Mark Twain shows a beautiful relationship between these two characters, no matter if they did seek knowledge from the forbidden tree they loved and remained with each other faithfully. The Hebrew text the Torah states that Adam and Lilith were made together, equally. They're relationship eventually fell apart when Adam tried to dominate her. Thus came the first divorce and Eve was made of Adams rib, "Flesh of HIS flesh." Whether this is symbolic or the fact that Eve was Adam and Liliths daughter, and this is incest is up to debate. But the whole concept of Genisis itself is up to debate in general, I for one believe in evolution.

Well, they're going from Mark Twain's literature, and likewise any religious influence or commentary in his writings would be from Judeo-Chrisitanity given the time and place he was raised. Doesn't mean it's any more correct or that they were trying to overemphasize it per se.
