I have been a mechanic for almost 20 years and there is no doubt that ford builds the best trucks of "the big three". The powerstroke engine, however, is an absolute nightmare to work on.
277,000 miles?! dang i have the same truck but with 74,000 miles (very hard ranch miles) and its outlasted 5 newer fords and a dodge on the same place, awsome truck!
I remember back in the late 90s I was at a truck stop and a trucker went out the wrong way. They ended up stuck on a concrete island. The bottom of the semi was on the concrete of the island. Someone with a Ford truck (unsure the specifics of the truck) came and pulled that loaded semi off the island. First try it broke the heavy chain. Second try with a chain that looked like it could haul a train got the semi off the island. That day is when I come to have respect for Ford Trucks.
@yesiamanalien That's what Fords are for. The only trucks I've ever seen that were tougher are old "Binders", aka International trucks. They were heavy, ugly, and slow, but could take a beating like no other.
fords are bomb my friends all give me crap about me driving my 2000 7.3 powerstroke (311,000 miles) there all like cummins is better and duramax is better but for sure powerstroke is best!!!!

@jacobstern14048 No actually I've been driving severe duty, heavy haul trucks in NYC for 20 years now. The old 7.3 was bulletproof and lasted beyond forever. But the diesels Ford has put out since then have been crap. I have driven a Ford diesel for work since the 90's. Our new diesels are all ways in the shop. Not so with the old 7.3s
Thats VERY impressive, didnt think a 250 could do that in the snow but Im glad you lent a helping hand so that this video could be made. Im snooping around for a diesel truck now and powerstroke just added another peg to the board
I'm impressed...not impressed that the truck had the strength to pull the semi but that it was able to get the traction needed to do it with as sloppy as the road appears on the video. Nice work man. Fords are great trucks all the way
now that's a powerstroke for ya... pulling a fully loaded semi thru snow... i owned a 2002 super duty with the 6.0L... i miss my truck :( soon to have the same kind again
ford and dodge are simply the best made all around truck chevys got nothing on them except for there allison tranny sorry to say but dodge has the worst tranny ever built but there engines are great
and stated that the firs 24 valves are decent i dident say they sucked. i said the high outputs suck. go wach the vid of the high output cummins pulling on my channel tha just shows you cuz he has pulled like 8 times and broke evey time there garbage just face it
dude my brother has a high output 24 valve and its shit its broke twice and cost him 2 g to repair. he also has a 12 valve with 500,000 miles on it and only replaced tranny and axels. nothen with the motor. and the 6.4 has non wastegated TURBO'S!!! providing boost to a smaller variable geometry turbo. This system is designed to result in almost no turbo "lag" when taking off from a stop. The compound system is set up to provide a better throttle response while in motion to give a power flow.
It was working at around 1700 RPM - Hardly in the 4k range when you would be blowing a piston. Obviously dont have a very keen ear for diesels, or seem to know what your talking about. Minimize wheel spin and have the engine work at low RPM where diesels build most TQ
ok angryitalian???? th first powerstroke was a idi powerstroke and they did not have turbos..and josh your dumb the twin turbo powerstroke has more tourq then cummins and isuzu aka dmax.. and we all drive meens posers who think they know what there talkin about...and the only good cummins is the 12 valve. when the first 24s came out they were decent but the new high outputs are junk.
The 6.4 Liter powerstroke is not a twin turbo. Its a dual/variable vane turbo. Single turbo with two charge sides - one for low RPM and one for higher rpm. I can barely make out what you wrote because of the horrific grammar and spelling but you did state that the only good cummins was the 12v. Completely false, the 24 was better and more efficient in ALL WAYS. Then the common rail improved on the design again. Probably one of the best designed engines ever. Dont know where you get your info
@randomhero1172 the 24 was not better and more efficient in all ways. why do you think anyone making serious power with them get rid of the vp44 pump and use the p-pump from the 12v? both are good engines but the 12v is better as far as im concerned. im not trying to start a youtube argument here, just letting you know whats up
@randomhero1172 The 6.4 liter powerstroke is a twin turbo. It has a low end turbo and it has a second Variable Vane turbo for the higher end. I get my info from underneath the hood of the 6.4 liter diesels I work on for a living.
