  • @VanityPerfection i've been having trouble with my open canvas(1.1) (i've tried 4.5 and had the same problem), when ever i zoom in on my drawings they pixelate(heavily), i've seen in many other videos involving open canvas (including yours) that when they zoom in, it doesn't really pixelate at all, can u help me?

  • @ICEtheTIGER

It's possible that your resolution is set to too low. If this is the problem, make sure that when you create a new canvas that the resolution is set to at least 2000 by 2000.

  • I love your turotail

but i have a few questions:

If i made a mistake and i want to erase it I erase te other lines to is there any thing for? And that drawing tablet is that like drawing on a nitendo or just like paper?

    Hope you can help

  • Maybe it would be a good idea to type down what 'tools' you used in the description :)

  • Dude Awesome Music! :D

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawsome song and drawing ^_^

  • HAHAHA XD...yeah..I guess I`m kind of hippie too because I got catched by your amazing songs + GREAT tutorial...THANKS....unfortunally I CAN`T get open canvas

=( i already searched for it and NOthing--- but still I like your color techniques I HOPE I could do it better next time i use photoshop =)

  • what version of open canvas is that ?

  • its great! but the neck is a bit too big :)

  • im doing one right now and its horrible :(

  • Whats the brush size?

  • Wow, that's so amazing! D: ... I just cry whenever I watch these kind of videos, people are so talented and awesome! :D - Keep rocking girl! >:3

    good luck.

  • Two questions:

    1) At 2:36, you seemed to bring up an advanced menu. Where would I find that?

    2) What size in pixels did you make your canvas?

  • You're amazing!:)

But i rather take a pencil and a piece of paper :)

  • 2:36=WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!!?!?!

  • I`m not sure, but I think.... it was just music ^^U

  • what brushes did u use for the hair??

  • How Did UU Erase The Sketch?I'm New At OpenCanvas TTwTT

  • I think she made a different layer with the sketch

  • I Know It Now From A Different Video :P

  • well, there are two typs of drawling layers, or for me sence im on manga studio, one part is sketch, : D! the sketch is on another layer, when u wanna erase, go on the sketch layer and erase withut erasing your drawling. if its all on the same layer, it will erase your drawling aswell, use layers : D

  • My lineart always looks choppy. I have my pixels per inch at 300. So, what am I doing wrong?

  • how do you get the line art smooth n not pixelated like mine? lol

  • put the pixels number up

  • WHERE DO U GET LINE ART?!!? im looking everywhere!!!

  • draw it, or you can buy it from an artist on say, gaiaonline, probably on photobucket and google too

  • this helped me so much!!!!!

    thanks!!!!

  • she looks so cute! And,I love that song! (I already know it)

  • opencanvas is so new to me. is a tablet easier to use than a mouse? i'm not used to this yet.

  • Tablets are alot easier once u get used to them, to bad i never did

  • Is it easier to walk on your feet or your hands? Tablet > Mouse :)

  • ah.. okay.

    >.>

  • and... which button do you click when you do the line art?? do you use pencil ?

I tried to use pencil but then it comes out not dark enough..

  • I love open canvas, it got the pen pressure thing so its better if you got a tablet ^^

  • how do you get the pen pressure thing?

  • its automatic when u use a tablet

  • dude did you do all that with a mouse?

  • uh how do you make it so the colors dont ovelap the lines

  • That's what's so great about openCanvas. I just tried it yesterday. As long as you make a new layer for the colors, they will never overlap the lineart :)

  • uh do u have to pay of it to do the layer thing

  • no u can download opencanvas 1.1 for FREE which is what they were using in the video. the newest version is 4 but u have to pay for it

  • ok thx

  • ohh! where do you download it for free??!

    i want itt,

my tablet is commen soonn :D

  • Oh and which tools did you use for the blue bit and the outline?

  • Is that your own person ?

Did you base it on Haruhi Suzumiyas?

  • aaahhh ._.

what kind of o.c did u use?which version?

  • How do you make it so the stupid penil doesnt show and you have the circle thingy? ....(ima noob)

  • nvm..it only works for 1.1

  • for me, for shading or something when it has a glare, i like to just go over the hole eye(using what she did as example) when she was shading...and do the whole thing in darkest color then add lighter as i go on

  • so did u use the stroke path techniques with the pen tool

  • No, I didn't. Actually I just used the pen/pencil tool. I also used my tablet which was a big help :D.

