actually I would. you're only assuming. have you seen ingolf wunder? he looks like he's asphyxiating while performing chopin mazurka's. i actually find this kim's performance quite good, i don't know what i was thinking a year ago.....
The orchestra is bland and is uncommitted (no sense of urgency at all). They don't deserve to play Brahms. What's with the French Horn? Totally lackluster. Timpani needs to eat some high protein food. As for the solo, I do not like how young kids nowadays seem to learn from the worst of them all, Lang Lang, who tries to make up for their inability to interpret with exaggerated motions and awkward faces. Play with some fire and passion.
He came across MUCH better in the hall and MUCH better in the earlier rounds. As an overall winner he was the obvious choice. His recitals were packed out - he has everyhing at 18...he will be very exciting to hear in the future when he grows into the role even more. One of the few pianists to really take risks and be interesting. If you get a chance to hear him play scriabin DO he understands this music!
I will be fortunate enough to see this rising young star perform at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester with the fabulous Halle Orchestra under the incomparable Mark Elder in January 2008.Can't wait.
he looks like william hung. note the exessive pedal and exaggeration body movement. i did not find the performance staggering or brilliant, just heartfelt

He is a good musician not just a well-trained student. i'm so happy to hear a young talent with genuine musicality which is so rare these days.

This is indeed a rising star..... It is so hard to get Brahms' music to communicate, yet Kim did a phenomenal job here.
