@Bertorelli11 yea, the beta is buggy, what makes it fast is that it uses the full power of your hardware, u can get like 60 fps when using ie 9, but for other browsers u get like 8 fps.
i have opera mini 5 beta for my samsung code and it is the fastest most convienent browser for a mobile phone. since my phone is metro pcs it uses 1x which is very slow normally but since downloading this i forget i even have metro. its like buying a whole new 300 dollar phone. and also since it uses a fair amount of memory to run the browser pages load quick and easy with no lagging or anything
i love opera mini but im habing probs with it . it dont want to play reg vids like youtube or even mobile sites and im also having the prob with opera not doing 2 tap to zoom in . i mean it does it sometimes but doesnt do it all the time its quite frustrating .
I'm getting a LG Renoir on Friday/Saturday and one of the first apps i'll test is opera mini because opera just kicks ass on any platform and i like the opera link thing so i have the same bookmarks on my pc and on my phone :)
I actually use both Opera Mini and skyfire. When I plan to watch something that uses flash, I'll use skyfire. Opera Mini is vastly faster for me, and it is a lot easier to navigate through. I might have an older version since it's not Beta.
I've got Opera mini beta 5 running on a Dell Axim and from a cold reset when I execute the app, it takes about 6 seconds to load fully, so... considering this Axim is about 5 years old, and it's running Windows Mobile 6.5 also, that's amazing I'd say.
Opera mini beta 5 is ridiculously, no make that LUDICROUSLY fast. It's faster on my Axim with 11b Wi-Fi than Safari is on my iPhone using 11g. Insanely fast... I find myself browsing at home with the Axim more than the iPhone.
hi! im looking for a phone which is the easiest and reliable in using the internet. bcuz i have this sim card which provides unlimited surfing on the net. So which phone would you recommend??
HTC Touch HD. Huge high res 3.8 inch screen. Opera Mobile Browser. Plus it's WinMo so it's customizable to your liking. Or if you want a physical keyboard the Touch Pro 2.
Opera mini 4.xx on the Mogul with a specific version of esmertic jbed was amazingly fast. I don't know exact numbers but at least half the loading time of these. If anyone knows which jbed version is good let me know, the new ones aren't as good.
OMG "it looks like Google Chrome"... Hey Brandon I like you but here you're an idiot... The first page is the Speed Dial like there is in desktop version of Opera since several years... Before doing some stupid comparison, just have a little internet browser culture...
A little harsh to call him an idiot, maybe he just isn't an Opera desktop user but Opera has had the speed dial for a while and in Opera 9 it was 9 pages but in 10 it has 25 from what i've seen.
Hopefully once Opera mini 5 is fully released, they'll fix some of the bugs like double tap to zoom and I find that scrolling is a little lagging when compared to opera mobile 9.5 which is pretty smooth overall.
Also it loads really fast when going back/forward because the pages are saved in the phone's RAM and don't need to be downloaded from the internet again.
I'm not really understanding the use of such old equipment. I know the TP2 is expensive with Sprint, but you could borrow one just for the demonstration or something.
Actually it was an overall comparison of the two browsers...not just a speed test. A better quality (and larger) display would've given a better representation of both browsers' UI.
I didn't read the description, but I did watch the video. He said, "In this video we're taking a look at the new version of Opera Mini version 5". He didn't say "This is a speed test". He said he was taking a look at it (in general).
He spent approximately 2 and 1/2 minutes talking about things OTHER than the speed including UI, settings, navigation, etc. The last 30 seconds of the video was a summary so basically he spent HALF THE VIDEO talking about things besides speed.
Um, reminiscent of Opera the browser (1996), not Chrome (2006).

IF there were google chrome for iphone it would kick all of other browsers ass.
ITs freaking fast and a really fast startup. on my computer firefox starts up in 5 sec while google chrome in 1-2 sec.

@emotionalpunkboy If you have windows 7 or Windows Vista Internet Explorer 9 Beta is a lot faster than google chrome :D

You do realize that Skyfire can play back Flash, right?
I prefer it to be a little slow but to be able to access all that flash content on the web.

Its not good for reading small print but for videos its good. Opera mini and mobile both show words much sharper.

JishHD 2 years ago
That's weird, it loaded in 25 seconds for you? It loads in about 5-10 on my Tilt (Kaiser/Tytn II) and that's even slower!
Also you only need to tap once for it to zoom, just like in Opera Mini 4.2.
JishHD 2 years ago
I meant loading the midlet itself, not the webpages.
JishHD 2 years ago
You don't have to double-tap. Once is enough..

Why does it matter? It's to show browser speed, not anything in detail on the screen.
IrateGamingZealot 2 years ago
Actually it was an overall comparison of the two browsers...not just a speed test. A better quality (and larger) display would've given a better representation of both browsers' UI.
Plus, updated hardware is ALWAYS preferable.

Did you read the description of the video?
"This is a speed test between Skyfire for Windows Mobile and Opera Mini 5 for Java"
An overall comparison would have gone into a lot more detail.

it's not a big deal.