@randomhero1172 the 6.4L powerstroke isnt twin turboed but when i bought mine it said it was on the sticker and im still look for that other turbo lol.
and im not tryna argue with you but stock the 24v is better than the 12v but for some reason if you modify a 12v and 24v the 12v will come out better and it wouldnt take much to kill a 24v
If you looked at my earlier post i explain the 6.4 turbo. Many people call it a twin turbo or dual turbo, this is not incorrect but technically its not right. i often refer to it as a dual turbo just because its easy. Its a dual/variable vane turbo. Its just lingo or slang.
Not sure where you are getting your cummins info - a modified 24v would blow a similarly modified 12v away. I have both a 12v and 24v
@randomhero1172 Some people say the 12v is more fuel efficient and some say the 24v is. As for reliability 12 valves are more reliable than 24 and a mechanically controlled injection pump that is lubricated by engine oil and diesel fuel is more reliable than an injection pump that is electronically controlled and only lubricated by diesel fuel.
@randomhero1172 Just wondering but are you sure about that. I have looked pretty close at the set up and it looks a lot like a twin turbo when you get up close. Im not sure because it is a very confusing set up even when the turbo or turbos are by themselves
@fordpride101 jus thought i would inform you that the 6.4 powerstroke is not twinturbo dumb ass its a compound turbo and the 6.4 is the worst engine for put out thats why it only lasted a couple years and there making the new 6.7 scorpion diesl for ford dumb shit
I drive a 2004 ford f-250 6.0L diesel, it's just gutless. i haul around a 18' flat deck goose neck trailer with a 2004 S185 Bobcat with 68" broom attachment, My truck takes a shit just to go up a 10% grade hill. I had to buy a bullydog chip to get extra power out of my truck. It will be a very long time before i buy a FORD again. Next truck will be a dodge or GMC, not a chev though, the silverados are ugly.
@fordpride101 Close...the idi's were not referred to as powerstrokes. they were just "Diesel" or "Turbo diesel" the power stroke badge came with the introduction of the direct injection electronically controlled 7.3.
@fordpride101 fact the frist 6.9 and 7.3 idi and 7.3idiT diesels were not consider in the powerstroke family. powerstrokes came about from the bases of the 7.3l idi motor and the powerstroke was born mid 94 hence the 7.3l powerstroke. basically 7.3l idi is not a powerstroke its international motor.
@fordpride101 Actually on a dyno the real rear wheel torque, the Cummins has always made more torque than both the navistar(powerstroke) and izuzu(duramax). Although the Cummins hasalways made less HP than those two. And as for Cummins 24v being junk!LMAO!!!!!! Those ISB's have been and continue to be used reliably in not only the Dodge's but every other medium duty application not only here in North America but worldwide.
@nytmstr the cummins is slower then both in stock form anyways the only good cummins is 12v and dmaxx sucks anyways ha who in there right mind would put illumunum heads on a diesel haha but the cool thing is that theres more 7.3 powerstrokes on the road today then cummins and duramax and combined!
@nytmstr actually the ISB's are junk Cummins small engines are below par, but I'll speak nothing but praise for my ISX. Dodge diesels suck, that's why they have no resale value, Chevy is nothing to write home about that's why they can't even break even, Navistar only made the old 6.0 diesel for ford which was known for injector problems. but since has been replaced by a 6.3 designed & built by Ford.
@kdraper2007 The Cummins you say are junk started out years ago as the B3.9/B5.9 series and have been in use in real world medium duty, not to be confused with pick-up trucks, truck and generator applications. And the 6.7 is built by Ford.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
let me tell yall. we all drive cummins. and we test drove an 08 psd and it felt like a pinto. it was incredibly weak. i guess that because were used to driving a ctd.
