  • It makes me sad decommissioning and watching ships get blown up in the water to use as artificial reefs. Hopefully, they never do it to the Kitty Hawk.

  • I worked night shift and during the day and sometimes I hungout on a skinny hanging catwalk under the angle deck and watched the dolphins. Great experience. I was an AQF-3 in VA-83 in charge of night shift.

  • When I was stationed in Newport in 02-06, we always had our Navy security boats on the water watching over her and Saratoga.

  • 89-91 i was on her last cruise..i was on P-AFT ENG #2 Aux eng room.

    Ive got more in this ship then you guys...

    my DAD was Gerald Farrier ABHC\

    (the one with the fire exextinguisher after the missle shot off)..

    he died when the bomb blew..

    the navy named the fire training center at norfolk va after him..

    may she sail on in history never to be forgoten

  • thank you for posting this video clip i was a damage control firefighter from 1990-1992 i gave blood, swet and tiers to that ship it kills me inside to know i will never be able to show my kids around her or to run through her decks and knee nockers again. thank you very much for the update and video

  • Loved being a part of the crew on the Forrestal. Sailed her last cruise to Southeast Asia and decommed her in Philly. Memories of a time I will never forget. RIP FID.

  • Thank you for the video. I cried when I heard the Forrestal was leaving Newport. Its sad that we couldn't get the money to make this a museum.
