i'm guess really on the fence about it. i think Shogun is probably not close to 100%, given his recent knee surgery for the third freakin time, in which case Jones will dominate. most likely this fight ends very early one way or the other, just depends which Shogun shows up like you say.
I hope you're right about shogun. Great breakdown as always. I think maybe you're not giving quite enough credit to Jones' top game, which is far more devastating than Rashad's, and I think he's even a better wrestler than Rashad too, so I'm not sure why you would have picked Rashad in the original matchup but Shogun now. According to the odds, which of course can be wrong, Rashad was a big underdog and now Shogun is a the underdog. I think Shogun wins too, but Jones is the tougher test imo.

He didn't just walk in off the street, he was a wrestler, and a serious athlete beforehand. I don't think Jones lack of time training would really demean MMA. He has more fights than most of the UFC HW division do, and no one complains about that particularly. Still I think a Shogun victory is more likely, as long as he is fit, superior striking and ground game in my opinion, the only thing Jones has on his side is wrestling, but Shoguns sweeps are so damn tricky he should be able to neutralise

@themmavoice1988 I think Manhandled is a little strong of a word. Definitely got taken down with ease, but he was basically able to stand up and will and take Coleman down almost willingly also. Also keep in mind that the Shogun who fought then and the one who fought Liddell and Machida were completely different. With that being said, I do think that Jones can win this fight if he utilizes his wrestling right...although I expect, and hope to see a patented Shogun KO.

You know everything aside, I know that Shogun has always been a legend in the sport, but I don't think he is near as talented as Bones Jones is. I just feel like Jones is part of a new generation of freak athletes who are that much better then everyone else in the sport. My 2 cents: The reason people come in from the streets is that there is only 1 person controlling the matchups. Dana white. If there was a point system with fighters many of the top class wouldnt get robbed. How many times does finch have to fight before a title shot? If another superstar like brock came to the ufc how long do you reckon it would take for him to get a shot? The fact that the fans are being fed fights that "they want" or that are "entertaining" often messes up the roster.
@drowzyus360 Dana's not the only one, but Dana's standards of matchmaking are obviously going to be in effect by matchmaker Joe Silva.
And giving the fans the matches they want probably can cause problems as you say, but at the same time it pleases the fans. It seems like right now the UFC's #1 priority is growth and let's be real. Fitch is a hard sell to potential fans of the sport.

i'm guess really on the fence about it. i think Shogun is probably not close to 100%, given his recent knee surgery for the third freakin time, in which case Jones will dominate. most likely this fight ends very early one way or the other, just depends which Shogun shows up like you say.

I hope you're right about shogun. Great breakdown as always. I think maybe you're not giving quite enough credit to Jones' top game, which is far more devastating than Rashad's, and I think he's even a better wrestler than Rashad too, so I'm not sure why you would have picked Rashad in the original matchup but Shogun now. According to the odds, which of course can be wrong, Rashad was a big underdog and now Shogun is a the underdog. I think Shogun wins too, but Jones is the tougher test imo.

Shogun would knock out Rashad (think about it...) It wasnt a good match up for Rashad. Stylistically it would of been an easy fight for Shogun easier then that circus act Jones. Greese Jacksons pulled Rashad and Put Jones who has Legs for arms to make it more difficult to get inside and Knock him out. I Pray Greesy Jacksons Strategy back fires, And Bones gets Ruined in the most humiliating possible fashion. Know one deserves it more then Jones to face plant it By a Smashing punch to the face.

He didn't just walk in off the street, he was a wrestler, and a serious athlete beforehand. I don't think Jones lack of time training would really demean MMA. He has more fights than most of the UFC HW division do, and no one complains about that particularly. Still I think a Shogun victory is more likely, as long as he is fit, superior striking and ground game in my opinion, the only thing Jones has on his side is wrestling, but Shoguns sweeps are so damn tricky he should be able to neutralise

I think Shogun has the ability to sweep jones, he has always had really good sweeps and Jones doesn't really have that experience on top holding someone down. So I'm picking Shogun via ground and pound in the second round.

@themmavoice1988 I think Manhandled is a little strong of a word. Definitely got taken down with ease, but he was basically able to stand up and will and take Coleman down almost willingly also. Also keep in mind that the Shogun who fought then and the one who fought Liddell and Machida were completely different. With that being said, I do think that Jones can win this fight if he utilizes his wrestling right...although I expect, and hope to see a patented Shogun KO.

