@yayayoya most would say hard bop. but mingus fashioned his own style which included more collective improvisation (from the new orleans style) combined with edginess of 50s R&B and blues. in the end though, just calling it jazz is good enough, no one will ever tell you you're wrong.
from all comments in youtube saying " how can someone dislike that" or this kind of shit, this is the only song where i reaaaaly dont get how a dislike is possible. I swear.
I miss Mingus but I fear the man, because I was white and he hate white noise, I fear the man because he was writing some black notes that I didn't understand, I miss Mingus cause he was the man that made me understand the blacks notes on the stand. I love Mingus because he was the man that make the music on the stand.

@fiftieslover True.. And I don't think people should even complain, they can just go on the internet and get music from other places and times.
Back then you only had access to select types of music based on the local musicians and local record stores, nowadays you can listen to whatever you want and people complain just because the music they like isn't popular, and the music that's popular sounds shitty.
I don't really get what people are saying about the low notes of the baritone saxophone being "smooth." To me they have a very raw and powerful sound. They contain a strong and expressive "punch" but definitely not smooth to my ears. We all hear music differently I guess.