I find that extremely hard to believe. I doubt you ever drove the 08 PSD. Im extremely un bias about my truck selection and own both dodge (with cummins) and ford (with PSD) And i feel that dodge is BY FAR the cheaper feeling truck. the 08 PSD was one of the most solid trucks i have ever driven. I havnt driven a new dodge but im sure they are really nice and solid.
@joshthemo let me tell you fag boy. my first truck was a 12v and i got a 99 powerstroke and it yanks the ol 12v. bigger turbo more torque and more weight.
wasnt struggling at all, it was working you didnt listen close enough.....the fact that this truck did this in the snow (traction) is impressive in of itself, i drive a ford my self and speak highly of its quality/power performance.
gotta love the 7.3 i love my 97 i think im gunna buy a 2002 ....and gas jobs pretty much suck espicaly like 80s yeah your not cool just cuz u have a lift and big tires and a 454 or 460 thos r terrible on gas too i could pull 15000lbs and still get 16 17 mpg if the old gaser could do it it would get like 5mpg hahaha
A nice fellow helped out another nice fellow. in this video. The one fellow had a nice F250 that did job nicely. Chances are an F150 could have done it, maybe even with the small 4.6 L small V8. It is not like the two fellows got up to highway speed, they just got out of the intersection at strolling old man with a walking cane speed. More than likely an F250 with a lawnmower engine and granny gears would have done the job. The snow adds great effect tho.
lol that f250 is HELPING!!! that semi.. not pulling the full load..look..take a mid 80s one ton 4by4 dully with a built 454 and 4 speed with granny gear..and do a little better job for $10,000 less invested in the truck pulling . run that powerstroke without a TURBO and its just a stroke lol. nothing more.. put the same turbo on the well built !! forged crank rods ECT.. 454 and get 600hp and 550tq insted of 350hp and 500tq ..TONS MORE FUN TO DRIVE with out the mpg o well..
Your comment is so poorly written i cannot even make sense of the stupid redneck bullshit you wrote. Turbo / non turbo? $10,000 less ? granny gear? Where the fuck did you get this shit? your pulling it all our of nowhere. The truck has a turbo, no one every said it didnt ... no one mentioned anything about a $10,000 built rig, no body mentioned any piece of shit "mid 80's" 4x4. My truck is 4x4, and any truck from the "mid 80's" is to be laughed at compared to modern trucks/diesels.
@randomhero1172 Was not poorly written. You just was not smart enough to understand my points.I just get so pissed at people, with there fancy ass high dollar trucks, like power strokes, duramaxs ect.Thinking that there the only ones that can do stuff like that.Calm down, never said you were thinking that or said that . I was just making a point that you can do that with an old school truck. Look ,i cant afford a nice diesel like yours, so i have to stick with gas burners. You were HELPING !
@wildthing302 Like you said a built Chevy could do it but, a Ford doesn't need to be modded as you can see by this vidio it can do it stock. That semi would disassemble your Shitty Chevy that would have to be built.
@wildthing302 No offense to the vid owners requests of not arguing about motors, but a 454 would need to be built up to pull anything wouldnt it? Same year 460 will pull the Frame out from under the chevy. You are an idiot, of course a built big block using granny low could pull more than a stock diesel. A specialy built motor with low enough gears can pull anything. The trick is pulling with an all stock set-up. You fail miserably.
you're an idiot, all diesels need a turbo because they need a lot more air to fill the chambers. Def must be red neck with you're 80s truck preference and ignorance. This truck in the video just makes you jealous and its so easy to insult someone you envy.
hey any body reading this that knows trucks, im 16 and just got an f350 diesel ive had ppl ask me to pull things like this in fact ive been in this very situation do i need to know or do anything specific when im pullin something that big?
