  • Murray's new coach.

    Murray for A Grandslam!

  • SKINNY CZECH FUCK LENDL, he always looked like he just escaped a concentration camp, eat a cheeseburger for god sake!! never liked that fuck, no personality at all!

  • Lendl first time to beat Becker in GS.

  • My best friend and I would argue about Lendl's Legacy. I used to say Boris Becker would always be remembered as 3 Times Wimbledon Champ (and the youngest) Lendl would be ..........Lendl WHO??????

    I was RIGHT !!!! 20 Years ago.

  • @spacyfoil

    Uhm... you were what??

Lendl is categorically one of the top 5 players of the open era. His legacy is indisputable. Anyone who knows tennis is aware of how great he was. He ruled an era - perhaps the most competitive era of all time if you look at who he was up against.

Becker, as much as I like him more as a player, cannot be compared to Lendl.

Anyone who says "Lendl who?" does not know a thing about tennis.

  • @alin1975 Connors claims that Lendl was lucky because he (Connors) and McEnroe were past their prime. Connors is a little spoiled brat (his mother coached him haha) Lendl is my fav player; he was the father of the modern power tennis game, and fitness

  • @spacyfoil for me this is the case where Legacy means more than Wimbledon victory. For me it sounds like: Who is B.Becker? ah, yes, he is 3 times Wimbledon Champ... And who is Ivan Lendl? Oh my God! He's the Legend! Ivan Lendl!!

  • @spacyfoil Lendl is second in all-time tour victories (94)

  • ciao matteo....non potevi farmi + contento questo video è fantastico!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • these days they are hellbent on slowing the game down & spoiling it...they have introduced slower balls..no wonder majority of the players are baseliners..and the serve & volley game is done & dusted...

  • Kind of Tennis you don't see anymore nowadays...

  • Old school tennis never dies

  • the courts were so much faster then

  • how good was this guy, amazing, and so were his lendl supreme trainers made by adidas, bad asss

  • Ivan Lendl - one of the greatest of all time! In my club - nearly all had this Adidas T-Shirt - that tells the story! He is the father of power tennis and his groundstrokes were the best at his time! Boris Becker was full of confidence - that´s the main reason why he was a top player! Lendl was the better player, Becker was stronger in his head!

  • @NIJOEL03 bullshit..Becker went awol after 91 and winning the AO / becoming world no 1 ..it took till 96 against chang at AO before he won his next and last slam , thats a 5 yr gap !!!

  • One should not critisize Ivan Lendl that he lost 11 Grand- Slam -Finals. He had to compete with Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Wilander, Edberg, Becker- all top players. How many Grand-Slam-Titles Federer would have won, if he had to play most of his Finals against Nadal? 5 or 6 perhaps. And one should not forget Lendls 9 consecutive Finals at the Masters-Tournament. This will ever be an all-time-record.

  • Lendl in his 30's was like Agassi in his 30's, still one of the toughest guys to beat.

  • Lendl dominated at perhaps the most competitive tennis era.

  • Lendl was 11-10 against Becker. But if they would

have play on clay, he would'nt have lost a set.

But they didn't, because Becker was out in the

first rounds of almost every tornament on clay,,,

  • Becker....the best.

  • i miss these players! they were all favoites to me back then!

  • what a stupid playing by becker...always at net...ridiculous

  • @llss882 what a ridiclous comment

  • Did he call Becker a "Kraut" ???

  • When I was young, I didnt like Lendl, but now, I really appreciate him. Of course, his forehand is nothing nowadays, but we have to note that, the modern forehand can be executed largely coz of the heavier balls, poly-string, and ligher racket. I am afraid that modern players like Federer or Tsonga can hardly hit their modern forehand with lendl's racket. I would say, Federer is v3, while Sampras is v2 and Lendl is v1.

  • lendl was a fucking monster. he ate lesser players like cheerios. he was the most underrated player only because he was a non american. i saw this match live and it was the best thing i saw in years

  • @bjornsiborgsi Becker said Lendl wanted to kill every player 6-0, 6-0. Becker says for him (Becker), 6-4, 6-4 is good enough

  • RF

Ivan Lendl, one of the best players in Tennis

  • Matches like these were great. Contrasting styles-baseline vs. serve and volley. All baseline now and not enough variety.

  • Great match, I was so sad cause I missed it!! I think, after all, that Lendl had better shots, but Becker had the great talent to play incredibly well the critical points. I would remember that despite 1992 was a very good year for Boris ( 5 tournam, Masters), the great Ivan won.

  • Lendl is underrated!

  • Lendl was way better than Becker

  • how so?

  • The quality of the players Lendl had to play against is testament to his greatness. He played the best serve and volleyers to have held a racket in Edberg, McEnroe and Becker. He also played baseliners like Borg, Wilander and later Agassi.

