  • Arowhite I doubt it canned laughter coz I laughed my fuckin ass off and it takes a lot to make me do that

  • Who could possibly take a violent dislike to Hugh

  • 71's people minds are really a mystery.

  • Awsome

  • these overused laughs are ruining the performance which is amazing

  • @arowhite I believe those are real. There's many ABOFAL sketches that show shots of a live studio audience. Can't blame 'em for finding it funny ^.^

  • Whats the name of the song Hugh did that basically is about doing stuff with each other but mumbling out when it came to saying it?

  • @OmegaRFox something with "protest song"

  • Was this based on anything or anybody in particular?

  • @OmegaRFox No, he composed it entirely himself

  • @callumAS I was going to ask the same thing as OmegaRFox... I assumed this was supposed to imitate an artist that was popular at the time? I'm too young to know for sure :(

  • The way some of his songs are witty and his piano accompaniment reminds me of Tom Lehrer

  • i was face to face with this man today... there was a few seconds of silent eye contact... and i was a happy lady... god bless the BBC Radio bulding foyer place!!! ..... im a happy lady!! *miaow* xxxx

  • OMG it's Jeremy Carkson

  • @guilhasludatej Clarkson

  • @guilhasludatej I don't think he looks like Jeremy Clarkson... O.o

  • @DeathByTarantula Its the curly type hair

  • @guilhasludatej I was thinking he looked like he could be Clarkson's brother in this.

  • I'm singing this at my school's pop show! :D

  • Went a bit Kermit at the end there. What a great song, one for the ages. :') Estuary!

  • i like this song :)

  • So funny, and well-composed too

  • so what kept up apart

    is not really a mystery

  • I hear he has a photographic memory.

  • I died at estuary... XDDD

  • Thames water authority lmao I love this song, short simple melodic even and utterly stupid, first ep of Fry and Laurie was a gem

  • Mr. Dalliard! We've been activated! Haha

  • as soon as Hugh said "Mystery" I had to pause the video and take a few minutes to compose myself oh my god

  • I just burst out laughing in public when he said 'Estuary, I live in an Estuary'

  • i love this so much :) it's sooo much better than the 20 years later version and it makes more sense...

  • WHAT DO YOU WANT WILSON

  • that's really awesome. the older version he does inside the actor's studio he changed it and before dead since 1973 (changed to 1993) he pauses....knowing that what he's gonna say next he doesn't want to, a comedic point totally different than in the original.

  • I have to say this song, although being hilarious, it's actually a wonderful composition.

  • timeless..

  • I'm gonna sing this at my school concert

  • @SCREAM5809 Then you are awesome.

  • @GriffinPilgrim Thanks!!!

  • @SCREAM5809 already did :P

  • @SCREAM5809

    Please upload it :)

  • @SCREAM5809 No video? :P

  • 68 people died in 1973 .. :)

  • I spit out my wine at "Esssstuarrryy". Fucking brilliant. You just can't possibly see it coming.

  • 68 dislikes - Well, I'd love to see you guys pull off something like this. Genius work.

  • I love this song, it really is pure genius. I've found myself humming it a lot lately. Amazing that all the music on that show was Hugh. I first fell in love with Hugh as Mr. Palmer in Sense & Sensibility and was so happy when I could see him on a daily basic as House.

  • AWESOME

  • I like Hugh Laurie better like a tragedian than comedian. O_o

  • Pure genius - fave is just the randomness of estuary lol

  • 68 people have been dead since 1973

  • Comment removed

  • From the very first word he sung I had a huge grin on my face.

  • Funny

  • lol, at 0:41 did he just look at the wrong camera?

  • @samgamgee07 If he did, he corrected himself.

  • @samgamgee07

Yep, they don't mind keeping in mistakes. Series 1 had so many smirks and improvisations.

  • @samgamgee07 can you watch into two cams at the same time?:)

  • This is the most beautiful love song I've ever heard.

  • OH My God... This Was Recorded... 23 years ago... Incredible... But Still Hugh Laurie its making history as House.. He has a great career! As an actor and a singer XD

  • house ftw

  • @1234doawee

No. Hugh Laurie for the win.

  • @gaaraamir I know and tragic aswell.

  • @Stalky24 ...me too, replay, repeat repeat ;) ( I keep posting this on facebook so ppl are deleting me left right and centre, as I'm apparently meant to be a "professional singer").....pffft...FANTSASTIC!! I love Fry & Laurie...cracker :P

  • I'm sorry but i did not get the 'Ja-nuary' joke. Could someone explain me, or maybe it's just the way he pronouces it ?

  • @Dr4gounet its the way he pronounces...how he rhymes everything

  • @Dr4gounet He is English and the way he pronounces most the things goes along with that. BTW, I am American and that is not a mystery to me. I hope it is not to you now. And I grew up on an es-tu-uh-reeeee, for real, in Maryland in the states. :)

  • @carrjammin Actually, it is more like ESS-choo-ree in England and here, it is ESS-choo-air-ree.

