Valid points all. However, it's not the modern versions with which I take issue. It is the corrupt underlying text on which they are based that I reject.
Virtually all scholars today admit the worthlessness of the W-H manuscripts. However, what they will not tell you is that the Nestle-Aland, and UBS are ALSO based on the same corrupted Vaticanus and Sinaiticus sources.
Give me a modern version from the Masoretic Hebrew, and the Textus Receptus (a.k.a. the Majority Text).
@webfulcrum you do its the new king james version. It is from the Masoretic text and new testament is from the textus receptus. its also good because they give you the variant readings of others texts as a footnote.
@fws91 if the nkjv was actually translated from the Masoretic text and the Textus Receptus... then how does it render Isaiah 14:12? And how does it render Matthew 17:21? And how does it render I John 5:7?
The KJV was great at its time but its outdated now. Modern people can't understand old English that well so new translations are helpful. If you can understand old English cheers to you but for the rest of us the KJV is useless because its very hard to understand.
@gilbert4321 The AV isn't "old English" as you suppose. Modern English is considerd from 1450 to the present. The AV is a 5th grade reading level. You can read @ a 5th grade level can't you? The translators didn't speak how the AV is written.
Ever look into the Geneva Bible? It was the predecessor to the KJV - the version the pilgrims used coming to the New World (America) - it was THE translation until the late 1700s, since early America saw the KJV as Anglican and America wanted nothing to do with British/Anglican influences.
Look AV 1611 guys, you know as well as I do we believe the KJV is God's inerrant word not because scholarship says it is. Not because the current available evidence proves it to be and not because it is the popular thing to do. We believe it is the word of the living God because the Holy Ghost bears witness to it in our hearts. Compare the fruit of the AV to any 50 new translations, make that 100 and tell me which has the power of God bearing witness to it. By their fruits ye shall know them.
@mwilson70201 God did not inspire the translation process of the kjv or ANY version. They were men of God who did their best to translate the text. However they are fallible and some mistakes come into the translations. all translations have errors. Only the original autographs are inspired and inerrant. We have copies but have plenty of them so we can cross check for accuracy.
@fws91 Prove it. While the vast majority of translations are money making ventures inspired by greed there are those who have the hand of God on them. For instance in II Tim 2:15,16 Paul reminds Timothy that he had known the scriptures from his youth then says all scripture is inspired by God.Timothy learned from copies, not the original witings. If you deny the miraculous in preservation you prove your religion to be intellectual in nature and in so doing deny the faith you profess to have.
@mwilson70201 The more I learn about the field of "textual criticism," the more I understand that it is completely without faith in the supernatural.
If I call myself a "Christian," yet treat the Word of God as though it were a reprint of Homer's "Iliad," I have proven by my works that I don't believe that God is real, and powerful, and... God.
I recommend: "Which Version is The Bible" by Floyd Nolen Jones
@webfulcrum Textual criticism is certainly the product of at the least disbelief and at worst unbelief. The lliad analogy is accurate, intellectual assent is not faith, and head knowledge is not heart felt salvation. I'll look into Jone's and Missler's books, thanks for the heads up. However I don't need a critch to support my faith in God's word and I suspect you don't either. Still, it's good to be able to give an answer to every man for the hope within you. Be easy on fws91, he needs help.
@fws91 I always check out the channel of those who answer my post and what I found on your's is a perfect illustration of modern bible denying scholarship. Some pastor who's been taught out of his confidence in God's word spends the rest of his life teaching those he should be building up in the word to deny it. Young man, I suggest you get on your knees before God and seek the wisdom only he can give, it's found in his word the AV. It's sad your faith has been corrupted at such an early age.
@fws91 To claim inspiration without preservation is to call God a liar. Psalm 138:2b says "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."
This is indicative of the seriousness with which God almighty takes his word.
Ergo, if he inspired the original autographs, but 'neglected' to preserve them for *all* of mankind throughout history (despite the best efforts of that Roman cult)... then he would not be God, and we would be better served pursuing hedonism.
It is clear that you have no studied the KJV Defense side of the subject. If you do, you'll see that all your "arguments" have been answered 60+ years ago. Seriously if you're going to make a video attacking the pure word of God, at least give some new "arguments" that have not been refuted over and over.
The perfect written word of God exists in English. It's the King James Version. Over 99% of all Greek manuscripts that we have today support the King James Version. We have the perfect written word of God. Change the title of this video! Did you know that God put His written word above His name?
"I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." Psalm 138:2
We should use the bible (KJV) that is settled in heaven. That is Gods Word that is why it is perfect. Jesus is the Word of God John 1:1, 1John 5:7 says For there are three that bearrecord in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. So now Jesus the Word o God is perfect , God does not mess up. read another version ifo want to but God said he would take you out o the book of Life for it REV. 22:19, so keep reading those other bibles. God bless have a good day
Very good presentation; could you comment on the "Wescott & Hort" and "Vaticanus" manuscripts since the KJV-only crowd believe all "corrupt" bibles come from these codexes?
-----------------
Also, get a hold of the NEW New American Bible / Revised Edition; I give it two thumbs up.
Lastly, have you ever read the Knox Translation Bible? A very different bible, I must say. Pax.
Read the biography of King James 1 you will understand that God used a KING to bring about his word to the English speaking people JAmestowne Va. was the first English setlement of the US King James intended to bring his translation to the free world to spread the gospel. Before william Tindale was martyred he said " Lord open the eyes of the King".
Jamestown was founded as James Fort in 1607. The King James Bible was not published until 1611 and it was not popular. The Geneva Bible was used in the American colonies and continued to be the most popular Bible in England as well until printing and later importing (because people continued to import it) of the Geneva Bible was prohibited. The first Bible the people of Jamestown used would have been the Geneva Bible.
The English language may be getting worse, not better. The KJV was translated at a time when the language was arguably at its peak. Shakespeare's work seems harder to read than the KJB, and yet the KJB is written (as a translation) in the same Early MODERN ENGLISH period in the history of the English language.
The quadricentenary King James Bible possesses numerous drawbacks and shortcomings, being an antiquated 400-year-old Anglican translation which utilizes Elizabethan prose and is completely disconnected from contemporary English-speaking laypeople, incorporating multitudinous Medieval-period archaisms, translational errata, archaic phraseology, translational inconsistencies, and unjustifiable omissions. Its Shakespearean constructions and terminologies are outdated, cumbersome, and unforgivable.
I started with the NIV. The more I read I find the NIV doesn't have the power of the KJV. I have moved to the KJV because I feel the "word" though it. Then I studied the sources of the translation of the newer bibles and found it lead back to Rome. And that these newer versions are politically motivated. And that the Catholic church has promoted certain lies towards the KJV, that there should tell you something. But the new 2011 NIV is not a bible, but a pile of ink and paper.
Dont u find it hard to remember verses when u us so many Bibles. The verses are different u cant get the same thing from them things that are different are not the same. KJV name in the book of life, NIV name in the tree of life. A book and a tree are not the same.Rev, 22:19
Neufeld Crock Comments II - The KJV is "not a useful tool for reaching unchurched people"! Wow! So if you're "churched", even though already condemned (John 3:18), the KJV is great. I wonder how many great preachers of the last 400 YEARS would agree with this boneheaded statement? Measure the KJV by its fruits compared to ANY OTHER SO-CALLED "TRANSLATION" ! It stands head and shoulders above any of them. Neufeld is educated way beyond his intelligence and is not to be taken seriously.