Every player struggles with one player. Becker had trouble with Agassi - a player Lendl dominated.

Even today, we see despite Roger's greatness, he struggles with a few players in Rafa and Murray.

    That's the beauty of tennis!

  • @sam7666 how come seeing someone strugling can be beauty? thats just beyond me :| are you people sadists or something? ...

  • @sam7666 Another player that Becker had tremendous trouble with was Brad Gilbert. Just as Nadal and Murray are Federer's kryptonite, and Djokovic is Nadal's, Gilbert was Becker's. Gilbert found his weakness, the junk ball, and exploited the hell out of it. He was a mental master. Just a tid - bit I wanted to add to your post.

  • Yes I remember this match, it was awesome tennis

  • I am not sure, what those critics of Lendl want to express by calling Ivan a "chicken".

It is maybe a bit disapoppointing that he only won 8 of 18 GS finals. Anyway, Lendl belongs to me to the Sampras-Federer-Borg category. And in contrast to Borg, he managed to adapt his play to the ever growing speed in. He started with a wooden racket, then layed for long this peculiar Kneissl-Adidas racket and then shiftet do Mizuno midsize.

Just compare the video of his Paris final vs Borg with this one.

  • I never think Ivan deserved to be considered pavid, but if he leads 10-5 vs Becker in GP, while Boris 5-1 in GS, is not becouse of legs and shots. Legs works even better in longer matches and tournaments. For example Ivan leads 15-7 vs Wilander, but Mats leads 3-2 in GS finals. Do you think Wilander had better shots?

  • I was a great fan of Lendl, but I agree with you. However, one must also consider that 3 out of 5 Becker's wins against Lendl come from the grass, where Becker was clearly advantaged (as far as I can remember, they never played on the court, where Lendl would have probably won 3-0).

  • @ulizinho no wonder he did not win more , look who he had to deal with : Borg , Connors , McEnroe , Wilander and then younger and upcoming Becker and Edberg and in the end a small known player by the name of Pete Sampras. Put Roger in the same mix of players and with my great admiration of him , he ends up with 5 to 6 slams.

  • @novola1972 absolutely right

  • @ulizinho 8 of 19

    Australian 83, 89 - 91

    French 81, 84-87

    Wimbleton 86-87

    US Open 82-89!

  • @ulizinho You can't criticize Bjorn Borg that he didn't adjust to the newer rackets since he retired in 1982 right at the beginning of the newer rackets, that's not his fault. And John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl adjusted to the rackets, so there's no reason to think Bjorn couldn't have adjusted Bjorn was one of the best of all time in Tennis.

  • @yasudab1

Hi Yasudab. You made a good point. It was more Borg´s mental state of exhaustion then his lack of tennis abilities. He did try a graphite racket in one of his comebacks and does play one now on the senior tour. However, we must pay credit to both Mac and Ivan who undoubtly did succeed in the transformation from wooden racket to composite racket.

  • @ulizinho He was a great player! I was a Becker fan, so he was always a villain to me, but he never seemed like a chicken.

  • @ulizinho Lendl was a GOD! He would make actual players into pieces!

  • @rafaelkafka

but not with that small adidas racket....

  • @ulizinho how knowledgeable! Good comment.

  • Lendl was the better athlete. Becker had better shots.

  • Lendl had better forehand and backhand. Becker had better volleys. From an athletic point of vew Ivan was faster but Boris was younger and with Becker's temperament Lendl would had been even more succesfull.

  • I would not say that Lendl had a better forehand, though he famous for it.

Becker was simply too heavy and lame.

IF he only had Lendl legs...

IF Lendl only had the aggressivensess of Becker...

They are like Ice and Fire.

  • @ulizinho Becker had a great forehand, but Lendl had the best. Becker's physical gifts were good for a net player, such as Lendl's for a baseliner (and Ivan was 32 while Boris 25!...). About temperament, i don't refer to aggresivensess, but to courage and self confidence. If only Ivan was ice (like Borg and Wilander) or fire (like Becker and Connors)!... They call him even "chicken"...

  • @matteodinenno Lendls groundstrokes were better in the sense they were reliable - Beckers forehand though was more powerful when it was on .

Lendl was also great clutch player but overall was not great at living the tennis life , coping with fame etc so in that sense far weaker than Lendl , and of course Lendl was far fitter so Id have to save lendl was overall the mentally stronger ( esp given how long he stayed at no 1 )

  • @kinkabala Lendl groundstrokes were better (in my opinion) technically. Backer had a terrific wrist both in terms of strength and touch, but Lendl forehand was more coordinated and smooth, had a better grip (in my opinion), an eastern, and Lendl was able to hit it more properly in neutral stance. Becker had a more natural and very effective blocked backhand, especially on the return to serve, but Lendl' backhand drive was simply perfect and unmatched in terms of speed and precision on the pass.

  • I LOVE LENDL
