  • By far my favorite acapella group of all time <3

  • I used to hate a capella until I heard SNC's music :)

  • By far my favorite collegiate acappella group!!

  • My choir is doing this next year because my director loves SNC and they inspired him to teach us this! :D

  • A great a cappella ensemble!

  • @CutieaySamaa345 lemmie tink aboot et!

  • @wayufilm That's Not Very Nice!!

  • I know these guys!

  • falalala falalala lala-christmas-lala-quanza-lala

    lol XD

  • where's JD lol...............

  • Haha this is soo cool but the Voca People are so much better !

  • @emmymae13 look up these guys in 1997 they were better

  • ควย

  • Lovee ITT

  • This had to be early in their career because they were really off at the beginning, which isn't Straight No Chaser standards.

  • @galadriel1320 I agree with welshman90. Using your hands doesn't make an acapella piece no longer acapella. Clapping and snapping is VERY common in acappella pieces. It doesn't make it any less acapella. It doesn't give them any notes to follow, and therefore can't be considered accompaniment.

  • Haha that's awesome!

  • This is HOT!

  • speechless...these guys are amazing.

  • good, but chance against Perpetuum Jazziles Africa :)

  • @welshman90 the perpetuum people aren't actually doing acapella, when they use their hands, it is no longer acapella, sorry, no comparison is possible, SNC is the best!

  • @galadriel1320 well if you say clapping doesn`t belong to acapella, snipping doesn't aswell, after the start its just singing, thats the good part ;)

  • No, blueraven166's got it right. While this is the same band name and the same university, this is not the group that we all know and love that is on tour.

  • who is that singing????? whats his name?????

  • I love it :)!

  • to any1 who doesnt know this or notice it, this isnt the original group that has a cd; these are the "desendents" (new guys/the a cappella group @ the university) of the original. otherwise, they wuldnt b sounding like this

  • @blueraven166 Actually this is them because they started at the Indiana University (:

  • LOl christmahannukwanzikah

  • amazing!! awesome song...

  • Definitely not the best performance of heard of them. The tempo is SUPER weird, the group is rushing but the soloist tends to drag. Then the high "its going to take a lot to drag me away from you" is out of tune and balance. Honestly it seems they fell into the "lets have fun... but we're gonna forget about our musicality" trap that so many a'cappella This group can and has done far better. Just my opinion.

  • Hoorah

  • Extremely talented musicians. THIS is music.

  • pretty snazy

  • Excellent!

  • <33333

  • Men of the Mill's take on this is much better. And Men of the Mill is a high school group xD

  • I have christmas down in africa

  • I'm a HUGE fan. I've downloaded everything (MP3s) of their's available. Amazon has a big selection of their stuff.

  • i love how the high voice is the black guy! omg amazing!

  • Happy Christmahaunaquanzaka! This song, and this group are absolutely amazing. I couldn't think of a group I'd rather sing in.

  • as much as I dislike UNC ive gotta say that I like the clef hangers arrangement better...

  • firs one i've seen with a good singer lol

  • Wow...

  • music is the common language of the world

  • just did this song in my high school, only first tenor there, rocked all the high notes! awsome song guys!

  • Very cool! I sang in choirs all through high school. Out here in the big world, I notice that vocalists always seems to find each other, whether it's in the subway in NYC or on a street corner in Mexico City. It's such a cool thing! A'capella singing HAS ALWAYS BEEN UNPLUGGED, YO!

  • that's a seriously talented tenor in there....acapella needs you dude!

    cheers

  • I love the singer's style and voice, but I think it doesn't give the 80's rock touch that I love so much about the song, but still, I believe he made that song his and sang it his way, and that was works even better ^ ^

Also the other guy is funny, you know who I'm talking about lol

  • OMFG THESE R TOO COOL!

  • I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!

  • you are great ... You must look "Audiofeels" from poland

  • dam that is just outstandingly amazingly phenominal!

  • Love you guys...just heard of you this year, and I absolutely to hear you sing...tight harmony is great. Thanks for sharing your talents...I LOVE your Christmas CD...Merry Christmas!

  • watch?v=t4kVdE0f7aE

  • hey we saw you guys at the Vet Day dinner in Indianapolis you guys were awesome

  • Unless you're some big shot and know everything about music, i don't think you should be criticizing these guys. I love music, and these guys are amazing. I'd like to see some of you average joes do better x]

  • You its always the non talented poeple who critisize. So dont let some no talent moron who clearly knows nothing about music get to you.

