They should've chosen another actor for charlie. in "flowers for algernon" charlie, i dnt know, i felt he was better. i felt he had another voice. If i hadnt read the book i wouldnt have like the movie
Read the short story in Launguage Arts and have to do a project on it now. I heard there was a movie and wanted to check it out! Aw I love Charly! I just want to hug him all the time!

Great movie, although I was always annoyed that they changed the title, Flowers for Algernon always sounded so much better to me. Cliff won his oscar by going full retard but then later in the movie going full genius and then retard again, I call it a Robertson Loop.
Damn, stupid e-learning project, i'm supposed to watch the entire series of Charly Gordon and make a movie review == anyone can help me do? I would greatly appreciate it. :DD
Hmmm I have recently re read this book and I am dissapointed with this opening. They make him really look like a child which he is mentally but doesnt lay with children! I also hate how they make him out to be the dumbest in his school for adults while in the book he is average among his peers but he has alot more confidence!
I watched this in my homeclass. Never watch with idiots, because I couldnt hear ANYTHING from the movie, everyone was being stupid and talking about how "funny" or "scary" the movie was, or how the kissing scene was "rape". GOD I hate my school.
I'm in 8th grade, we just read the book and I think its very interesting and intriguing. It really shows the depth of the human mind. I find mental illness quite interesting and I very much enjoyed this novel as well as the film, titled "Rainman" (1988), starring Dustin Hoffman.
read the book in middle school and never seen it since im 24 yrs old now and for some reason i remmeber it alot and always wanted to see the movie cause our teacher made us watch it. good movie.
White people were pretty evil in the 1960s as this movie shows. Whites would think NOTHING of making fun of Minorities and Mentally Challanged people like Charlie.
It is sad that Whites STILL have problems in these areas in 2010.
I can remember reading a movie critics review of CHARLY decades ago when I was a child...he described the film as "bittersweet", and I remember wondering what the word meant. After I saw the film I knew. The first movie that ever made me cry...30 plus years later, it still does.
we watched this movie after we read the book. i loved it. there were so many funny parts. and i love how Charly is played by the guy who plays Uncle Ben in Spiderman.
lol we read a shortened version of the book in language arts and now were watchin the movie. weve watched a lot of it but i just wanna watch it again just because i can lol
The shorter version is found in school text books for high school I think. Or was it middle school? Anyway, it's a abridged version with some major differences.
The short story had:
1. Obviously shorter.
2. Charlie didn't have a sister or meet his mother.
3. There was little/no references in his childhood
4. He had a boss/worker relationship with his boss, Donner. In the full book he had a fatherly relationship.
we in malaysia also got to read the book in my teaching english through literature course.its such a nice story and pity charly for whats happened to him.

Black and white? They barely started color films in the 40'S..but it didnt get popular till much later..The first color film was actually The Wizard of Oz which was made in 1939..
Thank you for posting the whole real movie! I love the book "Flowers for Algernon", and I'd been wanting to see this movie, but I don't have a TV, VCR, or DVD player where I'm living right now.
In the story, he works at a plastic box company

Yeah, so is Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery". But, you know what? In school, no one is really paying attention. In school, we read because we are told to and we do so in a mechanical fashion. The contents of what we're reading don't really have meaning, as a consequence. Even if the meaning is discussed (and the teacher doesn't get it wrong, as mine often did) it's not going to take hold. Any learning done under coercion doesn't take hold in the mind.
