I'm in the UK and my girlfriend is in the US. I'm DISGUSTED everytime she tells me she need to see a doctor but cant because she doesn't have healthcare. She could go to the ER but they'd chase her for the medical bills the moemnt she's about to leave the ER.

There are plenty of ways to get health insurance. And for those that truly can't afford it, there are some government programs available. And most doctors have payment plans, and will discount services for self pay patients. I don't disagree that there is some reform needed but I think that a government takeover is not the answer. Neither party is doing what is best for people, just what will give the party power. Its ridculous that the country is divided because of the leaders power play.
You heard it from the ex-president himself, use the emergency room, tell them Bush sent you. No need to feel guilt. Put an 'x' through the section where you promise to pay, initial it and then go to the bottom and sign your consent to be treated. You'll have about half the chance of an insured patient if you have any life-threatening injury, but beats the hell out of certain death. Or dress scruffy, get picked up for vagrancy or whatever crap they call it now and get treated while in custody.

Which half Nationalized and Half private. They are used in France, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and New Zealand. Well the funny thing about death panels is they already exist. Medicare is the largest denier of claims. Anyways I don't know where you get your percentage for malpractice but Its probably at least 10% of hospital and 20% of private practices overhead costs. Still looking for a source on this but comparing it to other types of insurances companies get that's the minimum. If this plan was actually going to be free I might like it but there is no way it will be given the gov't track record.

No bullshit! You're right! My wife had to go to the ER in December 2008 because she was vomitting blood. Turns out she had a bleeding ulcer. They did surgery to fix and and the insurance company still hasn't paid! They're looking to see if it was something pre-existing to cause it so that they won't have to! We got a letter from the hospital saying that if the insurance company doesn't pay then we have to!
We didn't mind that they were investigating because she was completely healthy until she got sick. However, when the hospital is now sending bill because they refuse to pay, that's when we decided to do something. We filed a lawsuit on their asses on Monday so we're waiting to hear back. I also sent an email to the president of the insurance company telling him that I'm going to inform Michael Moore!

How can your health insurance be that high? I live in the Netherlands where when we come of age we have to choose a form of health care starting from basic.
Mine is around 120 euro's a month approximately, which would be around 160 US dollars...and sometimes the companies you work for have the inbuild health insurance. So I am truly perplexed.

There are plenty of ways to get health insurance. And for those that truly can't afford it, there are some government programs available. And most doctors have payment plans, and will discount services for self pay patients. I don't disagree that there is some reform needed but I think that a government takeover is not the answer. Neither party is doing what is best for people, just what will give the party power. Its ridculous that the country is divided because of the leaders power play.

Put an 'x' through the section where you promise to pay, initial it and then go to the bottom and sign your consent to be treated. You'll have about half the chance of an insured patient if you have any life-threatening injury, but beats the hell out of certain death. Or dress scruffy, get picked up for vagrancy or whatever crap they call it now and get treated while in custody.

Which half Nationalized and Half private. They are used in France, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and New Zealand. After more than a decade of public healthcare with mandatory coverage, so many Canadian doctors have left the practice and so many young people have entered other fields that Canada ranks 26th of 28 developed nations in its ratio of physicians to population. Once, Canada ranked among the leaders in the number of physicians, but that was before government healthcare drove doctors out of the practice in droves.

Actually the republican plan is open the borders of states so that 1000s of plans can compete and the ones that don't cover things or are too expensive die. Also tort reform so that you get realistic payment for malpractice cases. Also set up tax exempt health savings accounts like IRAs so like your retirement you can have money growing to cover costs. I think that's actually spin talk. Health Companies don't want to compete and heavily finance campaigns of people on both sides of the fence.
That would lower costs. Malpractice only accounts for a very very small percentage

Malpractice only accounted for .2 percent of Health Care costs, so Tort reform is kind of like getting change out of the couch.

Well the funny thing about death panels is they already exist. Medicare is the largest denier of claims. Anyways I don't know where you get your percentage for malpractice but Its probably at least 10% of hospital and 20% of private practices overhead costs. Still looking for a source on this but comparing it to other types of insurances companies get that's the minimum. If this plan was actually going to be free I might like it but there is no way it will be given the gov't track record.

And Insurance companies think everything under the sun is experimental. And if they do pay out anything, they investigate you as though your Al-Qaida until they find something that is a pre-existing condition which retro-actively affects your coverage and they get that money back.

No bullshit! You're right! My wife had to go to the ER in December 2008 because she was vomitting blood. Turns out she had a bleeding ulcer. They did surgery to fix and and the insurance company still hasn't paid! They're looking to see if it was something pre-existing to cause it so that they won't have to! We got a letter from the hospital saying that if the insurance company doesn't pay then we have to!

We didn't mind that they were investigating because she was completely healthy until she got sick. However, when the hospital is now sending bill because they refuse to pay, that's when we decided to do something. We filed a lawsuit on their asses on Monday so we're waiting to hear back. I also sent an email to the president of the insurance company telling him that I'm going to inform Michael Moore!
