This was a few years after he passed one of largest tax cuts ever, which were designed to put more money in more people's pockets to get the economy going again. It worked so he bumped taxes up a bit because people could afford to pay more by then. Those tax raises weren't passed during an economic crisis, and they weren't passed after passing an unconstitutional bill disguised as healthcare reform.

The fact of the matter is that we have a huge budget deficit, and we've had that for every administration for a long time (except Clinton). The money has to come from somewhere. The stock market hit it's highest levels since 2008 a couple of days ago, with Nasdaq hitting it's highest level since 2000. I'd say it's inaccurate to say the economy is not recovering. @navid500 Reagan raised taxes after the economy was back on track to help cut the defecit. This was a few years after he passed one of largest tax cuts ever, which were designed to put more money in more people's pockets to get the economy going again. It worked so he bumped taxes up a bit because people could afford to pay more by then. Those tax raises weren't passed during an economic crisis, and they weren't passed after passing an unconstitutional bill disguised as healthcare reform.