    BTW these guys are awsome.

  • @musicluv248 Well, maybe not me but UNC CleftHangers?

  • first group who sounds on tune!

  • How many members are in the band?

  • watch the credits

  • 10 members, all holding different parts,

  • count them

  • 10 i think

  • Band? What band? It's a capella, so the band is exactly 0.

  • i LOVE the bass line on this song! Can't find it on their website anymore... does anyone know why?

  • You can still hear it on their Myspace page.

  • Awesome

  • It's good for what it is. The lead is a bit out of tune.

I dunno. Just doesn't have the same feeling as the original. Not to say that it's not good. It's...hm. I've seen better from Straight No Chaser.

  • Que desafinados!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful, but i still like the original group is better no necessarily because of pure vocal talent or sound but they put their SOULS into it, they didnt just sing it they SANG IT if you know what i mean but great job :)

  • The original group does a hilarious twelves day of christmas song using this beat.

  • i know its awesome!

  • what are you talking about?! they did fantastic

  • christmas and a kwanzika lol

  • again... WOW!!!!

  • Im gonna say The original group did this song better. not tkaing away from it cause its still good. the high parts are not as good in this version

  • Well, of course they did it better, it's they created it...

  • we're singing this at our school

  • the chorus part= god like

  • how many pieces can an acapella group memorize at one time? in your first semester of existence, how many pieces should your group have?

  • normal length pieces about 7

  • Falsetto is like a extremely high guy voice where he has to change from his orginal singing range to sing a higher note or phrase the falsetto starts at 1:03 and u will know what it is

  • great falsetto

  • Not bad, but Altra Volta's version blows it out of the water.

  • Got a link?

  • Altra volta's version is way too nasally. It's just kind fo annoying.

  • ...and the lead is a bit out of tune the first verse of that Altra Volta vid.

  • You have to look for the 2nd version: Africa of the UNC Clefhangers.

  • after listeing to unc and snc versions of Africa many times... I still think SNC's version is more enjoyable. I think it might have to do with their sound. It's a much fuller sound, maybe because they all have their own mics??? I also think the SNC soloist has a better sound than UNC's. UNC might put on a better live performance though... I just discovered both groups recently.

  • As a true audiophile, Music Major and sound engineer, I disagree with you. Both solists are about the same in talent, But this version DOES NOT over all, sound better as far as quality of pitch. As a sound engineer it sounds better because as you mentioned, each member has thier own microphone so it is fuller as you say. BUT as far as the groups individual members voices as a whole, UNC has them beat! AND with the movements its hands down!

  • did he mention he was a sound engineer?

  • wait, he IS? i never would have guessed that! astonishing!

  • Hear that, guys?

People can be experts, over the internet. This guy sounds legit.

  • does any of that really matter..

and im sure george clooney has better things to do than search you tube videos

  • your a douche bag they sound good and theres no gay excuse

  • i think you guys are awesome!!

  • my music teachers went to school with these guys she said

  • lol soloist is the guy who didnt wanna sing at the mint chip , hes good , gj fellas

  • huh?

  • UNC Clef Hanger's rendition of the song" Africa" is, at this moment, the best out there on you tube.

  • well, They are at least better than these guys. I haven't watched any others.

  • The UNC Clef Hanger's rendition is definatly the best on You Tube.

  • UNC Clef Hangers do this so much Better

  • AGREED!

  • COMPLETELY AGREE!

Nothing against SNC, they just didn't have the right guy to do the high part of the chorus, b/c doing it in falsetto is lame and doesn't sound as good.

  • Agreed!!

  • agreed

  • The recorded version is much better, in fact nearly perfect..

  • Theoretically, you were excellent. The notes were all in tune and you stayed together. However, there was no energy or stage presence. It would be so much better if you guys acted like you enjoyed doing this.

  • weak compared to clefhangers

  • The thing with Vocal Jazz groups that change members year by year, is difficult to keep consistency. I still commend them for performing this song, it is so much fun! Congrats!

  • A shadow of the original guys.

  • Audiofeels are best

  • I heart Holland Nightenhelser! Such a cutie!!