Most important Always use a strap, NEVER use a chain.Straps have stretch and give to them, chains often can break and send pieces of steel flying at lethal speeds. Always hookup to a solid area, preferably a tow hook, the frame, or a trailer hitch. Keep wheel spin to a minimum, remember - diesels make all their torque at LOW rpm. Its about torque and TRACTION not spinning your wheels. Keep things slow and under control and always have a spotter. My strap is rated at 30,000lbs(15 tons) goodluck
single axle tractors are bad for winter driving, My tractor has dual drives so all I have to do is lock in the second axle. haven't needed a pull all winter. I'm in the market for a F-250 diesel pickup. I might end up buying one in Texas, where you can get them cheap, & driving it home to Indiana.
this is an awesome video dude SWEET JOB on pulling that stuck semi. It doesn't matter the make or model. I love the sound of diesels. HA won't catch a mini cooper pulling a stuck semi. so i guess that proves my point. Powerstroke, Cummins, Duramax they all have their pros and cons but again Nice video dude
Well you may have personally seen a Duramax fuck up, i haven't. But i will agree with you, they all have there downsides. Whether it be powerstrokes lack of speed and mileage (which really doesnt matter to some people), duramaxs lack of pulling power in comparison with the powerstroke, or dodges shitty transmission they pair with the Cummins.

I've seen people do this. Lol nice truck. FORD FTW.

Thats VERY impressive, didnt think a 250 could do that in the snow but Im glad you lent a helping hand so that this video could be made. Im snooping around for a diesel truck now and powerstroke just added another peg to the board
sharpshooter40 1 year ago
I'm impressed...not impressed that the truck had the strength to pull the semi but that it was able to get the traction needed to do it with as sloppy as the road appears on the video. Nice work man. Fords are great trucks all the way

now that's a powerstroke for ya... pulling a fully loaded semi thru snow... i owned a 2002 super duty with the 6.0L... i miss my truck :( soon to have the same kind again

and stated that the firs 24 valves are decent i dident say they sucked. i said the high outputs suck. go wach the vid of the high output cummins pulling on my channel tha just shows you cuz he has pulled like 8 times and broke evey time there garbage just face it
fordpride101 1 year ago
dude my brother has a high output 24 valve and its shit its broke twice and cost him 2 g to repair. he also has a 12 valve with 500,000 miles on it and only replaced tranny and axels. nothen with the motor. and the 6.4 has non wastegated TURBO'S!!! providing boost to a smaller variable geometry turbo. This system is designed to result in almost no turbo "lag" when taking off from a stop. The compound system is set up to provide a better throttle response while in motion to give a power flow.
fordpride101 1 year ago
It was working at around 1700 RPM - Hardly in the 4k range when you would be blowing a piston. Obviously dont have a very keen ear for diesels, or seem to know what your talking about. Minimize wheel spin and have the engine work at low RPM where diesels build most TQ
randomhero1172 1 year ago 12
ok angryitalian???? th first powerstroke was a idi powerstroke and they did not have turbos..and josh your dumb the twin turbo powerstroke has more tourq then cummins and isuzu aka dmax.. and we all drive meens posers who think they know what there talkin about...and the only good cummins is the 12 valve. when the first 24s came out they were decent but the new high outputs are junk.
fordpride101 1 year ago
The 6.4 Liter powerstroke is not a twin turbo. Its a dual/variable vane turbo. Single turbo with two charge sides - one for low RPM and one for higher rpm. I can barely make out what you wrote because of the horrific grammar and spelling but you did state that the only good cummins was the 12v. Completely false, the 24 was better and more efficient in ALL WAYS. Then the common rail improved on the design again. Probably one of the best designed engines ever. Dont know where you get your info
randomhero1172 1 year ago 10
@randomhero1172 the 24 was not better and more efficient in all ways. why do you think anyone making serious power with them get rid of the vp44 pump and use the p-pump from the 12v? both are good engines but the 12v is better as far as im concerned. im not trying to start a youtube argument here, just letting you know whats up
everynameistaken567 1 year ago
@randomhero1172 The 6.4 liter powerstroke is a twin turbo. It has a low end turbo and it has a second Variable Vane turbo for the higher end. I get my info from underneath the hood of the 6.4 liter diesels I work on for a living.
Danienn 1 year ago
@Danienn That said, I love this video.