How often do we hear the phrase "the KJV is a great version, BUT". Notice that there is always a "but" connected with comments like this? He spends most of his time lauding the KJV, until the inevitable "BUT" appears.
It takes him until over 5:30 of his video to finally get around to explaining his "BUT". He alleges that the archaic language is a "barrier" to reaching young people...what a crock. For nearly 400 YEARS, the KJV has proven its worth. Compare that to ANY other so-called "bible".
@tigerlilly66 have you ever worked with youth? if you have you would know that they don't prefer it and shouldn't we minster to people based on their needs and understanding instead of ours?
As a matter of fact...YES I HAVE and for many years, Mr. Know-it-all.
What you're saying is the standard "The KJV is too hard to understand for today's young people" CRAP that has been promoted for years. I had no problem whatever understanding the KJV quite clearly when I was a teenager. You shortchange them by implying, no outright saying, that they're too dumb to get by the "thees and thous". If that kind of language throws you, you're a pathetic junior-high dropout, pal!
@tigerlilly66 im not saying that i grew up with the KJV and am not saying they don't understand it but that they would not prefer it. Please don't attack fellow brothers in christ like this I did not mean that comment to be sarcastic in any way but from my experience in working with youth through bible school and on traveling ministry teams it is easier to use another translation. Why do we allow this to divide the church?
I love you as a brother although i don't agree with all your views
@44crackermcd = I'm not apologizing for coming across as strident and unwilling to compromise on the issue of the Word of God. If the "other translations" you refer to were true to the manuscripts upon which the KJV is based, we would have no problem. But since they ALL, I repeat ALL are not based on the Masoretic Text, but upon the Catholic Vaticanus and Sinaiticus manuscripts that are shot full of error, don't tell me it is a light matter that we can just "agree to disagree" about!
@tigerlilly66 I like the KJV and respect the way it was translated but be careful in discrediting the Gospel that is clear from other translations:
ex 1 cor 15:3-5 "For l delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." (thats the ESV) pretty accurate wouldn't you say?
@44crackermcd = Thank you for at least outlining your postion in a friendly manner. However kind and well-intended your comments are, you continue to miss the entire point of all of my position. There are approximately 30+ so-called "versions" of the Bible available in English today, give or take a few. NONE of them say the same thing, therefore they cannot ALL be the "words of God". Things that are different are NOT the same. "Pretty accurate" may be good enough for you,but not for me!
@tigerlilly66 is not the basis of our faith the person and work of Jesus Christ? that he died for our sins and rose from the dead? I believe the scriptures are inspired and 100% accurate the inerrent word of God but never forget the Gospel is the foundation of christianity not the KJV bible i like the KJV but am not willing to allow an issue like this to divide the church when i study i use the greek and hebrew tools available and benefit from it just as much out of the KJV as the NASB
Am I the only one who has seen that the NKJV is much more accurate as far as Greek translations than the KJV? See for yourself if you do not believe me. I was raised on the KJV, but after I accidentally got a hold of a Gideon's NKJV, I have found it to be much more accurate according to Thayer's Greek Definitions and much easier to understand. It has helped me grow greatly in my walk with Christ : )
Sad to see the few who adhere to the only preserved acurate word KJV bible get accused of being "ONLY-ISTS" by the deveils' followers. Oh well, we were warned of "many false prophets shall arise" and be "printed too" . We were also warned we who follow truth that being Jesus Christ would be hated mocked lied about and persecuted in many manners by many men. Thank you scofield and zonderman for fulfilling the scriptures so so perfectly. The word in a KJV has become true Again!!!!!
a blasphemous witchcraft manual that some mis-identify as a bible is clear evidence of a compromising carnal mind. the KJV says to abhore evil that the strange doctrines like scofield is. Why someone even would need the heretical manuals in there posetion is proof that they do not understand who Yeshua is or have Any clue his real power and glorious wisdoms are kept in the KJV that is proper and 100% complete. Lots of excuse rationalizing to allow the serpent logic false prophets exist.
@zobcity01 please do a study on translations without any presuppositions and with a teachable heart. it is hard for me to believe the KJV is the only inspired version because what happened before 1611? was there no bible? could people get saved before 1611 without the word of God? what about people that aren't english speaking and read the spanish bible? I believe when the ESV says that to be saved you must believe that Jesus Christ Died for our sins and rose from the dead that it is 100% truth
Wow... you can always find the seriour KJVOnlyist when you see a bunch of CAPS! What's up with that?
hneufeld, This is one the very best videos I've seen on the KJV. It was balanced, truthful and timely. My KJV was given to me in 1968, but it's not as well-worn as yours. You are to commended for your efforts here. Just outstanding in every way.
@BOGZASV8MA You stated you hate God's word. As a christian you know that is wrong. If you state otherwise then you are not a christian and thus have no authority on this matter. Repent!
@psycofloyd You fit your NAME profile. You are a PSYCHO. Can you READ ENGLISH YOU RETARDED FOOL????? DID YOU READ MY COMMENT BELOW? APPARENTLY NOT you UNEDUCATED FOOL WHO CAN'T READ ENGLISH. I NEVER STATED ANYTHING YOU CLAIM YOU SLANDERING MORON WHO HAVE NO LIFE.
@psycofloyd you DON'T ACT LIKE A CHRISTIAN BUT A REPETITIVE PSCYHOPATH.
you revolve the WHOLE WORLD on YOUR NARCISSITIC VIEWPOINT. you mimic the pharisees from the ancient past. NO WONDER JESUS CHRIST was crucified BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!!
@BOGZASV8MA The fear of God leads to repentance which leads to salvation and faith. Better for me to be hated by the world and declare heresy where it exists than to break God's law. Stop listening to Satan and understand repentance. GOD LOVES YOU BUT IT IS UP TO YOU TO FOLLOW HIM. Your constant attacks have shown where your heart is. Repent!
@psycofloyd your fear of GOD is your OBSESSION ON MANIPULATION.IF YOU HAD THE FEAR OF GOD, YOU WOULD RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE . APPARENTLY YOU DON'T ...BECAUSE YOU SLANDER ...WHICH IS A SIN. SO YOU REPENT.
@psycofloyd you are ALSO DELUSIONAL on OTHER PEOPLE ATTACKING YOU when you bring it on it yourself with your NARCISSITIC arrogance. AND IF YOU THINK GOD IS WITH YOU . LOOK AT YOUR ACTIONS. you slander. BESIDES JESUS NEVER MENTIONED ANY KING JAMES in his TIME. KING JAMES NEVER XISTED IN 1 AD -
I'm going to be upfront and tell you that I'm an atheist, but I really appreciated your treatment of the subject, and I offer my condolences for your having to deal with the other comments on your page. If I believed in God, I would not think he hated you for daring to read other English translations. Somebody might mention something to the commentators about what the biblical Jesus said, in any translation, about judgment.
You can also pick and choose verses from many different bibles so you can change it to suit you. Sometimes you may not like what God has to say in the KJV so you can find a bible that words it a little nicer. Plus now days, kids are too stupid to understand anything that has a word like thee or thou. They need to offer a bible that is personalized. If you like to steal, it won't be in your bible. If this verse maybe takes some power you have over other people away from you, you can omit it.
get all the facts folks. God warned in many places that there will be adding and taking away from His words. Someone is in trouble. What really disappoints me is hearing guys like this state they trust every word of the Bible and believe it is inerrant. They do NOT. Stating such is deceiving themselves and others. They are doing more harm than good.
let the voice of God speak.... 1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 1John.2 [22] Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. CHECK YOUR BIBLE Christians..make sure you have the WORD which is from the RECEIVED text..many verses are omitted that identify this in ALL the new versions....
The KJV is a good bible. But I agree there are better modern versions for reasons mentioned in your video. I would suggest more literal translations such as the NASB, RSV or even NKJV . Translators take too many liberties with the para-phrase versions such as NLT, NIV, The Message, etc... But using a several in study, will give you a broader understanding of God's word. Just steer clear of obvious erroneous versions and "supplements" such as NEW WORLD TRANSLATION (NWT) and THE BOOK of MORMON.
