True Artusts ! Chet watched Jerry's chording so as to follow along in sequence ! They can hear and feel where the song is going, and are prepared for the chord changes ! Jerry's shows had the top artists and real ones didn't have to have sheet music, they "followed the flow" of the chords and fell right into it ! THAT IS PURE TALENT !
i guess i havent been watching the news because i just found out that both of my guitar heroes passed away a long time ago. i guess i forgot to factor in aging. i guess i'm getting old too. i guess i'd better stop wasting so much time...
Guitar Player Magazine once asked Chet in an interview, "Who's the best you've ever heard?" Chet's answer, interview style, was: "There's no answering a question like that - impossible. [pause] But Jerry Reed is just *so* awfully good."
Chet Atkins was both my hero and my mentor. That being said, I am always amazed - as I have seen it happen more than once - when Chet and Jerry share the stage - Chet just folds his right arm across the top of his guitar and stares at Jerry's hands at work. Chet is always smiling and at the end of all the songs I've noticed this with - he gives Jerry a little bow and applause. Many of the songs Chet recorded were of Jerry's writing.
To some, this comment will sound like blasphemy, but I actually prefer Jerry's version to Ray Charles'. Always have. This is simply amazing. RIP, Snowman.
I just didn't appreciate what an incredible arranger he was until I started cruising his youtube postings. How do you improve on this ? And the great Chet A. was continually surprised by what Jerry wrote, arranged, and played. It seemed to come out of nowhere. It is a strange twist of fate that he is best known for his movie roles.
Do I detect some overdubbing in the beginning? I hear notes that his left hand doesn't appear to be playing, and at 0:18 there's a phrase that's repeated and his left hand obviously isn't playing the first one!! Still, this is the only video I've seen of Jerry playing Georgia and it remains my favorite Jerry tune of all. Like so many others, I miss Jerry, his craziness, and most of all, his guitar playing.
@grichard24 Actually it sounds like the recording itself was a little messed up and it repeated a section of audio that wasn't in sync with the video - that wasn't overdubbed at all.
Surely two amazing instrumentalists. Jerry specifically is on my top 5 list of amazing musicians!

That's what the South is all about, isn't it? Beautiful ideas, sung from the heart, and never too far from the blues.
