  • Thanks for posting real classic country! Dolly &Porter were made for each other and there music is timeless!

  • Is this a cover at Tom Paxtons song "last thing on my mind" ?

  • @interest1908 yes

  • I cannot find this full album online. Can anyone help me out?

  • You want to blow your minds .. go to THe Move's Last thing on your mind. Yeah its hard to go from country to rock but this is a special song for the open-minded . Hey I don't like country but I like this so you try a little rock and roll. Yeah Tom Paxtons is better but the Move is just so creative and wonderful .

  • IF u like this song u will love SOULMOBILIN both beautiful songs

  • O.k., now that's better. But check out the live version of this great Tom Paxton song on another YT post. Waggoner goofs it up throughout and you just want to throw your shoe at him for making light of such a somber introspective song about regret and longing. At least here, he just does his job and causes no trouble. He really sucked.

  • Great country music.

  • Now this is country music thanks for posting!

  • I forgot how great they were together!!

  • Amazing they make such a fantastic duet.

  • A good version of this song on You Tube is by Kelly Hogan and Scott Ligon.

  • This was actually a folk song from the New York and Boston scenes in the 1950 and 1960s (see Tom Paxton, et al). They do a good version of it though.

  • Clarence White "73 version and Herb Pedersen '84 version are super too. I just recorded it in a bluegrass format.

  • SueStar112 thanks for posting one of my alltime favorite country songs! Thanks again!

  • there likely never will be another duo such as Porter and Dolly.

we all know that it hurt him deepley when she left him, as she had to.

god bless the good people of the rural areas, who were mostly much less fortunate than others,. they grew up as kids in 'tough times.' they are the quintessential 'common folk' who helped make the country great. who are they? they are patriotic, good, hardworking people.

  • @muley321

    Well said.

We forget too often in our hurry, scurry world that our roots

    go back to small towns.

  • The best country music duo ever! Wonderful voices!!

  • I'm normally a metal head and dance freak, but this song is wonderful.

    Thanks for posting!

  • kinda reminds me of lyndsay buckingham's "holiday road" from national lampoon's vacation.

    -fellow metal fan

  • This song is absolutely amazing.

One of my favorite duets (:

  • whatever version, it's one of my favourites

  • this like an awsome song

  • I think I heard Porter say they learned this one from the Glaser Brothers.

  • It don't get no better than this. It's like Porter and Dolly's voice were made for each other.

    Thanx,

    Sam

  • OK. I'm going to try this ONE MORE TIME:

Aaah. REAL Country Music. How I do miss it. Thank God for digital venues like YouTube. Maybe we can preserve it.

  • Thanks for posting this!!! I absolutely LOVE this song!!!!

  • Thanks for the song. I lovve Porter and Dolly

  • Not quite as good as the original (e.g. the jolly, upbeat accompaniment is out of place with the regretful lament of the words) but country miles closer to it in quality than those of many other big name coverers who have made bizarre, pointless and marring alterations to the melody and/or rhythm. I especially like the 'back-and-forth' between the two fine voices in the third verse.

  • I have to agree with the music vs. lyric issues, try Mary Hopkin on her "Recollections" album. very true to Tom and his vision.

  • These songs ar the best thank every body

    wfadkins

  • I've been trying to find this song for the last 10 years thanks

  • Yes, this was Porter and Dolly's first hit, related in 1967, reaching the conuntry singles top-ten in December of that year. A classic song by folk singer and songwriter Tom Paxton, and a perfect version by Porter and Dolly...by the way, this is my favorite of Porter and Dolly's album covers too!

  • Thanks so much for posting this beautiful duet. I have always said their version is the best.