The KJV is "not" the best for exegitical study? Oh, that's right. It doesn't teach two gods in John 1:18. It doesn't take the trinity out in I John 5:7. It doesn't take the resurrection of our Lord out in Luke. It doesn't take out the only command to "STUDY" the word of God in II Timothy 2:15. Modern scholarship has stolen your brains and your BIBLE away from you.
The new versions are based on rejected texts translated by unbelivers. Redirectism^com You cannot use them together because they are not from the same sources.
Thanks to YouTube, we have these pseudo Bible scholars and Bible critics everywhere on the Internet. If he was so well versed in Hebrew and Greek, he should posted something intellectual rather than his hate message. Oh, thats right! Knowing a few words in another language only makes him bogus scammer of Gods Word.
A pompous fat guy who tries to explain how great he thinks he is. It is laughable that his pompousness is his source of his inspiration. I will trust the Bible over his pompous opinion. If he exercised instead of skim over the Bible, at least he would have been just a pompous health guy. With his sorry pompous attitude his missed out on his life. He is bold, old and sad piece of work.
What information in the KJV is dated? I disagree w/ your compromise on "youth ministries." People want to learn what they want to learn. Most people don't want to take the time to learn the KJV formal english, they just want a dumbed down version. The bible says study to shew thyself approved, not read. Un-churched people will not understand the KJV or any version because the scriptures are spiritually discerned; they need a preacher and the Holy Ghost.
..Hmm. Do you read the original HEBREW text? If you don't, you should.. However, thanks to so many lies produced by this.."Mystery Babylon", the truth has been utterly distorted. ...I wonder how many of you believe in a Rapture... Because, guess what... THERE IS NO RAPTURE. WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE TRIBULATION RIGHT NOW.
In fact, I challenge everyone who's forefather's were from The Middle Passage. Why? Well, those, my beloveds, are the TRUE Israelites! ...YOU ALL HAVE BEEN HOODWINKED! FOOL BY SATAN HIMSELF! This Savior.. Is not the true savior! This is THE BEAST himself! Turn away from him NOW! Go to Yahushua, the true savior! Plead for his blood to wash you, invite him into your life and let HIM lead the way..NOT RELIGION..And keep his COMMANDMENTS. YOU ARE ALL DYING BECAUSE YOU DID NOT KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS!
And you people... QUITE PREACHING THIS FALSE PIG SHIT! YOU ARE KILLING YAHUA'S PEOPLE BY FEEDING THEM THIS PIG SHIT! QUIT IT! ...And that's not the only truth.. Want more.. STUDY THE TRUE HISTORY AND THE TRUE TORAH!
At the turn of the century (1900) the KJV was standard reading material in schools and read on a 3rd grade level. Now they claim it to read it at a 12th. The KJV did not change people did.
If men are so smart nowadays then how come after hundreds of new English versions they just can't seem to get it right? The KJV will turn 400 next year. Still the same bible it was back then.
Let me tell you why a new version comes out about every six months. MONEY!
get The Scriptures or a translation from the Peshetta Aramaic, easy to read and truthful
false KJV
Isa 18:2 Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!
The real text TS 1998
Isa 18:2 Go, swift messengers, to a nation tall and smooth-skinned, to a people dreaded from their beginning onward, a nation mighty and trampling, whose land the rivers divide.
I see you had the Schofield Study Guide as you spoke of as using.
One point you need to know is Dr. Schofield had NO formal education what so ever. He did finish high school and thats it. The Dr. in front of his name should not be there.
Just a word to let you in on. Look it up and see.
Scofield was an ATTORNEY. He had no seminary (cemetery) training, but to claim he only had a high school education is a flat out LIE.
They don't have good records from his education in pre-Civil War times, but he became an attorney, elected to Congress and a District Attorney before God brought him to his knees and saved him.
D.L. Moody, Billy Sunday, Charles Finney, Charles Spurgeon and many other great men had no seminary (cemetery) training.
For starters open your NIV check out what was removed in Matthew 17:2118:1123:14 check out what was removed in Mark 9:449:4615:28 check out what? was removed in Luke 17:3623:1724:40 If you want a more in depth list, with an explanation, check out my video Why the King James Version? (more info)
I often use the lesser modern versions when trying to get various facets of a text or passage. Admittedly they can be of some use though they need to be used advisedly as if they are not potentially they can do more harm than good!!
Amen! You cannot improve upon perfection. Satan is subtle; small changes in wording and in many cases complete removal of entire verses. What is the reason for so many of these new versions? MONEY!
....I think there are more reasons than money. Here is an example...Jesus referes to himself as the "morning star". In the NIV ....they put the title of Jesus, where Lucifers title belongs..in Isaiah 14:12 and they removed Lucifers name. Lucifers title is "son of the morning". Isaiah chap. 14 is the only place in the bible were Lucifers name is used. I guess the NIV commitee has some sympathy for the Devil. There are dozens of opposites in these new bibles...I don't think it's an accident.
I beliveve in the Most High The Creator Of ALL Things! Anything man made has been made with imperfection. I watch all you people find mistakes and reasons to downplay anothers belief. When noone is abiding by ALL the rules of the bible! The bible says do not shave you sideburns and yet preachers pastors christians and many others toss this rule out the door. Same with tatoos! If your for the bible then abide by ALL its laws and stop passing judgement on others! You ALL are sinners!! ALL!!!!
You should have started by explaining the subject you were aiming for and what you were trying to accomplish with this video. It's all just unqualified opinions.
I must have missed the first video in which you shared your credentials and explained why you are an expert or an authority on the subject of bible versions. You made some very vague statements as in the comment regarding newly discovered manuscripts. You failed to tell anything about those manuscripts or why you thought they were of more value than those used for the KJV. The God that opened my understanding of His word also opened my understanding the language of the Authorized Version.
I actually think English is moving BACKWARDS, today we use vast colloquialisms, and, the average teen's vocabulary is atrociously low. God gives us understanding of the gospel remember, the KJB's archaic terms shouldn't matter. Perhaps the problem is not the KJB, but people's ignorance to the gospel that they can't read it. Sometimes the problem isn't "using a different translation," it's using 1 John 1:9 and asking GOD. Faith without works (Romans 10:3-4, 4:5-6).
Blow it out you nose buddy. If all you do is "prefer" the KJV, than you're an idiot. This guy is a perfect example of someone who is educated beyond his intelligence. What he is saying is simply this...God doesn't speak English very well (or at least as good as I would have liked him to.) Go kid your grandma.
Any translation that comes from the Alexandrian text is good. I read KVJ and NKVJ for this reason alone. Many of the other translations have gnostic influences in them and are not in my opinion worth using for study. To each his own I say. As long as we spur each other on to good works and sound doctrine, realizing one day we'll hopefully all arrive in heaven and be together for eternity. That is of course, if you are trusting and clinging to the sacrifice made for you on the cross!
This video is spot on. The KJV had its place historically, but is far too archaic to be wisely used in evangelism.
How many people know the meanings of words like: "avouch", "bruit", "collop", "concupiscence", "durst", "emerods", "greaves", "neesings", "wist"? They are all in the KJV.
"If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me." - 1 Cor. 14:11 (NASB)
Most people don't know the meaning of the word salvation or love either, at least not as God intended them to be interpreted. They use a modern unbiblical interpretation.
That doesn't stop us from soul winning any more than being too lazy to learn the meanings of words that we have changed should steer us into using manuscripts that are highly suspect, corrupt and incomplete.
The King James is still relavent, it just takes a little studying to show thyself approved.
...I disagree.....I can't see one good reason to pull...Lucifer from Isaiah 14: 12....and replace it with a title for Jesus...."morning star". It makes Jesus look like the fallen one. Then the NIV footnote says this verse has to do with a king of babylon. Ridiculous
Sadly, people can spend years in school to learn to be a doctor, lawyer, teacher and many other things but cannot take a little time to learn the "archaic" language of the KJV. According the American grading system the KJV is written on a grade 5 level whereas the NIV is grade 7. Things that make you go hmmmm.
