  • So glad to have You Tube and your uploads. If it were possible, I would have never missed a single Straits or Knopfler event. But life's not so accommodating. Thank you to all concerned who make these fantastic events available to us ordinary lovers of fantastic musical talent. Peace...

  • Great!

  • oh. my. gosh.

  • awesome absolute class of a band!

  • he never once looks at the fretboard, OK once to see if his fingers were on fire.

  • I am a dire straits and mark knopfler fan since i was 8 years old ,and now 36 and i have to say this really is their best captured performance ever , absolutley magic gig i bet..i would give anything to have been there.

  • Da 0.00 a 3.20 che intro!!!!!!!!!fantastica....l'avrò vista migiaia di volte ma ogni volta mi fa venire i brividi....

  • Jack Sonny was the rythm guitarist during the brothers in arms period

  • Trop bon du pur bonheur :)

  • Figured what position they are in

    Bridge- UP

    Middle- UP

    Neck- OFF

  • I would like some verification from some of you guys. If you pay close attention between 1:14 - 1:19 and pay real close attention to the 3 mini toggles to me I see the switches at

    Bridge-Up(Tapped)

    Middle-Up(Tapped)

    Neck-Down(full coil)

Do you guys see this as well?

The switches are 3 way so they can be up, center, or down

  • 1:57 - 3:20 The best sounding Schecter that you will ever here. I wished I could see in which position the mini toggles were in and which pickups are in the tapped position. There is something magical about that Schecter. O yea, Mark Knopfler.

  • Mark your music has touched my soul for 30 years!

  • I mean, how can you write something that beautiful? It is not humanly possible to write something that pretty and then play it through your fingers! This proves that Mark is NOT human. He is some sort of god.

  • @liftedcj7on44s he is an alien, no plays a guitar like him

  • The opening of this version gives me chills and I get goose bumps. I freaking love it.

  • only if MK had started his career at early age (around 20) which mean end of the 60's .

imagine dire straits at the progressive rock era . maybe recording something in dark side of the moon style

  • What young he was!

  • I believe the ending solo of this song to be Mark Best Solo he has ever done on Tunnel of Love.

  • This fucking song makes me cry. Dire Straits are my first band, i heard that when i have 5 years old :'3

  • Music from Heaven!!!

  • watch?v=Uf9ANwp1LcM <-- this is part two.. thumbs up, for easy access :)

  • @cdh79 Hahaha, a great deed, friend! My humble thanks to you. I sometimes wonder if some viewers didn't notice - or simply forgot - there's a Part 2 for this awesome performance. ;-)

  • Wow, love to see people being civilised on youtube. :)

  • devastante

  • Guitar Legend!!!

  • A genius at work!

  • What he's playing during the first minute or so is probably the closest he ever sounded to David Gilmour!

  • @whatsitallabouthey true and even though i love gimour mr knophler is a better guitarist abd creates a sound no one can match !!! respect

  • i missed the ending of this video cuz i needed to pick the pieces of my shattered mind off the floor. just... fantastic....

  • 1 is Justin Bieber

  • OF COURSE HE PLAYS " STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE".FITS PRETTY WELL IN THE HARMONY AND IN THE INTENTION OF THE SONG.

  • Somewhere I have this on VHS, Recorded off "The Tube" on Channel 4, Sadly years ago my sister recorded over the 2nd half of the concert but fortunately Tunnel of Love remains viewable, Although my musical tastes became much heavier I will never ever tire of watching this, In my opinion Mark Knopfler's immense talents have never been bettered than at this performance, but the rest of the band are also at the top of their game esp Alan Clark, Terry Williams & Jack Sonni.......In a word..Epic!

  • yeah alchemy live clasic album

  • What a great pianist Alan Clark!!!

  • by the way just love the intro ...............

  • takes me back to when i was 14 and music just grabs you.....and your never the same again!

  • ALWAYS so cookin'!!

Top of the line band, anyone with me?

  • Goodness, what an intro...

  • Is it just me or is he actually playing from 2:16 - 2:34

the lines "Stop, in the name of love, before you break my heart.

Stop, in the name of love, before you break my heart. Think it over..." from the song by Diana Ross and the supremes?

  • @MathieuVernimmen - Great! Never noticed. =D

Here's another example on that - /watch?v=HLO-vw7V9yg (see the comments)

  • @MathieuVernimmen

Wow, what an observation - I never thought of that. I'm sure that's what his guitar would print out if it had 'voice-action'. : )

  • @MathieuVernimmen ive seen dumb comments but yours takes the cake, when my grandma says something like that it's one thing, but I assume you're a little younger.., no offense

  • @GeorgeTel100

Not everyone knows the song, and a lot of those who do would't have noticed it -I assume-, so I just mentioned it.

No need for you to get all worked up.

  • @MathieuVernimmen Yes, I just replayed the song again and he is playing those lines, you were right, my appologies, my comment was dumb, not yours, for some reason thought you were making fun of the song, my mistake!

