Wow! I'm so thankful. This video was really great. Even though we use animals for our own to eat and get things fro (even though I don't as a vegan) I am so thankful that we still respect them. All the calves in the end get lots of love, and they even got to enjoy some or their own mothers milk! Humans can live in peace with the world, and its animals, even if we use them for ourselves. I'm so relieved! Thank goodness!

It is not for any of us to say if it is humane or how things are meant to be, but it is the way things are and we as a society depend on people like this to get the food to the grocery store. i like how everyone jumps to conclusions and thinks these newborns are going to be slaughtered right away. Im not familiar with dairy farms (which this establishment seems to be) but there is a process called wiening. it is odd to see the process started so early (in this case, right at birth) but it must be done. usually the mothers "bawl" for about a day or two, then they just dont give a shit and forget about their calf. and then its a done deal until next year, when they do it all again.

Eating a high fat diet,low nutrient dense diet can cause some of those issues but then so does genetics. @askalice50 Common practice is to take the new born calves and separate them from there mothers. They are given quality colostrum and milk for about a week, then slowly moved to milk and starter (high energy grain mix). The mother cow is in the milking pens where she'll probably be milked 2-3 times a day. The calf, if female may be sold, or become a replacement heifer. If a male, the calf will probably be sold to a feed lot for beef production, or saved back as a bull for the clean up pen.

@Velexian I respect animals also, this isnt as bad as it seems. i live on a dairy farm and this is regular procedure. Its not good for a mother cow to have her calf nurse directly from her, she is milked soon after and her milk is givin to her calf, and just because the calf is being taken away it does not mean it is going to get culled. The calf is not ripped away from her either, after it is raised and begins producing milk it will be put in the barn that holds the cows, including its mother.

I lived on a farm growing up and when a cow calves the babies are taken away.....The mother starts her lactation of milk and really doesn't have time to care for the calf...Heifer calves (FEMALE) are usually kept on the farm for them to grow and have calves themselves and Bull (MALE) are sent to the sale barn or for veal. Its a part of life folks so all of these comments are foolish. Cows love their calves but then they get over it and live a life everyday on the farm

@OakHavenF What?!? Maybe you should go spend some time on a farm some time. Taking the calves away is routine and from what I have seen not overly damaging to the cow or the calf. There is also nothing wrong with veal farming so long as it is done right (ie proper husbandry rather than the crates) here in the uk veal calves have a far longer lives than pigs or chickens.

This is how large farms in the US operate. First cows don't give birth to cows, they give birth to calves. The calves are removed from the cow, cleaned and then given milk replacements. The cow is put thru the milk parlor are usual, but her milk does not go into the tank but is saved for the calf or dumped....and so it goes......female calves are kept and male calves if not from good breeding are sent to auction..
This is why I don't like the thought of veal....I don't like to eat babies.
However, no one should be guilted into being a vegan/vegetarian. Meat is DELICIOUS. If you don't think so, that's fine, but stfu and let the rest of us enjoy it. :) We are, by nature, omnivorous. @BadActingWYIM It's hard to think about...I don't like animals suffering either but I friggin love meat. :/ Most farm animals have become such a high commodity that farmers need to find faster ways to produce more and have it last longer than it ever could once it's been stripped from the animal. The stuff you buy in stores has all been treated with a chemical that makes it look and taste fresh....when in fact it is anything but (unless you go to a good butcher).

Tonight I've discovered, Raw or organic, Milk still has too much growth hormone for us & the possibility of Mad Cow. USA calls it Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc. (see Scripps.edu study) but the govt can't say that, too much money at stake, but if the rest of the western countries have it, why don't we? the way they test the cows has a lot to do with it. After all this research and so many vids supporting the facts, I think milk isn't worth the risk for my family. it's worth a change in taste.

i like how everyone jumps to conclusions and thinks these newborns are going to be slaughtered right away. Im not familiar with dairy farms (which this establishment seems to be) but there is a process called wiening. it is odd to see the process started so early (in this case, right at birth) but it must be done. usually the mothers "bawl" for about a day or two, then they just dont give a shit and forget about their calf. and then its a done deal until next year, when they do it all again.

Eating a high fat diet,low nutrient dense diet can cause some of those issues but then so does genetics. In all honesty over eating anything is bad.I for one am allergic to most vegan foods so leading a vegan life would be way to tricky.

