As I read around here, too few people to say anything about this rendition
Great Caballé, the only one modern Tosca, so away from imposed tradition the
hyperdramatic: Caniglia, Cigna, Callas, Olivero. Certainly all of them valid. Tebaldi's Tosca targeted towards a more feminine and fragile.
Caballe is in fire, love and jealous woman with excellent musicality in thi duet with bristly multiple phrases and multiple changes in time to the music. Pavarotti , singing easy, frank and communicative
@kgarmaker123 I don't blame you lol. With a screamish top, a trill-less voice and the most awkward pianissimo interpolations, there's nothing really musical in our poor Monsti :( I will admit I do like her in some of these Puccini roles, but the bel canto can be a niiiiiightmare.
@BZBlaner Wow.. at last someone who dislikes this woman as much as I do.. all this bell canto for this woman and not a single trill.. wow.. seems hard to believe.. and yes she does scream her top notes.. which is perfect for Puccini.
@kgarmaker123 I used to be fascinated with her fabeled pianissimo register, but it only takes so much until you get bored with literally no interpretation. Adding in all the technical deficiencies this woman had as well, what's really left? A beautiful voice on like 5 notes, and only in certain dynamics? It's crazy how she's renonwed for being a bel canto specialist when the voice is as technically limited as Tebaldi.
@BZBlaner Even that was false ( the pianissimo) register... was all wrong too. She paid no attention to any of the composer's intentions.. she did what she wanted and some idiots liked it.. her musical taste was banal. She was nothing to brag about ...
@kgarmaker123 I know what you mean, and I have practically listened to everything this woman has recorded, particularly her bel canto stuff. I'm not sure whether it was her ignorance to the composer or just her inability to do forte? If you listen to her Lucia, for example, she practically SCREAMS out all the Db6s in the most horrific manner. Even anything above Bb5 has a 'screamish' quality to it, especially in her later years. And yes, the indulgence in ppp was done in poor taste
@BZBlaner Her Regnava is ridiculous.. Those repeated B naturals at the end are screamed out, like they are the end of her voice.. Why she chose to try Lucia without trills, Eflats, real dynamic control, and musicality is beyond me.
@kgarmaker123 After all these years, it's safe to say that Maria is the only one who truly matters in Lucia. Sutherland was also fabulous in that role, but Maria's phrasing (and interpretation in general) was taken to another level.
@kgarmaker123 Haha yeah, you're probably referring to the idiot who uploads every Caballe recording on Youtube and titles it "UNMATCHED": /watch?v=mLdXua8Ba2w&feature=fvst
Her singing and musicality is as basic as her following.
@BZBlaner Well, Onegin,,... considers any comments about Montsi as heresy, unless they are uniformly in praise of her.. he is a ridiculous poster, even if he has five million videos.. He knows nothing about music.
@kgarmaker123 I absolutely HATE when the main posters on here censor the comments which don't conform to their narrow-minded views. Art in general is supposed to be criticized; to be judged and analyzed. I won't even mention the name of the other main poster who has essentially created a cult of coloratura lovers and worships that voiceless Devia and her three good notes. I can't stand that woman.
@Jeanne90275 WEll dear Jeanne: Onegin is sensitive to criticism of certain singers.. and he handles it by blocking folks who are telling the truth.. So if you want to know my contribution.. its truth.. you get it from me. I love Callas, its true, but I am not sensitive about folks who do not like the quality of her voice, or her vocal problems later in her career.. They are entitled to their opinions.. Onegin on the other hand is another matter. Does he really know these singers? I would say no
@Jeanne90275 You have a point, and I agree.. he has made a contribution... but it does not hurt him to allow people to make comments that have a valid musical basis. This protection of Caballe and Price ... they were not perfect artists either of them, far from it, although like all singers, they had great careers and great moments, is just plain ignorant.
@kgarmaker123 Relax brother, if you dislike Caballe, what the hell you write in a post where she sings? Are you a masochist? Like or dislike, is a choice, of course; hate is not good for anything.
Well, Caballe you are hated by some callasians vicious-looking dog Why?

What's with you people? We were blessed with so
many "greats,"...can't you just enjoy them? If you

I never like Montsy... even on a good day, she does nothing for me. Pav, on the other hand is fabulous.

@BZBlaner Chicken voice Devia? LOL. I hate her too. Not much of a singer. And he does not want to hear me either. so he blocks the truth.

@kgarmaker123 Oneguin 65 has put up many videos
and recordings for us to enjoy. What, exactly, have you
contributed? I, personally, appreciate people who take
their time to post video/recordings!

@kgarmaker123 Well...I think you are missing my point.
Oneguin65 has uploaded performances that are unknown
to my generation. We never had the opportunity to see and
hear these 'greats' live when they were in their prime, with
Pavarotti (in concert) being the exception. "Truth" is relative;
with art, it's in the eye or ear of the beholder. My "truth" in art
is what 'speaks' to me; your "truth" may be altogether
different...and I respect that.
