The practice is so widespread throughout pretty much every continent of the world....you would think there is some other reason other than simple 'head beautification'. I know that (according to the info section of this very video) some people thought that it led to a greater memory. Who knows? I think it would be incredibly interesting to give the villagers who have had it done in this video IQ and Memory tests.