@mephibosheth I have an undergraduate degree in classical languages and I am also a lawyer. It may be my Catholic biases here but I find the Elizabethan English of the KJV almost impenetrable at times-most especially in the writings of St. Paul-and quite frankly rather boring.
@RPenta The bible should not conform to you, you should conform to it. If it is boring, you either have no interest in what God wants you to know or you should study out the meanings. The words "you must be born again" in Jn 3:3 is watered down in all other versions. We should all work to understand what God says and obey it, even if we are lawyers.
@mephibosheth hmmmmmmmmmm makes me think maybe the American grading system work for the goverment, and we all know where they stand with The Lord,,,,,no more prayers in school,,no more posting the 10 commandments. hmmmmmmmmmm should we listen to anything they have to say?
Too many here keep making the claim that too believe/read the KJV you are making it "your idol" That's just wrong. I read it and believe it and tremble at it words as Isaiah did. But it's not an idol too me. Better a translation I understand than words in an unknown language. Greek is an unknown language too me. English is the language I read and speak. I'll take the KJV or Geneva Bibles over any Greek/Hebrew text any day any time.
The KJV is purposed to be "hard to understand" for those who are not obedient to it. When a soul repents, understanding is increased. As it is written "excellent speech becometh not a fool". Should we bring the Words of God down to a vulgar or "common" understanding? He is The Most High and His Word is Holy or "separated". There were better men upon earth in that period of history and the form of writing was also exalted as compared to other times or "seasons". Your words at 4:11 are correct.
I also use multiple Bibles to see different commentaries. I like /prefer Hebrew based Bibles but like you I have my worn KJV. I also just got a Aramaic Eglish NT this is one of my favorites. I think it is great that you have your dads Bible. Great Video.
The KJV is the only complete Translation. The others leave out many verses - or add - or change the meaning. You speak as an authority yet you mere mimic the critics of the KJV. The later discoveries - Dead Sea Scrolls "PROVE"
the KJV. The manuscripts that NIV is based on are not complete-corrupted--older in age does not mean better. Quit telling people they can not depend on the KJV - If it is not - many are in hell today for trusting it as the guide to heaven.
Well, I understand it pretty well and I've only been reading from the KJV for about four months. The NIV makes me mad because of all the deleted verses, and I actually like that the "thees and thous" do technically make it more accurate as it distinguishes between singular and plural. It's really not THAT hard to read. It just takes a little bit of getting used to. And for the record, I can't stand Shakespeare. This may come from the same time period, but Shakespeare had a weird style.
Read something not full of lies, misquotations, and heresy; "The King James Only Controversy" by James White if you really want to see the fallacy and foolishness of version debate.
kjv is confusing with all the thou and yee and thy . shakespeare type words. Those words never apeared before the king James version. They were added by king james himself. These Shakespeare words are what confuses people. I myself cant understand one word of Shakespeare . I final caved in and checked out other bible versions . and was astonished to actually understand what was being said .
I used modern Bibles for 18 years before switching to the KJV after reading "Which Bible" and I understand it perfectly. I actually find modern Bibles less clear and more difficult to understand. Probably because the modern translations are based of perverted texts from Rome and Alexadria.
I have personally met and talked with Peter Flint one of the translators of the DSS material. He told me that they confirm the accurracy of the KJV. The simple test in "my opinion" is the witness of the Holy Spirit. You must know the story about the occultists Wescott and Hort. God can use a newspaper to save a soul but that does not mean the newspapaer is God's word. KJV is word for word translation which is what I am looking for, not man's "dynamic equivalency". No copyright on the KJV :)
1) "Confirming the text of the KJV" and "confirming the textus receptus" are not the same thing. The textus receptus is a Greek text of the New Testament.
2) There are substantial variations from the OT text of the KJV shown in the DSS.
3) There are many formal equivalent translations, but that is no guarantee of their accuracy.
4) The KJV was under crown license, the equivalent of copyright in its time.
With the discovery of the Dead sea scrolls the textus receptus has been proven accurate. I know many children that have no problem with the KJV. There is rarely more than a 3 syllable word and the language makes sense to children. The God who formed the mind can enlighten the readers understanding just as he opens our minds to see the deeper meaning of his word. Why not just update the KJV language instead of using poor manuscripts? That is what Wescott and Hort were to do in the first place.
(1) The Textus Receptus is a New Testament text. The DSS do not demonstrate anything about it one way or another. The Masoretic text is OT, and the DSS suggest rather that there are some weaknesses in the MT. (2) The number of syllables in a word is not the only measure of how difficult it is to understand. (3) Your language argument could have been used to require people to learn Latin during the reformation--and was.
Amen! However, that does not support what you are claiming. I reiterate your statement: "You were saved by the KJV..." No one is saved by a book of compiled scripture; but by the passion of Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins. Really people this is bordering on cult speak!
You were saved by the KJV. You memorized it as a child and young man and have many fond memories from it. Yet now you degrade it and belittle it. Shame on you! You let your education destroy your faith. Dump your higher criticism and get back to the book that grounded you to begin with.
What? Ref: John 6:53-57 53Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
Go back and look at tempus' words. "You were saved by the KJV -- or "You were saved by the King James Version" He is actually claiming that salvation comes from a particular version of the bible! If you posit this, then you sir, are a heretic.
"Over time that language has changed". Bah humbug. I was a high school drop out and had no problem understanding the KJV. That argument is a smokescreen. It has been proven that though the KJV is harder to read it is easier to understand.
I don't like the KJV. The language is archaic. The ASV or NASB is a good translation that is fairly literal. The NIV is another good translation, but the theology bias is greater towards Protestantism, even if it is more readable.
KJV VS NIV/NASB. They do not communicate the same message. Cross check a few verses. Isaiah 14:12-15 the NIV/NASB replaces LUCIFER (KJV) with MORNING STAR. then in the NIV study version, (I wont call it a bible) It gives reference to Revelation 22:16 to find the morning star, which we all know is JESUS CHRIST. the authors of these versions took out the only place LUCIFER is written in the Bible. Also compare Luke 11 prayer, how we should pray. see what the new versions take out. GOD BLESS
Henry says: "...but as with any translation "balh" blah" "blah"..."
If God did NOT preserve His Word through 'Translation' (His Words, not just meanings), then that means one of three things (or all three) must be the case:
1) God just didn't care.
2) God was unwilling.
3) God was unable.
Neither of those cases sounds like the Lord God of Israel to me - what about you?
If God did NOT care about, was unwilling, or could not perserve His Word (Psalms 138:2) then what about us???!
Is there some purpose in preserving words apart from meanings?
I pity you because you appear not to be able to trust the way God HAS chosen to preserve his word, and instead want to make one up, establishing the KJV text as your idol.
Give me a modern version from the Masoretic Hebrew, and the Textus Receptus (a.k.a. the Majority Text).
webfulcrum 2 months ago
@webfulcrum you do its the new king james version. It is from the Masoretic text and new testament is from the textus receptus. its also good because they give you the variant readings of others texts as a footnote.
fws91 1 week ago
@fws91 if the nkjv was actually translated from the Masoretic text and the Textus Receptus... then how does it render Isaiah 14:12? And how does it render Matthew 17:21? And how does it render I John 5:7?
These three should suffice for an example.
webfulcrum 1 week ago
The KJV was great at its time but its outdated now. Modern people can't understand old English that well so new translations are helpful. If you can understand old English cheers to you but for the rest of us the KJV is useless because its very hard to understand.
gilbert4321 2 months ago
@gilbert4321 The AV isn't "old English" as you suppose. Modern English is considerd from 1450 to the present. The AV is a 5th grade reading level. You can read @ a 5th grade level can't you? The translators didn't speak how the AV is written.