Danienn 1 year ago
@randomhero1172 the 6.4L powerstroke isnt twin turboed but when i bought mine it said it was on the sticker and im still look for that other turbo lol.
and im not tryna argue with you but stock the 24v is better than the 12v but for some reason if you modify a 12v and 24v the 12v will come out better and it wouldnt take much to kill a 24v
iwanna302 1 year ago
@iwanna302
I have both a 12v and 24v
randomhero1172 1 year ago
@randomhero1172 wouldnt take much for a 12v to out due the 24v. cummins built the 12v better.just cause it has more valves doesnt mean its better
iwanna302 1 year ago
@randomhero1172 Some people say the 12v is more fuel efficient and some say the 24v is. As for reliability 12 valves are more reliable than 24 and a mechanically controlled injection pump that is lubricated by engine oil and diesel fuel is more reliable than an injection pump that is electronically controlled and only lubricated by diesel fuel.
johntrebec 1 year ago
@randomhero1172 Just wondering but are you sure about that. I have looked pretty close at the set up and it looks a lot like a twin turbo when you get up close. Im not sure because it is a very confusing set up even when the turbo or turbos are by themselves
gbonesrider 1 year ago
@fordpride101 jus thought i would inform you that the 6.4 powerstroke is not twinturbo dumb ass its a compound turbo and the 6.4 is the worst engine for put out thats why it only lasted a couple years and there making the new 6.7 scorpion diesl for ford dumb shit
cummins59ish 1 year ago
@fordpride101
MrCraigmire123 1 year ago
@fordpride101 Close...the idi's were not referred to as powerstrokes. they were just "Diesel" or "Turbo diesel" the power stroke badge came with the introduction of the direct injection electronically controlled 7.3.
jakey756 1 year ago
@jakey756 idk about turbo diesel man maybe diesel r somthen
fordpride101 1 year ago
@fordpride101 The "turbo diesel" badge was used for the 1993-1994.5 IDI's that were ordered with a factory ATS turbo.
jakey756 1 year ago
@fordpride101 LONG LIVE THE 7.3
jrj1534 1 year ago
@fordpride101 fact the frist 6.9 and 7.3 idi and 7.3idiT diesels were not consider in the powerstroke family. powerstrokes came about from the bases of the 7.3l idi motor and the powerstroke was born mid 94 hence the 7.3l powerstroke. basically 7.3l idi is not a powerstroke its international motor.
99ShelbyDurango 1 year ago
@fordpride101 Actually on a dyno the real rear wheel torque, the Cummins has always made more torque than both the navistar(powerstroke) and izuzu(duramax). Although the Cummins hasalways made less HP than those two. And as for Cummins 24v being junk!LMAO!!!!!! Those ISB's have been and continue to be used reliably in not only the Dodge's but every other medium duty application not only here in North America but worldwide.
nytmstr 1 year ago
@nytmstr the cummins is slower then both in stock form anyways the only good cummins is 12v and dmaxx sucks anyways ha who in there right mind would put illumunum heads on a diesel haha but the cool thing is that theres more 7.3 powerstrokes on the road today then cummins and duramax and combined!
fordpride101 1 year ago
@nytmstr actually the ISB's are junk Cummins small engines are below par, but I'll speak nothing but praise for my ISX. Dodge diesels suck, that's why they have no resale value, Chevy is nothing to write home about that's why they can't even break even, Navistar only made the old 6.0 diesel for ford which was known for injector problems. but since has been replaced by a 6.3 designed & built by Ford.
kdraper2007 8 months ago
@kdraper2007 The Cummins you say are junk started out years ago as the B3.9/B5.9 series and have been in use in real world medium duty, not to be confused with pick-up trucks, truck and generator applications. And the 6.7 is built by Ford.

