  • question please answer quickly if possible: is it possible to use american AV cords on a Japanese sega saturn?

  • i wanna play a Sega Saturn. NOW!!!!!

  • @meganico98 i wanna play a sega saturn with you baby cakes

  • @meganico98 You can Its called and emulator. Want more info send a pm sometime! XD

  • @1991doomsday i tried on my pc, with SSF, but it runs slowly. so i tried on my Mac with Yabause, but i can't run it because i don't have the plugins!

  • @meganico98 Send me a private message.

  • I have one and I love it to bits but how come the one here looks different to the one I have. Its the Black one and this one is Silver/White is there any difference apart from the Colour?

  • Now that's what gets you ready to play some Policenauts!

  • 0:13 that's a funny little jingle.

  • @2FunnyVersionIV Thats mah SMS Sound :3

  • Boot Scree is correct Sound is THE NSTC BOOT SOUND

  • US SATURN STARTUP IS THE BEST.

  • @SnowOwl You cannot play Sega Saturn games on the Sega Dreamcast. The Saturn and Dreamcast are actually very different machines in terms of their processors. This makes backwards compatability quite a challenge. The Saturn had a very complex architecture which includes two main processors. This is the main reason why there aren’t any Saturn emulators that have high compatabilty and run smoothly on older PCs.

  • I was going to get a Japanese Saturn but i whimped out and bought a Dreamcast, which plays both Saturn and its own games

  • Comment removed

  • @MegaMrDamo It plays Saturn games? Since when? I'm curious to know, because I tried a Saturn game on my Dreamcast, doesn't work.

  • Reminds me of THX logo. Scary.

    Segata Sanshiro FTW

  • @IrishRetroGamer I was going to say that the Japanese Sega Saturn startup sounded like the Deep Note.

  • The Japanese Saturn start-up sound gives it extra power, the American one is meh.

If Sega had this startup, and used Segata Sanshiro for marketing in the US with NO translation, just subtitles, it would had outsold everything. (Also release all the Japanese only games here with translation!)Why wouldn't you buy the console with the badass martial arts master that will beat you if you dont play Sega Saturn? (Not to mention the awesome theme song)

  • @drivojulianrobotnik Disagreed with some of what you said. The American startup sounds cool and etheral, like space as the planet's namesake on the system. It even has a better logo as in branding, you use a symbol on brand names that are generic, too long or is a real name.

The latter sometimes is not followed but still... Writing Wii on something would have people aware of that system while people would mistaken "Saturn" as the planet.

  • @drivojulianrobotnik Segata Sanshiro probably would not appeal to Western audiences because the character is Japanese and so is his adverts though they could use a similar character to him to appeal to Western audiences.

Still, marketing alone would not have gotten the Sega Saturn to win. The system's main problem was the programming as it housed two CPUs whereas most other video games consoles use one as many developers struggled with the two CPUs of the Saturn.

  • Yeah. your right

  • I love my Japanese Saturn (it replaced my old broken US one) but I really, really don't like the Japanese intro as much. The intro sound is kind of lame compared to the US version.

  • The Saturn is a very underappreciated console, IMHO. It didn't deserve the early death it got in the US.

  • kewl , sega

  • Emulation SUCKS.

  • Way better bootup than the American one.

  • Hahaha brushed metal background. I'm sure it was pretty slick in the 90's. Apple wound up using it on everything for a bit.

  • For people who say the saturn is the best console, wjy is it the best?

    ps3 for new gamers

if your a retro gamer you probably play nes/snes or dreamcast like I do

dreamcast/xbox are perfect systems if you want to play/make homebrew

so why sega saturn?, yes I know it has alot of good games, but you could say that the games is what sells the system and sega dreamcast has better graphics, more fun games...better overall

So why do you say sega saturn is your best console?

  • @akumie It has to do with the kind of games the Saturn had. Sure, it doesn't have the best graphics, and isn't the most "retro," but the Saturn's library--especially when you get into Japan only games--are the kind of games that don't get made anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love Dreamcast and lots of retro stuff including Genesis, but the Saturn kind of stands on its own in its own little weird world of games that most people will never get to play. It's kind of sad, really

  • omg i remember this lol

  • GREATEST GAME CONSOLE EVER!!!

  • my fav. gaming system!!...

  • What about the US/PAL sega saturn?

  • he is Japanese person who knows English as hes descriptions

  • ? who?

  • The future in 1994 in japan. interesting

  • My primary Saturn is the Japanese model 2 and I love it, but I actually prefer the American/Euro Saturn startup sound--I can't be alone?