Ever look into the Geneva Bible? It was the predecessor to the KJV - the version the pilgrims used coming to the New World (America) - it was THE translation until the late 1700s, since early America saw the KJV as Anglican and America wanted nothing to do with British/Anglican influences.
evilunixuser1 3 months ago
Look AV 1611 guys, you know as well as I do we believe the KJV is God's inerrant word not because scholarship says it is. Not because the current available evidence proves it to be and not because it is the popular thing to do. We believe it is the word of the living God because the Holy Ghost bears witness to it in our hearts. Compare the fruit of the AV to any 50 new translations, make that 100 and tell me which has the power of God bearing witness to it. By their fruits ye shall know them.
mwilson70201 3 months ago
@mwilson70201 God did not inspire the translation process of the kjv or ANY version. They were men of God who did their best to translate the text. However they are fallible and some mistakes come into the translations. all translations have errors. Only the original autographs are inspired and inerrant. We have copies but have plenty of them so we can cross check for accuracy.
fws91 1 week ago
@fws91 Prove it. While the vast majority of translations are money making ventures inspired by greed there are those who have the hand of God on them. For instance in II Tim 2:15,16 Paul reminds Timothy that he had known the scriptures from his youth then says all scripture is inspired by God.Timothy learned from copies, not the original witings. If you deny the miraculous in preservation you prove your religion to be intellectual in nature and in so doing deny the faith you profess to have.
mwilson70201 1 week ago
@mwilson70201 The more I learn about the field of "textual criticism," the more I understand that it is completely without faith in the supernatural.
If I call myself a "Christian," yet treat the Word of God as though it were a reprint of Homer's "Iliad," I have proven by my works that I don't believe that God is real, and powerful, and... God.
I recommend: "Which Version is The Bible" by Floyd Nolen Jones
And
Chuck Missler's "Beyond" series
webfulcrum 1 week ago
@webfulcrum Textual criticism is certainly the product of at the least disbelief and at worst unbelief. The lliad analogy is accurate, intellectual assent is not faith, and head knowledge is not heart felt salvation. I'll look into Jone's and Missler's books, thanks for the heads up. However I don't need a critch to support my faith in God's word and I suspect you don't either. Still, it's good to be able to give an answer to every man for the hope within you. Be easy on fws91, he needs help.
mwilson70201 1 week ago
@fws91 I always check out the channel of those who answer my post and what I found on your's is a perfect illustration of modern bible denying scholarship. Some pastor who's been taught out of his confidence in God's word spends the rest of his life teaching those he should be building up in the word to deny it. Young man, I suggest you get on your knees before God and seek the wisdom only he can give, it's found in his word the AV. It's sad your faith has been corrupted at such an early age.
mwilson70201 1 week ago
@fws91 To claim inspiration without preservation is to call God a liar. Psalm 138:2b says "for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."
This is indicative of the seriousness with which God almighty takes his word.
Ergo, if he inspired the original autographs, but 'neglected' to preserve them for *all* of mankind throughout history (despite the best efforts of that Roman cult)... then he would not be God, and we would be better served pursuing hedonism.