The snow adds great effect tho.
royalbrainwave 2 years ago
lol that f250 is HELPING!!! that semi.. not pulling the full load..look..take a mid 80s one ton 4by4 dully with a built 454 and 4 speed with granny gear..and do a little better job for $10,000 less invested in the truck pulling . run that powerstroke without a TURBO and its just a stroke lol. nothing more.. put the same turbo on the well built !! forged crank rods ECT.. 454 and get 600hp and 550tq insted of 350hp and 500tq ..TONS MORE FUN TO DRIVE with out the mpg o well..
wildthing302 2 years ago
Your comment is so poorly written i cannot even make sense of the stupid redneck bullshit you wrote. Turbo / non turbo? $10,000 less ? granny gear? Where the fuck did you get this shit? your pulling it all our of nowhere. The truck has a turbo, no one every said it didnt ... no one mentioned anything about a $10,000 built rig, no body mentioned any piece of shit "mid 80's" 4x4. My truck is 4x4, and any truck from the "mid 80's" is to be laughed at compared to modern trucks/diesels.
randomhero1172 2 years ago
@randomhero1172 Was not poorly written. You just was not smart enough to understand my points.I just get so pissed at people, with there fancy ass high dollar trucks, like power strokes, duramaxs ect.Thinking that there the only ones that can do stuff like that.Calm down, never said you were thinking that or said that . I was just making a point that you can do that with an old school truck. Look ,i cant afford a nice diesel like yours, so i have to stick with gas burners. You were HELPING !
wildthing302 2 years ago
@wildthing302 Like you said a built Chevy could do it but, a Ford doesn't need to be modded as you can see by this vidio it can do it stock. That semi would disassemble your Shitty Chevy that would have to be built.
88soulsurvivor 2 years ago 3
@wildthing302 yeah right then what blow up as your pulling?
100000014 2 years ago
@100000014
wildthing302 2 years ago
@wildthing302 No offense to the vid owners requests of not arguing about motors, but a 454 would need to be built up to pull anything wouldnt it? Same year 460 will pull the Frame out from under the chevy. You are an idiot, of course a built big block using granny low could pull more than a stock diesel. A specialy built motor with low enough gears can pull anything. The trick is pulling with an all stock set-up. You fail miserably.
benchn280 2 years ago
revisit both rigs 200,000 miles later and the 80's dually is in for its second motor overhaul; the diesel is in for another oil change...
brob1969 2 years ago
you're an idiot, all diesels need a turbo because they need a lot more air to fill the chambers. Def must be red neck with you're 80s truck preference and ignorance. This truck in the video just makes you jealous and its so easy to insult someone you envy.

hey any body reading this that knows trucks, im 16 and just got an f350 diesel ive had ppl ask me to pull things like this in fact ive been in this very situation do i need to know or do anything specific when im pullin something that big?
ford4life366 2 years ago
Most important Always use a strap, NEVER use a chain.Straps have stretch and give to them, chains often can break and send pieces of steel flying at lethal speeds. Always hookup to a solid area, preferably a tow hook, the frame, or a trailer hitch. Keep wheel spin to a minimum, remember - diesels make all their torque at LOW rpm. Its about torque and TRACTION not spinning your wheels. Keep things slow and under control and always have a spotter. My strap is rated at 30,000lbs(15 tons) goodluck
randomhero1172 2 years ago
yup, my dad says the same thing, and he always has a strap
FutureMarine246 2 years ago
@ford4life366 Also if you are going to be pulling in like snow or mud with 4-wheel drive 4Low is better then 4High at slow speeds
ilovemyg8gt 2 years ago
single axle tractors are bad for winter driving, My tractor has dual drives so all I have to do is lock in the second axle. haven't needed a pull all winter.

Powerstroke, Cummins, Duramax they all have their pros and cons but again Nice video dude
sk8therbhoy1432 2 years ago 3
that was amazing
9ames9 2 years ago
Well you may have personally seen a Duramax fuck up, i haven't. But i will agree with you, they all have there downsides. Whether it be powerstrokes lack of speed and mileage (which really doesnt matter to some people), duramaxs lack of pulling power in comparison with the powerstroke, or dodges shitty transmission they pair with the Cummins.
mallard92 2 years ago 2
I drive an 03 Freightliner Century. My dads pickup is an 06 F-250 Superduty Turbo Diesel.
Done this more snowy mornings than I care to remember. The key here is that tow strap, because it has some give, makes this a whole lot easier.
Ps. Wont see imports doing this!
