So glad to have You Tube and your uploads. If it were possible, I would have never missed a single Straits or Knopfler event. But life's not so accommodating. Thank you to all concerned who make these fantastic events available to us ordinary lovers of fantastic musical talent. Peace...
I am a dire straits and mark knopfler fan since i was 8 years old ,and now 36 and i have to say this really is their best captured performance ever , absolutley magic gig i bet..i would give anything to have been there.
I would like some verification from some of you guys. If you pay close attention between 1:14 - 1:19 and pay real close attention to the 3 mini toggles to me I see the switches at
Bridge-Up(Tapped)
Middle-Up(Tapped)
Neck-Down(full coil)
Do you guys see this as well?
The switches are 3 way so they can be up, center, or down
1:57 - 3:20 The best sounding Schecter that you will ever here. I wished I could see in which position the mini toggles were in and which pickups are in the tapped position. There is something magical about that Schecter. O yea, Mark Knopfler.
I mean, how can you write something that beautiful? It is not humanly possible to write something that pretty and then play it through your fingers! This proves that Mark is NOT human. He is some sort of god.
@cdh79 Hahaha, a great deed, friend! My humble thanks to you. I sometimes wonder if some viewers didn't notice - or simply forgot - there's a Part 2 for this awesome performance. ;-)
Somewhere I have this on VHS, Recorded off "The Tube" on Channel 4, Sadly years ago my sister recorded over the 2nd half of the concert but fortunately Tunnel of Love remains viewable, Although my musical tastes became much heavier I will never ever tire of watching this, In my opinion Mark Knopfler's immense talents have never been bettered than at this performance, but the rest of the band are also at the top of their game esp Alan Clark, Terry Williams & Jack Sonni.......In a word..Epic!
@MathieuVernimmen ive seen dumb comments but yours takes the cake, when my grandma says something like that it's one thing, but I assume you're a little younger.., no offense
@MathieuVernimmen Yes, I just replayed the song again and he is playing those lines, you were right, my appologies, my comment was dumb, not yours, for some reason thought you were making fun of the song, my mistake!
@MathieuVernimmen Yes it is. He is probably trying to see if the other guys in the band see the deviation from the standard version. See how he smiles at his brother when he starts the riff!???
@MathieuVernimmen I've heard this song a million times and I've never noticed it before. But you're right, he goes into disco mode for a short period of time there...
This is not an intro to those who may think it is. If you like this track listen to it on the Dire Straits album Alchemy, it is one fabulous track, like all on the album. Knopfler is unique in his style. Enjoy!
@DogSwede1 'Alchemy Live" - 2CD set was the one, I believe. If not this actual recording, but that's the Live version. The Best album of Dire Straits. All time best Guitarist Mark Knopfler.
yeah this track is from making movies (1980) ... the intoduction is indeed part of the track it is known as the Carousel Waltz ... the song was written about the Spanish City fairground at Whitley Bay near Newcastle ... the closest version to this one you will be able to obtain on CD is from Alchemy Live which was released in 1983 ... hope this helps
The best live performance of Tunnel Of Love.... I'm shaking and it's 5 minutes since the end of the song!!! WOA!!!! (but, the saxophone intro is better in Alchemy, the rest of song is HUGE AWESOME!!!!) ;)
I love when people's calling as an intro 3 minutes of mixes bass kicks used in house/electronical music.. :) I like that too but this perforamance is a kinda of perfect intro.. you wait every second when the main track starts. priceless.
Actually, Tom Anderson used to work with/for Dave Schecter at Schecter Guitar Research :-) (Just FYI: That company changed hands in the mid-80s and both Schecter and Anderson quit. I used to love the Pensa sound, but today I find it a bit sterile, particularly the MK1 with EMG pickups. The Schecters had a very unique sound, I think.