Shakespeare's work seems harder to read than the KJB, and yet the KJB is written (as a translation) in the same Early MODERN ENGLISH period in the history of the English language.
brandopt 6 months ago
The quadricentenary King James Bible possesses numerous drawbacks and shortcomings, being an antiquated 400-year-old Anglican translation which utilizes Elizabethan prose and is completely disconnected from contemporary English-speaking laypeople, incorporating multitudinous Medieval-period archaisms, translational errata, archaic phraseology, translational inconsistencies, and unjustifiable omissions. Its Shakespearean constructions and terminologies are outdated, cumbersome, and unforgivable.
TheHeroOfChrist 8 months ago
I started with the NIV. The more I read I find the NIV doesn't have the power of the KJV. I have moved to the KJV because I feel the "word" though it. Then I studied the sources of the translation of the newer bibles and found it lead back to Rome. And that these newer versions are politically motivated. And that the Catholic church has promoted certain lies towards the KJV, that there should tell you something. But the new 2011 NIV is not a bible, but a pile of ink and paper.

Neufeld is educated way beyond his intelligence and is not to be taken seriously.
tigerlilly66 1 year ago
How often do we hear the phrase "the KJV is a great version, BUT". Notice that there is always a "but" connected with comments like this? He spends most of his time lauding the KJV, until the inevitable "BUT" appears.
It takes him until over 5:30 of his video to finally get around to explaining his "BUT". He alleges that the archaic language is a "barrier" to reaching young people...what a crock. For nearly 400 YEARS, the KJV has proven its worth. Compare that to ANY other so-called "bible".
tigerlilly66 1 year ago
@tigerlilly66 have you ever worked with youth? if you have you would know that they don't prefer it and shouldn't we minster to people based on their needs and understanding instead of ours?
44crackermcd 9 months ago
@44crackermcd =
If that kind of language throws you, you're a pathetic junior-high dropout, pal!
tigerlilly66 9 months ago
@tigerlilly66 im not saying that i grew up with the KJV and am not saying they don't understand it but that they would not prefer it. Please don't attack fellow brothers in christ like this I did not mean that comment to be sarcastic in any way but from my experience in working with youth through bible school and on traveling ministry teams it is easier to use another translation. Why do we allow this to divide the church?
I love you as a brother although i don't agree with all your views
44crackermcd 9 months ago
@44crackermcd = I'm not apologizing for coming across as strident and unwilling to compromise on the issue of the Word of God. If the "other translations" you refer to were true to the manuscripts upon which the KJV is based, we would have no problem. But since they ALL, I repeat ALL are not based on the Masoretic Text, but upon the Catholic Vaticanus and Sinaiticus manuscripts that are shot full of error, don't tell me it is a light matter that we can just "agree to disagree" about!
tigerlilly66 9 months ago
@tigerlilly66 I like the KJV and respect the way it was translated but be careful in discrediting the Gospel that is clear from other translations:
ex 1 cor 15:3-5 "For l delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." (thats the ESV) pretty accurate wouldn't you say?
44crackermcd 9 months ago
@44crackermcd = Thank you for at least outlining your postion in a friendly manner. However kind and well-intended your comments are, you continue to miss the entire point of all of my position. There are approximately 30+ so-called "versions" of the Bible available in English today, give or take a few. NONE of them say the same thing, therefore they cannot ALL be the "words of God". Things that are different are NOT the same. "Pretty accurate" may be good enough for you,but not for me!
tigerlilly66 9 months ago

