Very intriguing this is. Getting people to join of their own accord is the best way to get support. I don't condone the tricks used however or the subtle vocabulary. Molotov used that extensively under Stalin, it's trickery pure and simple. I suppose my moral compass is too strong as I hate stuff like that, it works but doesn't mean I like it. Interesting little video (all parts combined that is). Teacher was a fox as well, just had to put that out there.
I love who they cast as the 'soviet' teacher. she is the daughter of the author of this book, who inspired him to write it when she couldn't tell him what the pledge of allegiance really meant, even if she had it imprinted in her head by her school teacher....
Okay children its okay to have two mommies or two daddies.Children western civilization is evil and oppressive.A nation should be without borders.Abortion is not murder and if someone thinks it is he could be a terrorist.I think the indoctrination has already happened.
The "Pledge of Alligance" is NOW absurd. Originally, everyone was under the "Union Jack" of England! So the "Pledge" was needed to prove the US existed for real! Swearing on the Bible is now just as absurd! With Freedom of religion there are multiple sacred books! And everyone knows the difference of lying or the truth - even WITHOUT a formal religion? Grow up: YOU HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED! Start questioning EVERY WORD!
EVERYONE was a student in that classroom at one time or another! This vid - TV - DVD's - film theatres, Billboards, etc. are EXTENSIONS of that classroom! Try to unravel the propagandistic messages to nullify some of their consequences: it has recently been called "deconstruction". Recent Meryl Streep movies is an entertaining place to begin: "meryreturn2" is the channel.
I found the New Teacher's punctuation of "don't you think?" a very cunning way to lure in the children's thinking towards the Party Line. Pretty chilling.
Glad to have found this thing... thanks for posting it.
We read this book in English class... it's pretty good. It's too bad Miss Worden had to leave right in the beginning - she seemed so nice. I REALLY didn't like the New Teacher when I read the story.
guess where she went... hehe... well wherever she went - it certainly WASN'T the new principle's office - and she isn't comming back too soon either - that's for sure )-:
My nightmare of the Orwellian digital dark-ages; Yes - The future hope of the world are nothing more then blank disks. Awaiting to be reprogrammed by the puppet masters. Make no mistake about it room 101 exists now today! And we are just now awaken in that hellish place of fear and disillusion.
I suppose 25 minutes is about all it takes to change even an adult's mind about everything. That is, if the adult has no real idea why he or she believes something aside from "that's how my parents and my friends feel, so I do too."
Despite Clavell's Soviet overtones here, there are sophists in every branch of the political tree. If you don't know WHY you pledge allegiance (formally or in your heart), you're easy pickings for any of them.
Such a great piece. I don't think this is about being liberal or conservative, patriotic or not. It's a comment on how easily humans accept information they're given and obey orders. It was inspired by the fact that Clavell's daughter (who plays the teacher in the film) came home from school when she was young able to recite the Pledge of Allegiance but didn't know what it meant. The Pledge itself isn't the issue, just that the girl didn't question its meaning or why to say it.
I had to read this play in drama last week

Why are they scared? Did the Vietnam war just happen? Oh yeah and did this new teacher come from nationalist school?

Where do you think the old teacher went in the CHildren's Story? Do you think she was sent to a forced labour camp or put to death?

Forcing people to repeat a mantra that they don't understand, much less believe in - now THAT'S brainwashing!

@steveasat2 people should check into Why children were made to make the pledge to begin with.

I think a vast majority of the adult population gets it, or at least, they used to.