  • uh... may I ask a question? I have open canvas just new and never colored with the computer before, so my queston might be somewhat stupid... but I really HAVE to know! X_X How can I protect the outlines?

When I draw over my picture, the outlines always disappear... T_T' I tried everything.

    can you help me?

  • make a new layer and put it beneth the outline layer

  • ... o.o oh.

    OH! O__O

    it works, it works! *___*

i have to choose mulitiply layer, right?

  • Oh my gosh! That is AWESOME! I have openCanvas, but how do you color the skin like that? I've tried everything that I could, it's really hard... ;-;

  • wow you're sooo good!

  • aww..it's so hard without a drawing tablet..i tried opencanvas using a mouse and damn, i spent the whole day drawing but it's so hard!! is a drawing tablet expensive??

  • Nah, it's not that expensive ^_^. I am using a cheap 20 dollar one and it works just fine. I got it off of eBay.

  • Who is a drawing tablet different then like opencanvas. photoshop, ext.???? I really dont know what a drawing tablet is! lol

  • Ah, thats totally fine, I never knew what a drawing tablet was before either :D. A drawing tablet is like a little plastic board that you connect to your computer. It comes with a pen with a sensitive tip and whatever you draw on the board transfers onto your computer. This is very helpful if you like to draw and color digitally on programs like Photoshop, Painter, and openCanvas. Hope that helps!

  • It does alot!^^ Thanks! Oh are they really expensive??

  • @VanityPerfection lol took me like 3 months to get use with the mouse and still can't draw pretty straight

  • Ah kk, awsome thanks d(^^)b

  • whoa! you have a manga O.O, is there a place i can go check it out ^^, btw, cool pic! 5/5 =D

  • Ok, so what version of oC are you running here? I can't read it, because mine is clearly different from yours, xD

Also, how big is your tablet?

  • On here, I am running oC 1.1, and as for what size tablet I use; 4"x3". It may sound small, but it really gets the job done ^_^.

I am sure a bigger one would be much more comfortable to use though...

  • 1.1?! Really? I have 1.7, and like I said, quite different by looks. And as for tablets, I have a Wacom square tablet, like 6x6 or something.

  • That's really good. A couple of questions though: Do you find it easier to do the lineart by directly inking it or by using a pen tool, and which would you recommend to a beginner?

Also, is Akira a unisex name? I've never seen a girl with that name and thought that it was strictly for a male. (Not trying to criticize, I'm just genuinely curious. ^_^)

  • Well when I first started out, I would ink directly by hand, it definately is faster than using the pen tool. The only thing about inking directly is that you can make a lot of mistakes, and your lines can look 'dusty' when scanned to the computer. The pen tool, however, leaves nice crisp lines :D. If you are patient, then I would definately say go for the pen tool!

P.S. Akira is a unisex name, but it is rarely used on females XD.

  • what tools did you use to make this plz reply ^_^

  • I used the program openCanvas to color and draw, I used a tablet, and CamStudio to record it all :D

  • You are awesome *w*

What tool do you use to sketch?

  • wow, even with a tablet, my shaky hands prevent me from making straight lines.

  • Just make sure to work in high resolutions. Like zoom into the picture a lot and draw from there, it helps a lot! Also make sure to make long, fast strokes--after a while your hands will get used to the movement and you'll become a whole lot better!

  • thanks! that = more practice in store for me....

  • so you really draw with your tablet? o.o is there another way to get the same effect?

and about the tablet...what are u using? is it any good? what do u recommend?

  • yup!=3 how much are they usually?o.o

  • Well they can run in very high prices, especially brand names like Wacom tablets which can cost hundreds depending upon Size. BUT, a while ago when my Wacom broke, I went on Ebay and bought a really cheap and small tablet which cost about 25 bucks, and it works just fine :D.

  • o///o.....sorry i didnt read your answered question^^you use a tablet..........just one other question...what is a tablet?0.0

-is young and doesnt know hardly anything about computer coloring.....

  • Hehe, a tablet is basically a sensory board-which comes in many sizes- and plastic tipped pen. Whatever you draw on the board transfers onto the computer(on a drawing program like Photoshop or openCanvas). Hope that helps!