  • nice loading screen

  • the best startups:

    1 Sega saturn Japanese

    2 Playstation

    3 Dreamcast

  • 1 : Japanese Saturn

    2 : Dreamcast

    3 : Sega CD

    4 : Playstation

    5 : Playstation 3

  • reminds me of star wars

  • 1994? hmm

  • This is so epic! I love these old CD based gaming systems and games from the 90's!

  • Very Cool!

  • This logo used to freak me out when I was younger. Its on that Viacom V of Doom level. The US boot was a lot better.

  • I understand what you mean

  • :sob: T_T...thanks for uploading

  • I owned a US Saturn for years and thought the intro sequence was lame (though not as lame as the PSX's). Now I have a Japanese Saturn with this way better boot screen. Obviously this should have been kept untouched for the Western versions, including the logo, which should have been kept too.

Notice how the animation is timed to the music, something they didn't bother to recreate in the US boot sequence.

  • brings back good memories.

  • i still like the American Saturn bootup better...

  • Or maybe, try this: Mix the Japanese version's sound with the American version's logo. Happy now?

  • The Japanese Saturn's sound at startup is better than the American version.

  • @PirhanaandKodiak idk about that this version rapes my ears idk why but i liek both versions

  • @PirhanaandKodiak Hey I agree.

  • @PirhanaandKodiak No, the American version sounds better.

  • thats odd mine was different to that.

  • Why didn't they use this boot for NTSC-U and PAL? This is SO cool.

  • It's the same with a different logo and sound...

  • I know. But this sound.

  • Even I think the NTSC-US and PAL versions should've used the NTSC-J start screen... and that sound is cool!

  • So true!

  • i like the us one better tho.

  • Sega Saturn is an underrated console

  • one of the the underrated actually

    The most underrated are:

Turbografx 16 and the Master system

  • i like the US sound better

  • I like it when it makes that sound(00:12/13)

  • The bootup sounds are much better than the EU and US versions.

  • Saturn was the hottest thing of it's time in Japan. I bet no one knows that.

  • Actually a lot of people know that, including myself.

    Remember this is the internet.

But then again you are commenting of youtube and 90% of the users are retards. XD

  • Oh how true is that...that most of the people in this place are morons.

  • Hehe hell yeah!

Good to see someone that knows their stuff for once, kudos. :)

  • It's just a real shame that when they put everything right, a la Dreamcast, it still wasn't enough =(

Sorry to go all DC, but I am a firm believer in the console

  • I've never tried the Dreamcast or Saturn but everyone says the Dreamcast was awesome. It's a real shame seeing as it was better than other consoles of the time and it got killed off so quickly.

  • reason the DC dident sell was because sega killed the saturn and people wernt gonna buy something the might kill off again. and they did kill the dreamcast and went 3rd party.

  • And Sega killed the saturn becuase they jumped the gun with the system here in america. Sega of Japan made a number of boneheaded decisions with the Dreamcast that lead to Sega going third party. (the other reason was PS2)

  • i have this bios

  • Sega fucked up the Saturn launch, ad campaign, the games we got here, the control pad, the console color, the boxes that came with the games, even this intro. Sad.

  • WHY DID SATURN DIE SOOOOO BAD?

  • Sega launched the Saturn as a surprise, none of the development houses knew it even existed and consequently the games all sucked ass because they had no time to develop anything. I've never played on one but my friend's got one and he says that's why it all went wrong. He says it's "the most pointless console... like an overclocked Mega Drive with CDs".

  • Saturn had a lot more power than that. Also the games were pretty good.

  • UK31337, i dont know where u got that info from, but, Sega Saturn was like 3x powerful then the Playstation for christ sakes and the console did have great games, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, Bug Too, and in Japan, Sega Saturn had a crap load of games there were awsome.

  • Part of the reason was that Saturn was difficult to code for and still used polygons so due to that it lost a lot of 3rd party support. True it did have some good games, but Sega's reputation wasn't too great after the Mega CD or the 32X. The PS1 however was relatively easy to code for and used a different type of 3D model, hence why Saturn failed.

  • PS1 used Polygons too. Saturn used Quadrilaterals, PS1 used Triangles which I guess was the industry standard at the time. However Saturns use of Quads was a good thing really, it allowed for less texture warping and in some cases would make a game use less polygons than it would on the PS1, since to get a square on PS1, you need 2 polygons, while on Saturn you only need 1.

  • The Saturn was very well known before it launched, get your information right before you post crap like this.

  • I need this video in fullscreen. You have? In Hi- Quality?

  • Sega of America fucked up the Saturn in just about EVERY possible way, even down to the menu screens! You can't make this stuff up!

  • Why does this seem better than the American Saturn?

Even the sound it makes when there's "no disc" is better!

  • "Even the sound it makes when there's "no disc" is better!"

Of course it's better. There's no sound in the american one.