  • They don't make comedians like this any more. They are exquisite

  • @deiarable I FULLY AGREE!!!!! It's terrible....nowadays most comedians simply curse and such...its terrible. I'm 18 years old and wishes that I had lived during this time.......I hate how society has changed. I spend nights watching old videos of comedy and music. Man I hate how it changed.

  • @527Katarzyna

was gonna say, that is why we have DVDs :) - I'm more sort of evened out myself though, love modern comediens just as much as old ones, some of them are just as intelligent

  • That's not a mistery at all... That's a kind of psychosis, called erotomania. Google it.

  • 68 dislikes? Really?

  • every time i see Hugh i allways think Percy lol

  • Comment removed

  • @Hetfieldandhammett1 Not Percy... He played George ;o)

  • @thamindswapper Instinctly, minty, monty....

  • lol i love his faces xxxx

  • It's not every day that one hears a song with the word "estuary". ahahahagaggaagha!

Which is probably for the best.

  • thus begins hugh laurie's musical career...

  • How can you dislike this? Only if you're a House fan and have no respect for Hugh's other great work :L

This song is so funny, I love it

  • House.... What is Going on?

  • this is song is FTV (for the victory)

  • Isn't he just adorable! :D

  • favourite comedy song :')

  • love them both

  • dead since 1973 lol

  • 67 people have undergone a lo-bo-to-meeee

  • Is it just me or does he look like Griff Rhys Jones here?

  • this is hysterical.....

dead you have been dead since 1973

  • hahaha the estuary bit is fkin hilarious

  • Hugh Laurie is freaking awesome. That much, at least, isn't really a mystery.

  • The 66 people who dislike this HAVE BEEN dead since Jan u arie.

Other than that, it is a lovely song.

  • 66 people now have Lupus.

  • @1images And House is refusing to treat them. He's in denial. He thinks she been dead since 1974

  • I have this on dvd and yet for some reason I'm raping the replay button on here and giggling every time

Even pulling a stupid face and singing with a silly voice, he's still gorgeous lol

  • In-san-I-tree

  • house is near the end, vote this up and post it elsewhere if you think house should go out on a movie

  • @kght222

Why do you say that??? What do you know that I'm not awere of? Tell me xD

  • I thought about this in class yesterday and my Professor actually stopped mid-lecture and stared at me when I started giggling, asking me to contain myself. Today, a friend from that class told me she thought he was going to kill me.

Proof that loving Hugh and Stephen so much can be potentially fatal. <3

  • Died in January of 1973 my guess is that it is either for Christine van Meeteren, Clara Ward or Titina Silla... assuming that it is for a famous women...

    (Yes, I know I'm a nerd...)

    Love them! :)

  • around 0:50 he looks suspiciously like Gryff Rhys Jones...

  • Hugh's voice is hysterical!!!

  • "what kept us apart is plain for me to see. That part at least... is not really a mystery."

  • How can people dislike this? its gold xD

  • @MopHead151 65 people disliking this is a mystery. :)

  • Just the perfect use of the English language. Few comedies tickle me like these pair. Proper reunion please!!

  • haha brilliant

  • Dead since 1973!! this song gets better and better:L

  • @thenushiechatshow Would be better if it wasn't spoiled by your comment to someone who hasn't heard it before. Just something to consider. The surprise is part of the amusement.

  • @m15t4k3n88 sorry. but tbh what was my comment again!!! Lol.

  • Its legendary, classic, and epic all in one....btw is he making fun of billie holiday, more specifically her song "strange fruit", cuz the beginning of that reminds me of this and i cant stop laughing

  • I have just developed deep (and quite complicated) relationship with the replay button...

  • @Stalky24 can you ever imagine how difficult was for me to break up with "like" button... but now i live happy with "replay"...

  • it reminds me so much of razorlight's "I can't stop this feeling I've got" for some reason O° hehe love this song hahaha :)

  • been singing this all day long...

  • He's great

  • ..don't know why I love him but I do..

  • Hugh Laurie.... This song was written and sang by Hugh Laurie... A brilliant piece, of British comedy....

  • hahaha those lyrics are as bad as the ones I secretly write..lol

  • This has got to be the most brillint song Hugh Laurie has written.

The music and the lyrics are just amazing!

    Fry & Laurie <3

  • 00:00

    replay button XD

  • Whenever I'm feeling down I search for this and it always manages to cheer me up! :)

  • hahaha i think this is my favourite of the Fry and Laurie songs!

  • "Dead since 1973. You've been dead now... wait a minute, let me see" i laughed so hard at this ^^

Love Fry and Laurie so much <3

  • Comedy and Britishness at it's finest. Bless you Mr Laurie and Mr Fry :)

  • hugh makes u proud to be british

  • 62 people have been dead since 1973

  • @ninjatigon how would that work?

  • People who only know Hugh from House must be getting a shock =]

  • ohh, Hugh Laurie is just... a genius :3

  • Every time I see an old video of Hugh Laurie, I want to throttle Bryan Singer.

