Just to let everyone know that the desert eagle is impractical from a realistic perspective. So for any prospective gun hobbyists (new people) or etc, you might want to look at more simple pistols like the Glock or 1911 or even the .44 magnum. Just friendly advice, as you want your first gun really to give you an easy transistion to shooting, learning gun safety, and etc.

and btw..

There's not a single enforcement agency on the Earth that uses the Desert Eagle.

It has a high caliber with great stopping power- but other than that, it's heavy, unreliable, jams alot, Can't be holstered for shit, has the ergonomics of a brick, and Is an all around inconvenience in a battle situation. @poitertoip I own one of these and its not as impractical as you might think. It's just that the weight, size, and recoil put a lot of people off, though if handled properly it isn't that bad. My only complaint is that the factory magazines tend to have weak springs which lead to feeding problems. Other than that, it's great, and it's great at what it does, that being a semi-automatic magazine fed magnum handgun

Ok dickhead, it's time to put down the xbox controller and listen up. First of all the .50 AE (Desert Eagle) and the .50 BMG (Barrett) aren't the same round. Just because they both are supposed to be the same caliber doesn't mean they both are going to have the same terminal ballistics. (Hell, technically the bullets aren't even the same diamater.) Also, a Desert Eagle doesn't fit in yopur pocket. No, it really doesn't. Try firing one.

Now here is the part that might be confusing.....your Desert Eagle isn't going to do as much damage as you actually think it will. That .50 AE bullet is going to blast right through a human body, and every bit of energy the round still has was wasted-that is, it was NOT translated into damage. However you still have to deal with the massive recoil. I can put 2-3 rounds of a smaller caliber into a target in the time it takes me to reset from a single .50 AE. Think about it.

@Careohseen With jacketed hollowpoints, a .50 AE will expand on entrance and convert nearly all of that energy into damage. When a .50 AE exits an attacker, it'll be taking an eight inch cylinder of flesh out with it. Just the same, I agree it's impractical.

Regardless of the kinetic energy a round has prior to entering a squishy target, the only energy transfered to the target is the difference between the its energy on impact, and the energy upon exit. If the round completely stops, then 100% of its initial energy is lost, converted mechanically (moving and damaging tissue) and into heat.

Exits wounds have a reputation for being all nasty and deadly, however an exit wound is more of just a visual indication of damage, no the damage itself. It's like the exit wound is a cough, but the real issue is the person has the flu. I'm pretty damn sure that a .50AE is NOT going to take an "8 inch cylinder" out the back of a person. However you are free to find some pictures to show I'm wrong. Either way, the flesh that is ripped away from an exit would is all surface.

Theoretically a round only need to penetrate deeply enough to hit the inportant stuff buried inside the center. Any extra penetration is leaving the vital organs behind and plowing through the next layer of bone, muscle, and skin. Upon exiting, it's those last layers that suffer the extra "damage" from the exit wound. Its not as if the heart or lungs go flying out the backside.
