A true classic in every meaning of the word...a priceless and timeless film. That young boy who saw this movie oh so many years ago stills loves it today. Thank you for making such a gem.
i love when the guy on the bike talks money silivers eyes light up and he licks his lips great move number i in my world no ones made better than this 10 out of 10
One of the keys to great film making is the use of a single camera to capture a long uninterupted scene of actors doing what actors are suppose to do, act. Present day movies rely on too many short choppy scenes to hide the fact that most actors today can't stay in character long enough to make the scene believable. Silvers and Winters are true actors and Kramer's skill of setting the scene up and capturing it is pure genius.
@ole9421 That's a really awesome observation. I think you're absolutely right. But like a lot of things, I never really noticed the number of cuts in a scene. I'm working on a film and I really appreciate observations like yours. Thanks!
Phil Silvers and Johnathan Winters are golden in this scene. Spencer Tracy had no business being in the film but wound up in it anyway. Despite that, it is still one of the great comedies of all time.
Brilliant. I remember seeing this as a kid when it first came out in the theatre... around the same time as The Russians are Coming the Russians are Coming! ;)
@Humanfactor7 Yeah, but "The Russians are Coming" is a wet bag of donkey-shit compared to "Mad, Mad World." To mention that film in the same breath with "Mad World" is ridiculous.
Nice. Era to era Hollywood spoon feeds so much worthless trash to the masses that films like this, and comparatively few others, stand out so very well. Stanley Kramer(and co) have a real gem here. Let's see Hollywood try and remake this one!! Ha ha ha!! Wouldn't even know where to begin.
@MakiP5 Didn't they do a re-make with 'Rat Race' (director Jerry Zucker)?!! It didn't work. Phil Silvers is an incredible performer. I like to think that his character in this film is actually Bilko, maybe after he retired from the Army, or was on a vacation or something.
My favorite movie of all time. When Phil Silvers says to the kid... why you little.. ahkay, ahkay I'll give you $3 dollars. OMG so funny. And when Jonothan Winters rides that girl bike with bent handlebars... hilarious!
What are you? Some kind of a NUT!!!!!!!!

@DaveM599 Not sure. But to get as many comedians/entertainers as are in this film today I think is impossible.
