On the album WTSMG it is dedicated to Ashcroft but when they play or played it live, they dedicated it to different people. It was not specifically written for Ashcroft. But it's some song..
This song was never my favourite on WTS[MG] but these performances @ Maine Road, when Liam and Noel both sing "Bound with all the weight of all the words he tried to say," is just amazing, to hear how different, yet amazingly good, they both sound.

You can't compare Noel and Liam. Noel is strong with acoustics and emotional themes. Liam can sing Rock. But you have to admit, over the years Liam's voice got worse and worse. Noel's voice keeps getting better. Dont take my word for it, look at the videos!
There are songs that liam sing better than noel and songs that noel sings better than liam but liam has that special vovice that meke him liam gallagher

Cast no Shadow was written for Richard Ashcroft. In turn Ashcroft wrote the title song from the Northen Soul album for Noel
