I had Moblin operating system, but could not play MP3 files. I had to buy the codecs. What would be practical would be a software center as in Ubuntu. So you can re-install the missing codecs for free.
Moblin is a very good operating system. When it is mature more, I want it back on my netbook.
Or is there a possibility that costs nothing to play MP3 files?
@MetSaufenderThorson you have any other experience on linux? because it surprise me that someone that used a linux based OS wihtout searching on the net for alternative soft for playing audio/video files on that particular OS.
Yes, I'm running Meego for Netbooks off a 16GB SDHC card plugged into a USB adapter so the Samsung NC10 will boot to it, first, by simply changing the boot load sequence on startup. The card was made from the image copy as per the good instructions here:
/devices/netbook/installing-meego-your-netbook
Then you just change the bootup to include the USB flash before booting from hard disk. Meego runs great, what there is of it with no software yet. Chrome runs great.
@twinesdr You must do two things to make it boot. It will not boot from the SD card slot, only USB. Plug the SD card with the image on it into a USB SD card adapter. Then, you must open the bootup control by pressing F1 several times to get into the boot Eprom before Windows starts and change the bootup sequence to include the USB card BEFORE it goes to the hard drive to bootup Windows. It's in the BIOS, press F1 until you see the BIOS screens. It'll find Meego first after this.
@w4csc I did it on a USB thumb by win32diskimager. It seems like there are no way to boot from the SD card slot of the NC10 lol anyways, thanks for your suggestion.
"My friend has Acer with MeeGo and he wants to go on Windows but he can't somebody help :S"
If your friend wanted Windows he should have bought a system that came with Windows. Many new smartbooks and tablets are not designed to run Windows; It's a different market segment. Would you buy an iPad and then complain you can't run Windows on it? No, wait... you probably would... Windows users are that retarded...
@nikolaicholev considering MeeGo 1.0 hasn't been released yet he must have installed it on there himself, unless you are talking complete shit of course.
Meego hit 1.0 a couple of days ago. Acers don't COME with Meego. He either bought a used laptop with it or did it himself.
Call Acer, have them send you a "recovery disc" (essentially a Windows install disc) for the laptop model he has. It'll cost a few bucks for shipping and you'll need a USB DVD drive, but that's your best bet right now.
@Toffelielain yeah it would. but even maemo6 is still just maemo in branding not in technology same as moblin 2.3(?) both would still retain the technologies of their individual platform before the merger. we can only start to see a real moblin after the release of maemo6
@bigbrovar I think it will take time before you notice any radical change... And I think Meego is more an umbrella name for the combined project in general...
Looking forward to more previews! :) I am just praying that they will manage to transfer all the greatness that already lies within the Maemo project...
@sxpacks uh... not quite. It's extremely frowned upon to encourage people to download MeeGo at this stage, as it's still a developer code drop, with nothing but a terminal.
@subzerohackmaster Yes Meego is based on Linux. It's opensource and free to download. When your phone, Laptop and TV all run Meego, Many doors open :)

@sxpacks Where did you hear 3-4 seconds? I've seen it boot and it wasn't that fast. Are those projected numbers for the final release?

@minipcpro yes i've tried the moblin one ... it boots very fast ... the meego's gui is very similar to moblin

@minipcpro as of now those are projected boot times. Moblin boot time was aimed for 2 seconds :)