It has helped me grow greatly in my walk with Christ : )

a blasphemous witchcraft manual that some mis-identify as a bible is clear evidence of a compromising carnal mind. the KJV says to abhore evil that the strange doctrines like scofield is. Why someone even would need the heretical manuals in there posetion is proof that they do not understand who Yeshua is or have Any clue his real power and glorious wisdoms are kept in the KJV that is proper and 100% complete. Lots of excuse rationalizing to allow the serpent logic false prophets exist.
zobcity01 1 year ago
@zobcity01 please do a study on translations without any presuppositions and with a teachable heart. it is hard for me to believe the KJV is the only inspired version because what happened before 1611? was there no bible? could people get saved before 1611 without the word of God? what about people that aren't english speaking and read the spanish bible? I believe when the ESV says that to be saved you must believe that Jesus Christ Died for our sins and rose from the dead that it is 100% truth

Look it up and see.
turtle4aire 2 years ago
You LIE.
Look it up and see.

Amen! You cannot improve upon perfection. Satan is subtle; small changes in wording and in many cases complete removal of entire verses. What is the reason for so many of these new versions? MONEY!
2Timothy4vs5 2 years ago
....I think there are more reasons than money.

Wait...I don't mean any disrespect or anything, but why is the video titled "Why I Hate the KJV"?
OneGodApostolic238 2 years ago
I must have missed the first video in which you shared your credentials and explained why you are an expert or an authority on the subject of bible versions. You made some very vague statements as in the comment regarding newly discovered manuscripts. You failed to tell anything about those manuscripts or why you thought they were of more value than those used for the KJV. The God that opened my understanding of His word also opened my understanding the language of the Authorized Version.
mephibosheth 2 years ago
I actually think English is moving BACKWARDS, today we use vast colloquialisms, and, the average teen's vocabulary is atrociously low. God gives us understanding of the gospel remember, the KJB's archaic terms shouldn't matter. Perhaps the problem is not the KJB, but people's ignorance to the gospel that they can't read it. Sometimes the problem isn't "using a different translation," it's using 1 John 1:9 and asking GOD. Faith without works (Romans 10:3-4, 4:5-6).
ChristKeep 2 years ago

14:11 (NASB)
cliffordbrown1930 2 years ago
Most people don't know the meaning of the word salvation or love either, at least not as God intended them to be interpreted. They use a modern unbiblical interpretation.
That doesn't stop us from soul winning any more than being too lazy to learn the meanings of words that we have changed should steer us into using manuscripts that are highly suspect, corrupt and incomplete.
The King James is still relavent, it just takes a little studying to show thyself approved.
danboone143 2 years ago
...I disagree.....I can't see one good reason to pull...Lucifer from Isaiah 14: 12....and replace it with a title for Jesus...."morning star". It makes Jesus look like the fallen one. Then the NIV footnote says this verse has to do with a king of babylon. Ridiculous
vachief 2 years ago
Sadly, people can spend years in school to learn to be a doctor, lawyer, teacher and many other things but cannot take a little time to learn the "archaic" language of the KJV. According the American grading system the KJV is written on a grade 5 level whereas the NIV is grade 7. Things that make you go hmmmm.
mephibosheth 2 years ago 8
The KJV is written at a 12th grade level.
1027sterling 2 years ago

@mephibosheth I have an undergraduate degree in classical languages and I am also a lawyer. It may be my Catholic biases here but I find the Elizabethan English of the KJV almost impenetrable at times-most especially in the writings of St. Paul-and quite frankly rather boring.
RPenta 7 months ago
@RPenta The bible should not conform to you, you should conform to it. If it is boring, you either have no interest in what God wants you to know or you should study out the meanings. The words "you must be born again" in Jn 3:3 is watered down in all other versions. We should all work to understand what God says and obey it, even if we are lawyers.