  • are you using the mouse for this?o.o please answer i wanted to know ^^ im getting photoshop for my birthday and your tutorals really really helped me understand how to do it....so now on my b-day i wont cry because i cant use my present -sweatdrop-

  • change the opacity of the layer ^^

I haven't used Opencanvas much cause getting decent lines with the mouse is rather hard for me. For now it's just the pen tool in CS2.

  • We're the exact opposite! I can't use the pen tool to save my life! Lucky T_T

  • But don't you use the tablet, vanity? Or do you do all of your line art with the mouse? If so I think i'll go and try it myself on openCanvas again ^^. I know I did it before but it was quite terrible and the strokes weren't very good.

On CS2, having the right brush when stroking makes all the difference too and i'm using my customs made brushes and i get these decent looking strokes ^^.

  • Yes lol, I use my tablet ^^;, between you and me, I just wanted to sound cool by making everyone believe that I use the mouse. Shhh...Lol, I kid, I kid.

Nah, yeah, thank good to my cheap tablet lol.

    Is making custom brushes hard?

  • when you drew the outline in blue and then added another layer, how did you make that blue layer become lighter?

  • There is usually a toggle somewhere in the layer box. Look for something that saids 100%, just move the little toggle around to get it lighter :D.

  • Thank god for Ctrl+Z x3 Great picture! You color beautifully!!

  • Thank you, and you're totally right! :D

  • Ctrl+Z saved my drawings more than once, unfortunatly there is a small side effect: my brain is now so used to using Ctrl+Z that when I draw on paper and I do something wrong I instantly move my fingers to the Ctrl and Z keys only instead of hitting the Ctrl and Z keys, I hit the table(completely puzzled why the drawing doesn't go a step back untill I realise it doesn't work on normal paperXD)

  • ahahaha same here! damn you computers!!

  • aww she's so cute!

  • Its so smooth because I think he uses a tablet.

  • She*

  • in my new manga im working on one of the main characters is named akira!

  • hello ^^

Thats really amazing.. i don't know how to use the brush in open canvas..

can you tell me? And what brush did u use and how you made it so smoothy?? i'm so confused in open canvas xD

  • man thats good ! ! ! ! X3 I wish I could do something like that XD ! ! Good job X3

  • Woah... I'm still soooo confused on how to do everything!!! GAH! Maybe I'm too dumb... XD

  • the first 1 i mean, i wrote my first comment when i only heard the first song^^

  • Awsome vid but kind of craapy song^^

  • do you use a tablet?

  • awesome its really good I wanna pen tablet tooo T___T

  • wow...it's...fantastic!awesome!amazing!

    ¨)

  • o_O'

    awseome!!

  • What tool did you use to erase the painting on the hair at 5:35 ?

Do you just tone down the the opactiy/flow?

Because I wanna know how to get rid of unnesscary painting without damaging my lineart.

  • Have you tried using a different layer for coloring? That way when you erase unnecessary color, the lineart won't be effected.

  • "Breathless" ? Do you know the manga Loveless ?

  • omg its hard to draw anything on the computer!i need help!how do you find the right colors to make it look real or w/e...how do you make a curve i cant even make a straight line!

  • thx for the tutorial

  • wow awesome drawing :P! and I love the first song ^O^...who sings it?

  • Thanks a lot! :D

The first song is called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles :D.

  • np ;)...and thanks, wow I never could knew it was from The Beatles...My sister loves them a lot!

  • that's awesome!

    *favorite! 8D

  • not much of a tutorial. just you showing off your cheesy anime artwork. anime is too easy to draw. who cares?!

  • True, anime is easy to draw, but for those who have had experience with realism before hand. However, consider that not everyone knows how to draw and need to see how it is done step by step. You may not agree but ofcourse, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it. Now why you just wasted your time in leaving a comment on my video, when there are of course hundreds of others who are like mine, is beyond me.

  • believe me anime is not that easy to draw....there's always people out there wondering how to draw anime....

  • its not easy at all, getting proportion right is hard. this guy/girl is a good drawer!

  • KAWAIII NE!DEMO I DOn'T Like the music YUCK!

  • Thanks a lot! Next time I'll try to put music that suits your taste! :D

  • ns draw

and do i have to pay to have canvas?

  • Nope, this is the freeware version which you can download for free. You can google it, and surely you'll find it. Just search for (free openCanvas download) :D
