JVC Everio Tutorial - Importing and playing in WMM!

so why the frick does it tell me this when i try to import this???

The file C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\cheap shot clips\MOV079.MOD is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker.

@TheSarahR no,i pretty much just said screw it and continued using adobe premier.try changing the file type (Ex. .MOD to .FLV)maybe it will work. .MOD use to always crash my premier though so changing the file type should work if you have any other movie maker software. I hoped this help.

Didn't work for me - I just installed the new movie maker and everything. I can convert the mov files using Youtube downloader but there is significant loss of quality once in movie maker

my everio browser has stopped signing onto you tube. i get "login failed" Pixela says it is you tube's fault...they do not have a fix yet. camera is great however if you plan to use you tube forget it......

@rongenman I have a similar problem. Not so much with the log-in, but when I click the Upload button (I have a newer camer...can't remember the name...but it has "one touch YouTube") it gets to about 50% and says Upload Failed. So I just quit using the Enverio software.

Hmm never heard of that. Try restarting your computer, and just running WMM/ shutdown any programs running in the background.

@markforealz I got that same message when I changed the file extension. I'm going to try what he suggested in the video; when you click Import, he said it won't show .MOD files, but you CAN search for them. Try not changing the file extension to .MPG and just searching for the .MOD in WMM.

Yeah, I tried it too, same results. I think the Jake must be right...he's running Vista, and it might have a newer version of WMM. Now, short of using the editing software that came with the camera (which I can't figure out, because my videos don't show up in there)...it looks like the best bet might be downloading a .MOD -> .AVI converter. I got a free one, called AVS. It works...but unless you pay for the full version, it leaves a watermark. (cont.)

When you plug your camera in through the USB, turn on the camera, and seleck "Playback on computer" or "Connect to a device", then your computer should say its installing the device hardware or drivers or something then a box should popup and say "Open folders to view files" etc.

The pictures are under DCIM, right? Well the videos are under the folder called "SD_VIDEO", its another folder like DCIM, it should be by it somewhere, if its not, try to make the folder, exactly how I named it.

Yes. I can read the camera as a removable hard drive, the trouble is in opening the .mod files with movie maker... Also, I was hoping to be able to capture video from it live, like a webcam. Do you know how to do that?

On the left side of the timeline there is a +, click it, and then it should show the audio track of the clip, right click the audio track and make sure its not muted.

Hmm, it should keep it all in one...try clicking the + on the left of the timeline and see if the video sound is muted.

Yes you do the same for pictures, you go to file>import, just like i show you in the vid, but instead of getting a video, you can get a picture, and then make a slide show and all of that.

There should be a purple screen that has several options, and you click "Connect to a Device" or "Playback on computer", they are pretty much the same. Once it connects, you can go to my computer>Click on the camera drive>go to the Video folder (not the DCIM) and your movies should be there.

No problem, ok Melliflu try this, just record a 10-20 sec video, and connect it to the computer following my steps, then try and import it to movie maker, if its the .MOD file, and you have vista premium or higher, you should be able to edit it.

Ive looked into it, and i havent found a solution yet. Its kind of weird, different models work in Vegas, like the HD7 works perfect. Try Vegas, if that doesnt work, Adobe SHOULD, my friend has the same camera as mine, except a later model, i think it has .mod file too, and his works fine in Adobe.

SpecialEdday-Im thinking only vista premium and up supports the .mod file, try using Sony Vegas, it supports .mod, but it may/may not have sound.

i recorded a video in .wmv with my webcam and i made windows show file extensions. then i changed the file extension from .wmv to .mod. and windows media player was able to play it and the icon recognized it as an mpeg. so it appears to me as vista does support .mod. ill find out for sure tomorrow

usaraw- I think the Everio line of cameras all have the same file format (.MOD). But im not sure what yours puts the file into, ask the guy at the store, they should be able to tell you, or do some research on youtube and ask people who have them. But im 90% sure you can edit it in Sony Vegas, but go comment on people who have the camera your getting, ask them what file type it puts it in.

Hmm, which vista, i have vista premium? Second, i have the same problem on sony vegas 8 producers edition. No SOUND. I think there is a solution to this however, you can download a codec for the sound. Ill be willing to help you find the solution, i would love to know it, so i can edit my videos in sony vegas, so ill put up my MSN on the description box, and add me there, and we can work together to find this out.

What do you mean? Movie Maker supports some files like .avi and all, but the Vista movie maker accepts more, google it to find all the file types that it supports, because I dont know.
