  • so beautiful..thanks for the post i have been tracking down this movie for ever. finally.:))

  • As one who was born sometime after this was made, I can say this film is timeless. Note the competition between them. So good and lost today in our era. This and screwball comedies like "Merrily We Live" and so many others are precious insights into humanity. THANX!

  • Difficult to imagine giving him the brush off, even once!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Check the music in this scene...so perfect, and yet unobtrusive.

  • I'm in love with Jean Arthur (at least her memory). I have tried to find out as much about her as I can. Anyone know what street she lived on in Carmel?

  • @jmjwxyz

I'm working on it. You know there's a bio book on her...could be in it.

Yes, when one falls for Jean Arthur...it's pretty much over. This scene presses all the buttons, and even the extra ones in the vest pocket.

This is one of the most killer Jean Arthur scenes ever. Talk about your head swimming...George Steven's directed. Genius. I think I have to lie down now.

  • @jmjwxyz I think I read somewhere it was on a street called Scenic Road right by the sea. I'd like to think it is still standing

  • What a great scene! You all realize that this was completely improvised on the the set. Jean Arthur was America's top screw ball comedienne..bar none. There were other great ones: Claudette Colbert, Carole Lombard, Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn, Myrna Loy..but the screwball genre..someone has written "can not be imagined without Jean Arthur, whose voice sounded "like a hundred bells ringing". This wonderful film, a snap shot of America during WW II, was directed by George Stevens.

  • this was back when actors knew how to act!!!

  • Oh please, these two are a pair of hams.

  • One of my favorite movie classics, with two of my favorite stars. Great talent in this movie that was beautifully done.

  • This is my favorite seduction scene of all time!! The terrific acting makes the audience feel like they are intruding on a very intimate and authentic exchange. I agree the scene is innocently erotic. That is one sexy dress on Arthur; I can hardly believe she was 43 when this picture was made. McCrea's performance is surprisingly boyish as he must have been in his late 30s when this was made.

  • that's a really hot scene considering the times.

  • This scene (from a great George Steven's comedy) is amazingly erotic - much more than the bump and grind, spit swapping, naked butts of modern films.

    Truly charming and fantastic.

  • Jean Arthur was such a honey!

  • Awesome scene. He's soo adorable!

  • Now how many women have you seen with bodies like Jean Arthur in this movie? In the scene by the pool she is built like a workout momma of today. She is 43!

  • This is one of my special movies with Charles Coburn. I can watch these anytime, in fact it just aired tonight on TCM.

Of course the entire cast is perfect.

  • Such a cute scene - one of my Jean Arthur favourites. Apparently, it was largely improvised.

  • thanks for posting this cute scene with jean and joel - they are both too much forgotten.

  • Adoro este filme, quero muito achá-lo para terminar de assistir.