  • @GeorgeTel100

If you accidently thought I was mocking this great song, I can understand why you got agitated ;-)

    Apologies accepted.

  • @MathieuVernimmen Yes, unfortunately that's exactly what i thought. All The Best!!

  • @MathieuVernimmen

And at 3:05 he plays a chord from "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"

    from 1964.

  • @MathieuVernimmen Yes. Definitely. Cute. lol.

  • @MathieuVernimmen Yes it is. He is probably trying to see if the other guys in the band see the deviation from the standard version. See how he smiles at his brother when he starts the riff!???

  • @cookieman38111 his brother left the band after Comminique ( 1979 )

  • @cookieman38111 his brother left the band after Comminique ( 1979 ) this is not even Hal Lindes who left in early 1985

  • @MathieuVernimmen I've heard this song a million times and I've never noticed it before. But you're right, he goes into disco mode for a short period of time there...

  • @MathieuVernimmen I was thinking the same thing, thought I was crazy. Then I read your post. lol

  • @MathieuVernimmen ahahahaha!!! That's crazy how you could pick that up

  • @MathieuVernimmen Respect! Nice one mate!

  • great intro !

  • i was lucky enough to attend this concert and many others but the most amazing concert that i ever saw them preform was A Night In London.

Great Videos Keep up The Great Work!

  • @Lupingreenredink, There is a DIRE STRAITS LIVE release. it has this wonderful series of songs in this order

  • This is not an intro to those who may think it is. If you like this track listen to it on the Dire Straits album Alchemy, it is one fabulous track, like all on the album. Knopfler is unique in his style. Enjoy!

  • @DogSwede1 'Alchemy Live" - 2CD set was the one, I believe. If not this actual recording, but that's the Live version. The Best album of Dire Straits. All time best Guitarist Mark Knopfler.

  • @Lupingreenredpink

yeah this track is from making movies (1980) ... the intoduction is indeed part of the track it is known as the Carousel Waltz ... the song was written about the Spanish City fairground at Whitley Bay near Newcastle ... the closest version to this one you will be able to obtain on CD is from Alchemy Live which was released in 1983 ... hope this helps

  • @Lupingreenredpink there is no zd with this version but the are bootlegs of it

  • @Lupingreenredpink There is a live version on cd, on the second disc of "Alchemy". Its not this exact version but its still fantastic.

  • @norway8nature

Du vet at Knoplfer spiller på Norwegian Wood i Juni?

  • AHHHHHH fucking truly amazing FUUUUCKKKKKKK this song kicks ASSSSSSSSSSSSSS thank you

  • I love when people's calling as an intro 3 minutes of mixes bass kicks used in house/electronical music.. :) I like that too but this perforamance is a kinda of perfect intro.. you wait every second when the main track starts. priceless.

  • kick ass

  • Does anyone know if the really long intro is an extra live extension of the song, or if it is the end of another song? If the latter, which song?

  • Is the first thing you said; A long intro of "Tunnel of Love". :)

  • @eriksmoe its a piece of music called the carousel waltz my friend.

  • @eriksmoe

It's IS an extra extension of the Tunnel of Love:)

  • is a intro the tunnel of love

  • Beautiful finger style!! Mark we love U !!!

this is a schecter strat. Schecter used to work with Tom Anderson, master builders of excellent instruments!!!

  • Actually, Tom Anderson used to work with/for Dave Schecter at Schecter Guitar Research :-) (Just FYI: That company changed hands in the mid-80s and both Schecter and Anderson quit. The Schecter guitars today have nothing to do with the old company. Today, Dave Schecter makes excellent pickups and guitar electronics (Ozone Guitars).)

  • @SpiritLevelBubble

    Thank you for the update!!!

Tom and Dave are top sound "gurus" !!!! You know I prefer that sound in comparison to the latest Pensa guitar he usually plays with... what do you think?

  • misternogreco -

    My pleasure :-)

I used to love the Pensa sound, but today I find it a bit sterile, particularly the MK1 with EMG pickups. The Schecters had a very unique sound, I think. I used to own a red one, similar to Mark's, but with the original f500 pickups. They were very hot (overwound, big magnets, plus magnets on the base plate), so the sound was much more powerful than a regular Strat, but also different. Don't think I'd go for that sound today though.

  • This guitar is the replacement for the stolen first sunburst Strat.

The first strat was stolen soon after the recording of Making movies.

  • It's a tobacco sunburst Strat - but it's really only a refinement of a "red electric guitar" - a song about bein' in love - a song about bein' in a band! - rock and roll and making love on the road!

  • who has details about this gibson?

  • It's a Schecter Strat. :)

  • ?????

  • geordie legend !!!!!

  • my favorite song ever, i know every line he sing :>

  • No coments, great fingers, perfect.

  • awesome

  • really nice gitar solo even better than in Sulans of swing.Absolutely mint.