You know the thing about Jones is that freaky 84 inch reach advantage because his striking isn't crazy impressive he just beats everybody to the punch with those long arms.Its hard to catch someone when they can throw and land a punch a block away.Even with his wrestling did you see how he took Bader down so easy?He just stretched out those long arms grabbed a leg and down he went.Jones is a hard guy to prepare for not skill wise because Shogun is superior there but those phyiscal gifts he has.

You know everything aside, I know that Shogun has always been a legend in the sport, but I don't think he is near as talented as Bones Jones is. I just feel like Jones is part of a new generation of freak athletes who are that much better then everyone else in the sport. He has evolved every time he fights just like GSP, who holds a title currently. I just think Jones is too powerful, too quick, that it will make up for his lack of experience.

Shogan's cardio,explosiveness, standup and BJJ is his advantage. His weakness is his takedown defense...Machida took him down way too easy. Hopefully he has improved a ton on that. Jon Jones' strength, wrestling and gnp is his advantage. Realistically Jon Jones only had 5 weeks of training and not 6 because of the 1 week rest every fighter has to have. So I'm picking Shogun by KO round 2. Shogun in the stand up, Jon Jones on the ground (top position)

I heard some where (Espn) that shogun knee was injure again and he got tsome surgeries in his belly, if he fought through all of that and still knock out tough person like Machida, that is a true warrior.

I agree with you about Jones getting his title shot to early. But Rashad got injured, and there worn't any body else who deserved it, And I really don't want to see Shogun absent any longer

i think you got it a little wrong karsten, i think whats messed up is when rashad was going for the belt him and jon jones was preaching this "oh we at greg jackson's camp dont fight each othe, we wont do that" and it seems like rashad wanted that cause he had the title shot and jon jones could of been his guy to hold down all the contenders, then when jones got the title shot, rashad was like "well ill fight him, i aint passin up a title shot"

@NightManiacsInc yea but people kinda take that outta context, if you watch the interview what jon jones said was "i wouldnt be willing to get fired for not fighting rashad weather or not its for the belt, and i dont think he would want fired over it either" and thats what he said, and people took that as jones said he would fight him, think about it, if it was get fired or fight this person would you fight them if you were in mma? lol

people kinda take it out of context ?! not me, i saw the whole thing & he pretty much said he would be willing to fight him,fitch& koscheck on the other hand said they would NEVER fight, fitch even said he'd move up a weight class if koscheck beat GSP& koscheck said he'd either put on muscle& fight at 185 or cut his arm off & fight at lightweight, those guys are being true to their word unlike jones', & how come he didnt say right from the beginning ? jones said it 1st not rashad

@NightManiacsInc i watched the whole entire interview too they didnt show the whole thing on versus, i got it from ariel hawanis site and he said he wouldnt get fired for not fighting him, but when rashad was going for the belt he said he wouldnt fight rashad for the belt.. then when jones got the title shot they asked rashad if he would move down to 185 if jones won the title and before jones said anything about it rashad said "i had to cut weight in college for wrestling im not doing it again"

umm i saw the whole interveiw too, & im talking about the interview from march 3rd on the sanchez/kampmann fight, jones' was the first to say he would fight rashad, then like a week later they asked rashad about it & he said he's not a punk & that he would, but jones was defnitely the 1st to say he'd fight him

@NightManiacsInc yea i know which interview you mean, its the one where jones said he wouldnt get fired for not fighting rashad, and it was from the ufc on versus 3 and they were supposed to show the 2nd have of the interview after it was over but they never did thats why i went to hawanis site and watched it... its kinda like how rashad is crying cause jones said on the phone conference he dont wanna talk about rashad he wants to talk about shogun, like whats he supposed to say???

My 2 cents: The reason people come in from the streets is that there is only 1 person controlling the matchups. Dana white. If there was a point system with fighters many of the top class wouldnt get robbed. How many times does finch have to fight before a title shot? If another superstar like brock came to the ufc how long do you reckon it would take for him to get a shot? The fact that the fans are being fed fights that "they want" or that are "entertaining" often messes up the roster.

@drowzyus360 Dana's not the only one, but Dana's standards of matchmaking are obviously going to be in effect by matchmaker Joe Silva.
And giving the fans the matches they want probably can cause problems as you say, but at the same time it pleases the fans. It seems like right now the UFC's #1 priority is growth and let's be real. Fitch is a hard sell to potential fans of the sport.