TheCrimsonSkull 2 years ago
Because you know Isaiah read the KJV too!
nmedia123 2 years ago
The KJV is purposed to be "hard to understand" for those who are not obedient to it. When a soul repents, understanding is increased. As it is written "excellent speech becometh not a fool". Should we bring the Words of God down to a vulgar or "common" understanding? He is The Most High and His Word is Holy or "separated". There were better men upon earth in that period of history and the form of writing was also exalted as compared to other times or "seasons". Your words at 4:11 are correct.

Use the translated bible that the Lord moves you to use or use the translated bible that satan moves you to use.
In the beginning at the age of 17 I did not know how to read or write.
I not knowing the Word of God hungered for the Lord.
The Lord moved me to the KJV and behold I could read it and understand it and as you can see I can also write.
It is not the translator or translation of the bible, but the Lord that gives us the power to understand his word not man.
Jesus is Lord.

No copyright on the KJV :)
mephibosheth 3 years ago
You should make some effort at accuracy:
1) "Confirming the text of the KJV" and "confirming the textus receptus" are not the same thing. The textus receptus is a Greek text of the New Testament.
2) There are substantial variations from the OT text of the KJV shown in the DSS.
3) There are many formal equivalent translations, but that is no guarantee of their accuracy.
4) The KJV was under crown license, the equivalent of copyright in its time.
5) God can even save someone thru the KJV!
hneufeld1 3 years ago 2
With the discovery of the Dead sea scrolls the textus receptus has been proven accurate. I know many children that have no problem with the KJV. There is rarely more than a 3 syllable word and the language makes sense to children. The God who formed the mind can enlighten the readers understanding just as he opens our minds to see the deeper meaning of his word. Why not just update the KJV language instead of using poor manuscripts? That is what Wescott and Hort were to do in the first place.
mephibosheth 3 years ago
(1) The Textus Receptus is a New Testament text. The DSS do not demonstrate anything about it one way or another. The Masoretic text is OT, and the DSS suggest rather that there are some weaknesses in the MT. (2) The number of syllables in a word is not the only measure of how difficult it is to understand. (3) Your language argument could have been used to require people to learn Latin during the reformation--and was.
hneufeld1 3 years ago
Amen! However, that does not support what you are claiming. I reiterate your statement: "You were saved by the KJV..." No one is saved by a book of compiled scripture; but by the passion of Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins. Really people this is bordering on cult speak!

I want you to be my youtube critic.

You were saved by the KJV. You memorized it as a child and young man and have many fond memories from it. Yet now you degrade it and belittle it. Shame on you! You let your education destroy your faith. Dump your higher criticism and get back to the book that grounded you to begin with.
tempusfugit68 3 years ago
tempus -- I believe he was saved by Jesus Christ - not the bible.
pseudorandom331 3 years ago
Well, Jesus said "my words... are spirit, and... life" (John 6:63).
Jesus said he was truth and he said his word was truth, equating himself with his words so tempus is actually correct.
k8ai 3 years ago
56Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
pseudorandom331 3 years ago
Go back and look at tempus' words. "You were saved by the KJV -- or "You were saved by the King James Version" He is actually claiming that salvation comes from a particular version of the bible! If you posit this, then you sir, are a heretic.
pseudorandom331 3 years ago
The Bible says that we are saved by receiving the gospel not as the word of man but as the word of God.
tempusfugit68 3 years ago
"Over time that language has changed". Bah humbug. I was a high school drop out and had no problem understanding the KJV. That argument is a smokescreen. It has been proven that though the KJV is harder to read it is easier to understand.
tempusfugit68 3 years ago
I don't like the KJV. The language is archaic. The ASV or NASB is a good translation that is fairly literal. The NIV is another good translation, but the theology bias is greater towards Protestantism, even if it is more readable.
Magnulus76 3 years ago

KJV VS NIV/NASB. They do not communicate the same message. Cross check a few verses. Isaiah 14:12-15 the NIV/NASB replaces LUCIFER (KJV) with MORNING STAR. then in the NIV study version, (I wont call it a bible) It gives reference to Revelation 22:16 to find the morning star, which we all know is JESUS CHRIST. the authors of these versions took out the only place LUCIFER is written in the Bible. Also compare Luke 11 prayer, how we should pray. see what the new versions take out. GOD BLESS

Henry typed: "Is there some purpose in preserving words apart from meanings?"
Henry,
1)'words' must be arranged in the structure of a sentence, that is is the only way to convey 'meaning' (oral or written).
2) each 'word' has its own meaning (good authors even choose synonyms with great care)
3) changing the 'words' of a sentence changes the 'meaning' of that sentence.
God has choosen to preserve 'words', thus preserving His 'meaning'.
Your post is illogical!!!!!!!

And finally Dear Henry quirks: "...establishing the KJV text as your idol."
Since you can offer no logic to this dialogue I should have figured you would have resorted to slander and/or name-calling!!!
Your slander about my having an idol sir is both unfounded and a lie!!!
It is you sir who has an idol, because your arogance betrays you - your idol sir is 'you'!!!
Now Dear Henry, either address my FIRST post with logic or remain silent. Throwing a fit won't cut it - care to be nice now???!
jehovahuponyou 3 years ago
Henry says: "...but as with any translation "balh" blah" "blah"..."
If God did NOT preserve His Word through 'Translation' (His Words, not just meanings), then that means one of three things (or all three) must be the case:
1) God just didn't care.
2) God was unwilling.
3) God was unable.
Neither of those cases sounds like the Lord God of Israel to me - what about you?
If God did NOT care about, was unwilling, or could not perserve His Word (Psalms 138:2) then what about us???!
