On the sleeve notes of the 1973 re-release of the 2 LP's Gregg Allman is quoted as saying for the 1st Liberty album ..."They handed us a box full of demos and said pick out your album". From a Jimmy Radcliffe perspective,it would been interesting to hear that acetate don't you think.
@tibus Actually The Song Was Produced With A Slant Towards A Female Vocal For Pat Lundy. But Marlena Shaw Put Out The First Recorded Version, Followed By The Hour Glass And Then Pat's. But The Original Pat Lundy Demo Was Much Slower And Much Funkier Than The Released Version... Though You Can Hear Jimmy Providing Backing Vocal Support It's Much More Of A Pat Lundy Groove.
@Mangomn2003 I think it suits a femme vocal. As you're aware,Pat recorded quite a few more of Jimmy's songs. Buddy Scott was,of course, her manager. At the time the Hour Glass were being groomed for "commercial success" by Liberty & this was their 1st single but,for me, not one of the better songs from the album....many of which can be heard on youtube.
@tibus Perhaps You'll Appreciate Marlena Shaw's Version Better. But I've Had Many A People Say They Love This Version Because It Reminds Them Of The Honky Tonk Juke Joints They Used To Hang Out In That Era In Certain Parts Of The Country.