Ever since I saved a wild bird at the age of 8 yrs old I wanted to be a veterinarian, and since then I've focused my educational career on achieving that very goal. @askalice50 Common practice is to take the new born calves and separate them from there mothers. They are given quality colostrum and milk for about a week, then slowly moved to milk and starter (high energy grain mix). The mother cow is in the milking pens where she'll probably be milked 2-3 times a day. The calf, if female may be sold, or become a replacement heifer. If a male, the calf will probably be sold to a feed lot for beef production, or saved back as a bull for the clean up pen.

Its not good for a mother cow to have her calf nurse directly from her, she is milked soon after and her milk is givin to her calf, and just because the calf is being taken away it does not mean it is going to get culled. The calf is not ripped away from her either, after it is raised and begins producing milk it will be put in the barn that holds the cows, including its mother.

I lived on a farm growing up and when a cow calves the babies are taken away.....The mother starts her lactation of milk and really doesn't have time to care for the calf...Heifer calves (FEMALE) are usually kept on the farm for them to grow and have calves themselves and Bull (MALE) are sent to the sale barn or for veal. Its a part of life folks so all of these comments are foolish. Cows love their calves but then they get over it and live a life everyday on the farm

@OakHavenF What?!? Maybe you should go spend some time on a farm some time. Taking the calves away is routine and from what I have seen not overly damaging to the cow or the calf. There is also nothing wrong with veal farming so long as it is done right (ie proper husbandry rather than the crates) here in the uk veal calves have a far longer lives than pigs or chickens.

I understand that animals are made to eat. But dont torchure them like those factories do and dont take away there babies so early. Dont let them know you gonna kill them, just cause there animals doesnt mean they dont feel anything and are wothless. Who ever thinks its fine to kicks cows and torture them deserve the same done to them.

@ifyouseekdanielle I would totally disagree that animals have been created for meat to eat. No, they are created to live just as we are. they only kill each other because they learn by imitation. Their teeth also evolve according to usage. This is not included in the typical understanding of Darwin.

This is how large farms in the US operate. First cows don't give birth to cows, they give birth to calves. The calves are removed from the cow, cleaned and then given milk replacements. The cow is put thru the milk parlor are usual, but her milk does not go into the tank but is saved for the calf or dumped....and so it goes......female calves are kept and male calves if not from good breeding are sent to auction..

This is why I don't like the thought of veal....I don't like to eat babies.
However, no one should be guilted into being a vegan/vegetarian. Meat is DELICIOUS. If you don't think so, that's fine, but stfu and let the rest of us enjoy it. :) We are, by nature, omnivorous. At least here we have semi-humane ways of putting down animals in a slaughterhouse. Check out how they do it in other countries. Pretty nasty stuff, but hey, they gotta eat too.

@ajaxs50 are you joking? maybe you should do some reasearch into how europe treats its farm animals. Its not how you kill the animal its how you treat it even before it is sent to slaughter. Just watch the video on youtube called " Ohio Dairy Farm Brutality "

@ajaxs50 so if murder is delicious its okay with you? no one said it tasted bad, but i just cant stand the thought of the suffering animals in slaughter houses go through their whole life up until the very end of it to be nothing more than a meal with my potatos and brocoli at the end of the day here and gone when dinners over or a package in the meat isle at safeway for 7 dollars, that is not okay with me

@BadActingWYIM It's hard to think about...I don't like animals suffering either but I friggin love meat. :/ Most farm animals have become such a high commodity that farmers need to find faster ways to produce more and have it last longer than it ever could once it's been stripped from the animal. The stuff you buy in stores has all been treated with a chemical that makes it look and taste fresh....when in fact it is anything but (unless you go to a good butcher).

I needed to see this. Been vego for 10 months but milk in my coffee was the last thing to give up. If by me drinking milk takes the calves away from their mothers well the dairy industry can stick it. ...so fricken cruel. humans have a lot to answer for....makes me want to hate some of them just for being brain washed and stupid for thinking we can't live without meat.

We are a very ghoulish species. If you think about it, We eat carrion (Meat that we have not ourselves killed fresh) and drink the lactations of other enslaved species that we have separated from their off spring.
God may or may not be real? But this is real. We put this on our tables and in our bodies.