  • agreed its not their best effort... but the unbelievably shitty sound quality didn't help anything.

  • i agree average really

  • i agree. i love Straight No Chaser but i think the 1998 group was better

  • I love this song!!! This guys rock!

  • Great, I love it

  • the 12 Days guys are the original group. They were in 1996 or so. This performance was in 2007 by current members of the a cappella group at IU. I can't believe anyone said "the black guy let himself go.." they are DIFFERENT guys. they don't look anything alike. wtf is wrong with you??

  • These arent the same guys in the 12 days Video! or are they?

  • It might not be the same guys, but it certainly is the same group.

  • you should see their 12 days

  • 1996 was there best the black guy let himself go

  • they are better in collage and all the videos mikado95 plus the black guy let himself go!!! i used to luv them

  • its a completely different group

  • Its kind of hard for these guys to live up to the freaks of college acapella the 1st snc i mean come on for a college group these guys are pretty good.

  • T, you're absolutely right.

  • I personally think you guys did an amazing job at this song... I would love to hear you do a version of "Rosanna" though (I was actually named after that song) I think it would sound really good acapella!

  • The soloist is really good. But the when they get to the chorus it seems like they all just kinda lose energy.

  • Can you guys please come to Montreal Canada??????

  • Pretty cool. Almost too much falsetto near the end, but pretty cool nonetheless.

  • wow, I think I totally love you guys...past and present incarnations. :)

  • the chorus of this song is awesome, you gys are sickkkk

  • Pretty good, but not as good as the guys in Straight No Chaser in 1998.

  • It's very good it's juz not as stable and harmonious as the 1st one...

But I believe u guys can smoothen ur melody with more practice and experience.

  • okay but needs more energy. tryin moving the bodies together so people could get into it more. goin for clef hangers on this

  • amazing, you cant really compare the original to this group obviously because they are different groups but its too bad that this group came second they just have alot to live up to i mean you guys are amazing but the original group is just WOW!!! they are on a completely new lvl of amazing, even better then most professional groups ive heard

  • you should come to Denver Colorado...or better yet Berthoud Colorado!

  • Bring these guys to Seattle!!!!!

  • It's good... Slow down in my opinion. It's better at its original tempo. Even though the refrain is really high it's still lacking in this version, all the sound just disappears.

  • If you don't think about the original SNC, this group would be considered very good, if not great. Yes, they have a few tuning issues and maybe a little bit of a timing issue in spots, but they are VERY good.

  • the problem is that they only have better than average singers. and lack a few exceptional ones such as jerome back in the original group. its obvious when the tenors have to go and octave higher the spirit of the song is not there.

  • Yes, they are better than average singers but they are always going to be different than the orignal group. You can't expect them to be the same. This group is still amazing. The tenors are brilliantly capturing "the spirit of the song". It is suppose to be high. Have you heard Toto perform this song?

  • they're still awesome..but...i duno its kinda lacking spunk..that sparkle..im not saying they're bad cuz obviously they can sing better than a lot of ppl..including me..but..i duno...its different

  • The original Straight No Chaser is coming back for the IU Homecoming 2008.

  • they are amazing but the original SNC was the best it will ever be

  • The lead is good, but the high tenors are a little out of tune.

  • One of the best a capella versions out there,

i love the voice of the solo singer.

  • this is amazing

  • i disagree all the vids i have seen of clef hangers of africa arnt that great u cant hear the soloist the backgroung singersa are drowning out the soloist.

  • they're real good but i still think the first SNC in 1998 was the best

  • Amazing, this is so smoothing.

  • The first guy that sings looks like Jared from Subway. Great voice though!

  • he is probably taking care of the high tenor parts....this group isnt bout one person its about working together to make an awesome blend...i like the bass tho cause im a bass myself and i find myself singing the bass part in all these song lmao

  • bass is fun

but i like some of the higher parts sometimes...

  • i love the high parts.

im a tenor and i love it.

but bass is pretty sick too.

  • yupps.

im lik in the middle though, cause its hard to reach some of the higher tenor parts.

  • Corey (black guy) had the most solos by far in the group the past few years before he graduated this past year, just an fyi syder7...

we just have posted some videos that happen to have other soloists

  • ZenTaurus; you say the word; that is exactly what these versions are about; I'm still waiting for some fool who complains about the missing orchestra in a close harmony piece :-S