  • @IoEstasCedonta Bryan Singer made Hugh Laurie. As sad a fact as that is. He really should have been more widely recognised before House, but it wasn't meant to be .... that much at least, is not really a mystery

  • @harrichun You are crazy! In England, he was Hugh Laurie, in America, we didn't know him. Are we so snotty in the states to believe that a show has to be big here to be anything at all? No!!! I'm an American fan of Briitsh comedy & find British comedies & actors on the most part superior to ours. That is sad to me. My fave shows are English, plus House, NCIS and Fringe. Do the math. There's Hugh Laurie, David McCallum & John Noble (who is actually Australian.) I mean no disrespect.

  • @carrjammin Apologies, I just meant he wasn't really internationally recognised before House. Not saying that if you don't make it in America you don't make it. Far from it.

  • @harrichun No problem! I am sorry I called you crazy, I did not mean it in the literal sense. Other than that, what I meant still stands, but I mean it in a nice way, as I do everything. Even the "crazy" bit, I was just passionate. But Thanks to Bryan for bringing Hugh to America and recognizing his talent so that the American audience could get its narrow mind out of only (mostly) American actors. The world has so much talent.

  • @carrjammin No offense taken, I totally get what you're driving at

  • @harrichun LOL, you are one of a few in my life. No, actually thanks. Sorry I misunderstood you at first. I got a little defensive as I tend to do at times but I try never to insult people and I am sorry if I did. I am just mad that this next season of House may be the last. :( THAT is the crime here.

  • I totally would do Hugh Laurie.

  • @pilarq Me too xD

  • I heard this song on Inside the Actor's studio and I think I can safely say that it's WAY better with the funny voice! XD

  • He is, truly, the most amazing person in the universe.

  • i wish i could hit the like button a million times. why youtube doesn't allow that is...a mystery.

  • Made me laugh, it's a conspiracy!

  • ESTUARY!!

  • I love this so much! If anything makes me want to learn piano it's this and prog rock haha!!

  • Everytime I watch this, I just laugh. Sometimes I cry, but thats just because I'm laughing so hard. It, truly, never gets old.

  • @scottbark watch some episodes, it's not canned- it's a real audience, either they perform the sketches in front of them ( sometimes interacting with them) or show them the recording.

  • One of my professors said the word "mystery" yesterday, and this song instantly popped into my head :)

  • Dovepaw0228 someone who knows His Royal Amazingness mr. Stephen Fry as "the first psychiatrist on Bones" is a mystery to me. I'm guessing you're American or something, but Steven Fry is an absolutely incredible man and an English national treasure. God I sound like a fussy bitch, but he is just brilliant and I am saddened that some people are not aware of his fantasticness. No offence 2 u in any way.

  • Mr. Hugh Laurie has kindly agried to embarasse us all with the song of his own composing... xDxDxD

  • I love this man, genius!

  • To those wondering, usually these were performed in front of a live audience, or a recording was shown in front of a live audience (like the vox-pox parts)

  • where is the lid,

    where is the lid?

where oh where oh where is the lid?

  • I like Hugh, but the laugh track on this is irritating.

  • @ThePinkhamsterino I was going to say that chances are it's a real audience, however this is from the pilot... so maybe it wasn't done in front of an audience.

Carry on...! (I do think it detracts from the performance too, because I like to be able to hear Hugh.)

  • Why do people always worry about the minority that click on "dislike"?

  • The people who dislike this are the real mystery

  • Ja - newery

    ROFL

  • dead since 1973 lol!!!!

  • This fucking cracks me up, I've watched it at least 10 times today

    " Mistreeeeeeeeey"

    Nice work.

  • haha i love hugh laurie, he is my idol :)

  • Ever since finding this again after many years, I've been unable to stop singing it. LOL! Absolute genius.

  • Holy crap that guy in the beginning is the guy who played the first psychiatrist in Bones!!!!!!!

  • @dovepaw0228 haha yes also known as Stephen Fry: Britain's most popular tweeter.

  • Mystery

All my life has been a mystery

You and I were never ever meant to be

That's why I call my love for you a mystery

    Different country

You and I have always lived in a different country

And I know that airline tickets don't grow on a tree

So what kept us apart is plain for me to see

That much at least is not really a mystery

  • i think that the dislike function should be disabled, if you dislike a video why did you go to the trouble to find it just to say you don't like it?

  • @eviljim108 Lets us all dislike Justin Bieber : D

  • @eviljim108 By that logic, there should be no like button either, because if you found a video, you must have liked it.

The fact is, people don't always go to Youtube to find videos they like. They might be bored, they might be following a recommendation of a friend or of Youtube, or lots of other reasons.

To assume that just because someone dislikes a video means that they had heard of it/seen it, and then went to Youtube to dislike it and become a number is pretty odd.

  • 58 peoples lives are a mystery. xD

  • Just wonderful! I love this : )

  • Jan-you-er-y.
