was caught in Norway. If you don't believe me search for wild atlantic salmon videos.

  • Hi Jake, your right about wild populations and the occasional spot on earth where one can buy real Atlantic salmon. Out here on the west coast of BC there are so many toxic salmon farms(Atlantics) that disease and sea lice epidemics are causing huge declines in wild Sockeye salmon and many other wild fish stocks too.

It's likely that over 99.9% of Atlantic salmon found on the market today in the USA and Canada come from farms. This is why we are wanting people to choose wisely and buy wild only

  • @SilversidesFishing, I understand. Thank you. But I personally would rather not see people buy Wild Atlantics because they're still facing a serious decline. The land locks are my favorite fish, but they are extremely hard to pursue. I will do more research on this.

  • Greatest place on earth! Only place where a grizzly, and a man can fish in co-existence.

  • where abouts is this in fraser valley?? It looks real nice and I want to go there since Im in the fraser valley! Please tell me where exactly this is! thnx

  • if you kill mushy dark chums you will have a mushy crappy meal. If you really are a chef(and i am) you should know better. This is common knowledge up here and thats why fresh chums are good table fare if you know the rules and can cook outside the box.

  • Are thay good eating???

  • yes. chums got a bad rap for eating because many fishermen are lousy cooks! I used to cook in restaurants and learned some secrets to cooking fish. Chums are oily. I like to filet mine fresh, and cook filets on medium heat in large skillet with oil and the right seasoning and fresh lemon juice- very good.

How you cook chum is not how you cook sockeye for the most part. My greek style chum is very nice.

Maybe I will do Chum Gourmet TV.

  • EVERY ONE WHO WATCH'S THIS SHOULD SIGN THIS FORM PLEASE, its easy and fast.

I'm looking forward to fishing here for the rest of my life in my future thanx

  • You say this is the fraser? why is it so clean?

  • supposed to be fraser valley

  • What you said about the atlantic salmon is very interesting, I just heard about that from somebody else too. Isn't that a joke?

  • the fraser's tributaries such as the harrrison or vedder are for some reason more clear but in some piont in the system the fraser's main branch is actually pretty clear

  • KYLECOG they are the sickest king salmon are the best chum are nasty

  • not for smoking they aren't

  • Good video, but may I comment? I live in Ireland and I have personally witnessed our salmon stocks desimated by greedy commercial fishermen and govt quotas, on top of this salmon farms desimated our magnificent sea-trout because of sea-lice infestations. Please demand an immediate end to all of these activities in your area or you will end up like Ireland and striped bare of your natural asset.

  • we too have issues with salmon farms. We are trying very hard to make them go away. When people stop eating this toxic and environmentally destructive product then they will shut down.

As for our wild Chum salmon, their numbers are healthy in the rivers we fish and we have good management of them. Closing it down is NOT necessary.

    thanks for the concern however.

  • Those are some nice chum, still all shiny and newish!

The chum are most plentiful in most rivers in B.C.Done right, they ain't bad eating and great for smoking.

Other salmon species are more desired by commercial fishers and MOst sport anglers.Catching silver chum like these are jus as fun and a prize as catching any spring, coho or pink.Mind you catching descaled chum is fun at first but the novelty wears off soon.

These dead chums are not even a dent in the chum population.

    Nice Fish!!!

  • no one wants the chum salmon!!! coho sockeye red salmon what ever you wanna call it taste the best...nice fish though

  • Our Chums are fresh from the sea and fight like hell! they are great sportfish. they have the rep of being poor table fish but I used to be a chef and i figured out some really great recipes for them. we always cook one up on the river and everyone loves it, even other guides.

  • nice video.... i live in Washington state and i think the big king salmon smoked are the best...!

  • The chum salmon is the best tasting salmon in the world when smoked.

  • they are awesome when smoked. But just over the last 2 years I have learned the proper way to cook them fresh and they are delish!

  • Uhh,the Harrison,I love the part when another boat was checking on where to land.

  • that was weird, we were the only boat on the river that day and he wanted to get in beside us as if the fish only bite in that spot, duh.

  • Chum salmon rock ... best tasting salmon there is, period!!!!!

  • To all the people who think chum taste poor: You do not know how to cook or prepare fish. I serve it freshly cooked on the shore with the right seasoning etc, and not one person has disliked it, and almost everyone wants seconds, including other guides. Stick that in your landing net.

  • I live in Ireland and fished the Harrison river in oct 08 for chum salmon, they fight like the devil and I would have loved it if you were cooking these fish for me the way you suggest here. Yum.

  • thanks!

We have Chum fishing dialed in very good with all methods. If you want some of that good cookin then you can book with me and experience some great rewards!

  • Fishing is Fishing no matter what your catching the way i see it.Good video 5 stars!

  • thats a bright chum!

  • funny choice of song? Let's eat!
