not hearing problems. but this interpretation was recorded at an era when one had no idea how to play bach and Baroque correctly. so they played it perfectly in the way they knew: romantic. that was perfect these days. I remember my Frst Passion after Mathew 40 years ago. wonderful. but if I hear the recording today it sounds a bit strange. I think thats what these "do not likes" mean.

Damn... Bach made so many pieces, and yet some are not in my taste, others are the most beutiful pieces of music I have heard.
This one is certainly going to my list. Im only in the beginning of the BWV list (the Cantatas) and it feels like it's going to take forever, and that the cantatas ins't as good as the other ones. But they certainly are at least equally as good as the rest of Bach's pieces, but still. They are not so popular and well known. That's to bad.
I know most people here are in good faith, so allow me to explain something to you: people like nequillim are what is commonly known as "trolls". This means he posts comments on the internet that seem silly to himself but expects to get an outraged response to. This allows him to feel smarter than people because he is more cynical than them. Check out, for example, his one single youtube post. Its a "tip" on how to "hide secret files" in the recycling bin (which of course deletes them)
hey i think that biber is a genius...cz when i listen to him...he lifts my soul..and makes me experience all kinds of great emotions...what its my right...everything is subjective..even beauty.
@satchi123 If a song makes you happy, listen to it no matter what people say. But what's happening is people are becoming brainwashed into listening to whatever is played to them repeatedly on the radio,in the clubs, etc. There are songs I've heard that are complete rubbish but I like hearing them for the memories. Music can be about bringing back memories, which is nice, but then there's music that u can be amazed and touched by without ever having heard it before. Would Bieber's music do that?
@nequillim Hmm...let's picture it this way, you're finally down in your bed suffering, who would you choose? (Bieber who would just sing 'Baby' in a happy and inappropriate mood?) By the time you want him to shut up and you get so frustrated and throw your ipod on the floor, be careful that no one ROFLs at you :P (Go on, continue trolling classical...)
I am in agreement with the people who think that the great brightness, beauty and deeph of this music, speak to us of a light that there is at the end of the dark tunnel!
BWV 140 sounds so much nicer in this slower tempo, the other performances that i've heard are nice too but nothing has the pure emotional power of this particular one. Does anyone know where i could find the whole thing?
@przebieglabrukiew Compeltly agree, I love listening to classic music during studies, even more so when I'm studying philosophy or contemporary history...gets me in the mood I guess lol
@nequillim The artists you named are completely uncreative, with the same repetitive lyrics and chord progressions. Furthermore, a great deal of the pop songs today are derived from these compositions by "classical composers [who] are now dead" - without them, we would not have the music we have today.
Classical (and I use the term "classical" generically for Baroque, Romantic, etc.) composers explore a world of creativity and possibilities. They were unique in themselves, unlike artists today.
@nequillim you are one of the lowest scum on the earth if you say can somehow come to this video, smash Bach, and then say Lil Wayne is somehow better than classical composers. Classical music then was written for the intelligent and sophisticated. Trash like Lil Wayne has existed since Bach's time (though worse now) and they are never studied years later. You think Bach was "pop" music among the masses? Pop music is shit like you.
You know whats awesome, bach once went to prison for hitting a guy over the head with a bar stool because the guy was talking crap. fact or myth, I choose to beleive that.
@nequillim Brain damaged? Look who's talking. And first off, this isn't classical, its baroque. All those "musicians" you just listed are disgraces to entertainment.

@nequillim Oh really? We were still "savages" in Bach's time? Lady Gaga will probably be remembered forever because she's crazy. People have enjoyed this music for hundreds of years. Most modern music is completely forgotten in less than 10.
This is absolutely beautiful! This masterpiece is also featured in "Mr. Holland's Opus" in the part where Cole starts directing and closes his eyes. I could listen to this all day.
@nequillim You're an idiot. All great contemporary music stems from classical music. That's where you get music theory. You're confused because you are ignorant/arrogant. So go ahead and enlighten yourself before you make comments that are innate.

@ericoschmitt yes.. ive asked the bassist who works there, he transposed it "for easier playing"
thats for himself, because there are clarinets and other Bb tuned instruments playing it. and the flutes have to go too high, and frequently out of tune on the highest notes -.-
Ta bueno pero para mi esta muy lento. Me acuerdo de una version de Robert Shaw que era mas agil . Tal vez porque sea la que primero escuche , esta me resulta algo empastada.
I think that god was speaking through Bach, I love CPE Bach, but this is something truly heilig! I wish there was music like this today, perhaps even in English.
@bassbass99able hey now... what the hell is your problom.... Can I not express how much I like this song? well it is a song. and if you dont like what I call it I could give a damn. I wasnt put on this earth to please you. now, Id apreciate it if you didnt muck up this channel with your rude comments.
This is actually my favorite piece of music of all time. To me it sounds like Bach translated those moments when one's heart is filled with so much joy -or pain - that it seems you cannot go on, but you do into music. I know it's based on a parable, but to me it sounds like something completely different. Bach was - is - the greatest composer I have ever heard.
I actually remember teh time when one could just listento music without videos. Or contemplate a painting or a photograph that didn't move. It was so much better, because one really listened to music, without having it interpreted for oneself by almost always a very mediocre video interpreter.
Who says everything has to move all the time? What is wrong with being quiet and still for a while?
Same thing with tempo. Now, everyone but everyone is playing everything with breakneck speed, whether the piece demands it or not. What is this, a sport competition?
This piece right here is performed at the speed it requires. Karl Richter is a terrific conductor, he makes no mistakes. The problem is not in him but in so many listeners who get bored with anything under 100 mph.
Sir(s): If I may, at this Date and Time, state here, attest to the full, and question of Ye, namely, "What is It Which I now make here?" I make a Quiet Place for Us, as does the Eagle Which works by Night. He comes to know more and more of the Night Hours and of Others in the Dark of Night. And yet, "It Seems," how finely the Twilight falls upon the Wing and sets the feel for soft light from an Eagle-lit Candle in the Ruins of His Lone Acropolis. I have been here a long While, and I set It Out.
Hey everyone. Please listen to my Improvisational take on the piece Fur Elise. It is called Fur Elisha. I assure with that you will just be mesmerized by the sound that enters your ears.. with love.. Tyler James Portnoy. ~ thank you. .~( you should join my channel, be friends.)
@ImmotalDragon I "liked" it but honestly, this isn't a video - it's audio with a picture ;). A lot of people "dislike" that - not because the music's not great but this "should" be a video, not radio format.....

@ericoschmitt yes.. ive asked the bassist who works there, he transposed it "for easier playing"
thats for himself, because there are clarinets and other Bb tuned instruments playing it. and the flutes have to go too high, and frequently out of tune on the highest notes -.-
but i play cello, so its ok for me in any key

I think that god was speaking through Bach, I love CPE Bach, but this is something truly heilig! I wish there was music like this today, perhaps even in English.

What a blessing Bach was to mankind. And I say that as an atheist.

Goodness, how spoiled have people become.

The loss is theirs.

This is just part four of a the amazing seven part cantata. How could he write something so profound in just a few days? Astonishing.

@banginghats2
The best things come from your heart.
It's easy to write something beautiful, you just have to let it happen.
Too many people worry about making something good when they really just have to write without worry.
Which is what Bach did, write without worry. :D (except for money. lol) Just be in the moment, that's great advice for anything.
Do what you love in the moment.
